To the second, up to a point, that's the why of <x> century old litch. :P You've had centuries to make complicated defense no one can break in a single day (or month). Then live on long enough to do whatever it is you're really obsessed over undisturbed.

I sat down and made a idea for a spear once to setup a ward. It's a engraved ceremonial brontium spear. Set up for one specific spell.

    +1 rod type item
+1 order for being AA && being a weapon
+1 for copper being a theyreus path material
+1 for being a thyreus hunting weapon
    ...

'If she uses one ritual item in many ways, each individual use counts as one Yantra for this limit' - p. 119 How do you get four or five yatra to be reused enough to count to 10-20? Getting up to 10 isn't hard if you've got time to burn. Beyond that? I don't know. They've got all the time int the world to find or make just the right yantra...

Point, but wrong type of redundancy. This is just brute force mass or simple mundane non-magic misdirection. You hide things in ways that make people think they've found all there is to find or create a network so massive it's impossible...

Your a time mage. Ideas for protecting the spell include:

    1) Creating a powerful imbued item other would covert and want to protect or horde. Laying your lichdom spell(s) in it. Hiding the spell and it's connection to you with not quite archmage levels of trickery and potency. Releasing the spell. Then donating it to some third party.

    2) Pull a Voldemort. Creating a runed item to maintain your litchdom. Make it practically invulnerable. Use your magic to find a hiding place no one can find or get into without spending a whole chronicle on purely doing that. Hide the item...

On the subject of dispelling, it's worth pointing out anyone that does get ejected from the past back to the present probably has a setup for it. If not the first time definitely the second or third. In the form of some kind of super sanctuary they spend months on making in the form +10-20 dice worth of reusable yatra or has a dozen or so sleepwalker friends or family they cast the spell on to run concurrently. So even if the spell on them gets bestest, the dozen or so others on friends (who they know go undetected from past to present by this point) just seamlessly pickup the slack without interruption....

That train of thought mind end with: "Hey, I'm not bored anymore!"

Who's to say history isn't being rewritten all the time by mages great and small, for better or worse, for good or evil, but we're all changed with it. So things have 'always been that way'.

  • I image any of the mage organizations have ways to make clean breaks from old lives just as a function of keeping their secrets. It wouldn't do for someone's old circles trying pull them back into old messes ,getting other mages splattered with criminal investigations, or start making trouble because of divided loyalties.

All that new knowledge doesn't make one suddenly more saint or sinner. It just gives them a lot of new tools and a new outlook. I think the question you should ask is does a new mage, with all they just learned, want their old life or not?

    If they do,...

  • You mind run into a problem with the rank limit if you get too ambitious. The Familar binding as written has a rank limit of 2, the spell just doesn't hold anything beyond that. Rank 2 stuff isn't one dimensional, but it is my understanding they're not the sharpest tool in the tool box either.

I wince at that from both side. "Doing something for fun" is the entire point of playing a game. If your not doing it for fun, what's the point of playing? Fun should absolutely be the driving principle.

On the other side: I've had or played with people that would come to the game -as a rule not a exception- and use it as their personal playground or power trip, not understand why everyone else could not just get with their program, and had zero or little concept of how to socialize in a social game.

I've also had GMs that were just as bad.

  • On the bright side it could throw attackers in that your rolling prime in a clash of will instead of mind, and they have access to prime to remove the spell. Which if your prime focused fighting a might focused mage that could be nice. Wards and Signs doesn't protect you so much as make them work harder, once they juice a spell to over come the extra withstand they're unopposed.

The Prime 1 spell Pierce Deception could work defensively as a cure (not preventative). Your mind would still be changed, but if it was changed in some untrue way Pierce Deception would instantly (or with...

I'd think out of sight and out of mind doesn't actually help in garbage's case. It's just out of sight, not actually gone, and liable to anger some very dangerous neighbors when you dump anything on their well manicured (from their point of view) front lawn. I know if you did that in the shadow you'd end up either some angry spirits (of any kind for junking the resonances they feed on) or some spirits of garbage that wanted to create more even more garbage in the material world.

The extra arcana is clever to reverse or shield against something. I think Death (the arcana) alone is...

I suppose you could go that route. I'd normally reserve 8-again for the work of a gifted master that had spent decades practicing their craft. I was thinking perfectly mundane things "cheated" their way around normal limits to the point of even mildly well put together things became extraordinary.

    +5 & 8-again works though I suppose.

    The Horseless Carriage Mark III

As one might know or expect, the 'horseless carriage' was something of a turnkey invention in the 1800s ,or a about three decades earlier, saw the first steam powered vehicles rolling their way into existence. Though only recognized as anything referred to as a 'car' in modern time in that it had wheels and moved when you turned it on. As one might know or expect this was something of a spectacle to anyone that saw one for the first time. Awakened were not immune to this, and if anything forces everywhere saw familiar concepts in how it worked. Saying...

    Maye something sideways to that?

Maybe steam driven cars that have perfect energy efficiency, zero friction surfaces, and weights barely enough for gravity to hold it to the ground. It may look like steampunk's dream out of the Victorian Era, but out runs and preforms anything any car maker was even thinking of making.

Maybe hand the perfectly conductive perfected copper to a CPU chip manufacturer and watch them babble with glee as they make smart phone that out preforms anything for the next fifty years, and anything less then a super computer for the next century!...

  • Ah. Space is for getting blood from point A to point B at range, Something Life can't do easily, and is used to specifically target blood. It's also part of a theme, Tamer of Blood likely has Space+Life just being a Tamer of Blood. You could certainty throw in prime's 'As Above, So Below' or something else with it. Also you are correct you don't need the spell for any of those yantra bonuses. I might it with some 'Add Prime 2' now that you point it out...

    Thanks for pointing that out!

As a example of the two themes I had in mind: Bloodhunter ,a tamer of blood, is in the...

If straight up murder is your goal and you have the ability to make or unmake things? You can bypass withstand in another way...

Death - Rot the ground under them into dust or mush by 'making' death. Then unmake death to seal it over them and entomb them.

Fate - Ever seen the movie 'Final Destination'? Just have to tilt your target to the environment rather then someone specifically.

Forces - Unmake the heat in the air, and flash freeze it into solid ice. You don't even have to go to absolute zero. Inverting that to incinerate from the inside out with heated...

  • Write down all the details, put in a vaguely threaten event or visual, maybe foreshadow a little, and then do absolutely nothing. It's a time based paradox, have it unstuck in time. Make a miniboss. It doesn't have to be a abyssal entity. It could be a lost hero trailing a abyssal taint or villain a little bit crazy everyone thought was dead but jumped in a rift in time -the players' 6+ dice paradox- to reappear later.

Be on the look for a place in the future -or when scrying the past- the slip the miniboss in, have in wink, and try to run away.

    -OR-

    Every...

Ok, Not exactly soulless... There are ghosts in the room...

    Ruin

Sometimes called 'The Ender of Kings' or 'The Last Word'. It is a six foot long jet black metallic spear. Inscribed on one side of it's blade is the rune for 'fools' and on the other 'end'. The runes giving it it's last nickname of 'The End of Fools'. Written along one side of the spear is a unknown language translating in high speech to 'None may declare them selves just'. On the reverse in miniature is a rote combining the death spell Devour The Slain and the matter spell Nigredo and Albedo. The pure iron...

I also used combat for quick simplicity. Normally I'm a believer in letting someone be clever or sneaky and front load things, but like you said the system can be gamed. Maybe answer "That is what ritual casting is. This is a use it now or loose it thing. You can't get traction on anything else. The Lie hates the supernatural and breaks any thing else up. War and combat is unique for it's closeness to the human condition."

That has it's own loopholes. In general if someone wants to rule lawyer or power game, spitting rules or lore out at them just excites. As a plan B there...

Paradox increases after each risk of paradox I believe. That was the seed idea. I may not have been clear.

If you want to make it team based your going to have to find some way to divide the teams, location, themes, path, cabals, or something else without messy book keeping. Otherwise as soon as one mage start's building progress, the next could reset it back down to zero before a round is even over....
