  • Maxing out is also able to add a dot in Technique to get a new power at a pretty significant level for a short time. It is a different way of stretching yourself than just a dot or two in a power. Both are likely eventually necessary for leveling up the powers you want.

  • Timecrafter if you want to take an item with you via teleport, it needs to be attuned. Impose would only teleport the object.

Eternl Knight I do agree about the poking holes thing, not really my intention, but I do that sometimes. Was mostly trying to argue that a slightly more generic tag may be a good idea. I recognize that wind is a bit strange for Quantum Aura at first, but I would think of it as a retaliatory wind punch or something like that. If you are a Elemental focused nova, generally effecting wind, Quantum Aura is still a good option for both flavor and utility.

  • Yes, but fire actually spreads and keeps burning given fuel and oxygen etc. I can easily see the argument for an Acid related attack, but what about an electrical attack, and how about a straight wind attack. It is hard to justify that it lingers and continues to electrify (or wind?) a subject. I agree that it should work the same, but if you take away that bit of flavor some are hard to explain.

Also, Incendiary explicitly can ignite flammable materials, again, this is easy for Acid, but can get tricky for some others....

  • I agree that the Armor example is pure cheese!

Most of the function pretty well at low-mid power level, however, sometimes things break down when you get to high power levels, that is why I like to come up with extreme examples to see how it would function.

I would allow the armor cheese, but I would make it very difficult to pull off, adding complications (to symbolize touching the armor rather than the person), and if the complications are not bought off, it will effect the person, and if the armor fully encompasses the person, I would agree with your ruling that it...

  • I think Gambit is better described by Quantum Attack, no question about that from me.

I also believe that Impose does allow for imposing onto inanimate objects. However, I agree that bestow cannot/is useless if you do (it needs to be activated by whatever it was bestowed to). That is where some of the fun comes in.

For Quantum Aura, it doesn't have to be something thrown, that is just an option to get the Aura some range. However, I do like the idea of extremely deadly Bouncy Balls rocketing around the room taking out random mooks.I actually think that it would...

  • However, the opponent still does get to resist. As Mateus was saying it seems like for indirect damage the damage rating is effectively the scale. It is more Quantum point efficient than Quantum Attack, but you could also make Quantum attack a Maintenance power with 2 Duration tags.

    1. you do have to beat the defense
    2. it is then resisted by a Stamina + Resolve roll
    3. Appropriate protective gear automatically decreases effectiveness by 4! There is also some potential debate as to the effectiveness of the Environmental (1) tag or Adaptation, but Environmental (2) certainly...

  • I would not say that it is way more powerful, I would say it may be on par if that. It only becomes way more powerful if you are successfully stacking that and a high powered/scale attack (here's looking at you Mega-Might/Quantum Attack)

  • I both agree and disagree with you. My point is that regardless who initiates the touching, the touching happens, therefore RAW it would impact a touchee.

I agree that if it was supposed to add to melee attacks it should have been stated. I think that this is a loophole/oversight, but as far as I can tell they do (although it could easily be argued that if they are using a weapon, it does not apply as only the weapon would make contact. So this would limit it to the specific case of unarmed/powered/natural weapons (claws)/grapples, not all melee attacks.

    It is also important...

  • I get that the Iron Fist is potentially better captured by a Quantum attack, but from my understanding his "Fist" is not instantaneous. Which is why I suggested this as an alternative. Ideally, I think it would probably be a Quantum Attack with the Duration (concentration) tag (Pay Quantum point cost once and use as long as you are concentrating, the effect of the attack is still instantaneous).

As for Florin's point, I have to disagree. Quantum Attack is stated as Indirect Contact Damage (I read this to mean 2 things 1. it is not an environmental effect and 2. the "toucher"...

  • Now I have another question on Quantum Aura. Is it effectively a supercharging of melee attacks? This is quite interesting and could be super devastating. I like to look at the more extreme cases for my examples so imagine this. A nova with Quantum 5, Quantum Aura 5 and Quantum Attack (Melee Attack) 5. If they use their Quantum Attack (which has scale and interacts with Armor), it seems that the target would also be impacted by the Quantum Aura (5 indirect damage)! That seems like a combination that can flatten all but the most resilient foes in short order.

    It is also possible to...

  • Florin, you mentioned Adaptation as being a defense against Quantum Aura. I don't think that is actually the case as Adaptation specifically protects against indirect damage with the "environmental tag". I have not found the "Environmental tag" for indirect damage, but while I think that it would protect against Environmental anima as that creates an effect on the environment, I don't think it works on Quantum Aura because that does not really alter the environment. Basically, Adaptation would require the nova to be exposed to an environment in order to function. Just touching...

  • The 0-point option is from Aeon (it is for a single threat). The one point option to me seems to apply armor to any indirect damage with continuous (minutes) or less. As a side note, not really sure where Quantum Aura would fall here as it is only on contact....but it may be considered continuous (rounds), but I could also see the argument for continuous (Minutes), maybe it also depends how much or how frequently the one in question is exposed (if they only hit the Quantum Aura once per minute, their Environmental 1 tag works, any more than that it is overloaded and doesn't work). and then Environmental...

  • Yeah, but at the damage rating is equal to Quantum Aura dots, so at Quantum Aura 5, between successes on the Stamina+Resolve roll and a 2-3 points of soft armor, even armor with no scale could easily negate the damage from a 5 dot Quantum power. With even one additional level of scale (scale 2) it becomes almost a sure thing.

  • OK, let me ask a related question then.

Quantum Aura, how exactly does that work? The way that I read it is that it would work much like Environmental Anima in terms of dealing damage. Is that the case? Neither of them scale, but if my reading is right they would bypass "most" armor/defenses (unless it has the Environmental Tag). So without armor/power with an Environmental tag it would deal Quantum Aura damage (- whatever is resisted by a Stamina+Resolve Roll)? This could be very powerful! However, when confronted with an armor/power with the Environmental tag, it would...

  • I agree that Attacking should be on average better than defending, but that the mechanic for "dodging" doesn't scale, or really seem to work for that function is my problem. Toughness or Quantum Field do scale and are a much better choice if a nova actually wants protection. The fact that there is scaling defense but only in absorbing, not dodging seems strange and makes me think that I miss something.

Speaking of absorbing, Absorption is a pretty cool power, but even that doesn't scale. It can still be really useful, but the main use I see for it is in replenishing Quantum...

  • It doesn't really matter though right, because there is not a separate "hit" and "damage" mechanic, you succeed on the roll, you then get your enhancements to your successes to purchase whatever is happening.

This is where my problem with Defense Mega-Edge and Quantum Deflection come in. If there is pretty much any scale, they quickly become useless (There is still the chance that they may allow the attack to be avoided by like diving behind a wall or something, but absent that, they seem pretty useless).

Mateus, you can easily have an entangling (or...

  • Aberrant: Defense and Quantum Deflection?

    Hi All,

Maybe I am missing something and perhaps you can help. In Aberrant, is there any real usefulness to Defense Mega-Edge or Quantum Deflection Power?

Defense Mega-Edge adds quite a bit to (potentially) to your Defense (pool). This can be helpful, but seems like nothing compared to the Scale that would be applicable to even moderately high quantum powers. Probably, still useful against baselines though. I can see a high Quantum nova taking one dot of this, but that is the only real use that I am currently seeing.

    Quantum Deflection seems infinitely worse,...
