  • On the surface that seems an okay fix, except you'd need to buy your way to 8th-9th generation (4-5 dots worth of starting advantages) before that would make your BP any different to someone who just stuck with the 13th you can start with. As monteparnas points out that brings over most of the issues with the older design intact.

I'm increasingly inclined to pick a generation and age bracket is the way forwards, then find some maths the roughly works to let players buy additional BP at character creation....

  • Few disciplines will let you just bypass motion sensors, but then how many businesses that you know of have motion sensors fitted? The common measures are cameras and night-watchmen both of which can be overcome by a user of obfuscate.

This presumes that the Auspex user:
    1) Is actively using their Auspex.
    2) Can draw a direct line of sight to the Obfuscate user.
    3) Beats the Obfuscate user in the contest to detect them.

I think you forget just how many animals there are in a city, and a canny Kindred can find plenty of ways to get them...

If the sole intent is to make canon-fodder why bother with paths at all? Paths take time to teach and instill even in their new simplified forms. Why not just rely on low humanity Sabbat like in revised?

As Monteparnas said, this seems like an instance where the designers had an intent, then looked at how to retroactively justify that in the setting. Rather than looking at how things may change from the perspective of characters in the setting, then adjusting elements of the world to suit the new circumstances....

If I were to guess why these paths are now forsaken, it has very little to do with the evolution of the Sabbat and what their elders think, and more to do with how the designers wanted to portray the Sabbat. Look at the other paths included in the V5 portrayal of the Sabbat, they've all been recast in their most violent, aggressive, and simplified forms. (E.g. all the scholarship, respecting other worthy Cainites has been stripped from the Path of Caine; Path of Cathari has none of the older religious overtones to it and is now nothing but a path of hedonism, etc.)

    This same change...

  • Generation/Blood Potency as an Advantage

TL;DR - How would you look at implementing generation/blood potency as a background that can be bought during character creation in V5.

In previous editions, particularly V20 generation was something you could take during character creation. This meant that player characters could have a generation ranging anywhere from 8th-16th generation using backgrounds and flaws. Amongst veteran players, generation as a background became infamous as the background taken by power-gamers, usually to the maximum 5-dots allowing for an 8th generation character.

    In no small part, the...

  • I'm usually the ST rather than a player so it varies a little.

When I'm playing I'd probably say:
    1) Interacting with touchstones: 0-5%, most of the games I'm in are short one-shots that involve a lot of international travel, making it hard to spend a lot of time with touchstones. It doesn't help that the chronicles tend to be quite short, so there isn't really a lot of time for players to have long scenes by themselves.

    2) Performing Detective Work: 50%, most of the games I get to play in I like running investigators of various stripes. It also tends to suit the...

  • In terms of signature characters, I think I've only ever used Lucita and Beckett.

I have to admit as Englishman who studied history & classics I've got a soft-spot for the Gangrel Archaeologist and chronicler. Likewise, the Sabbat are my favourite sect and the Lasombra my favourite clan, so it's nice to have Lucita crop-up from time to time.

I do use plenty of the canon NPC's where appropriate. My London chronicle featured plenty of characters: Mithras, Lady Scarlett, Valerius, Stephen Lenoir, etc.

  • My first character was a Ventrue mob boss in V20 that I called Owen Marks. We were playing in Staines/London in the 1960's so I gave him a very Kray sort of vibe. He ran a weapon/drug smuggling enterprise out of a pub and nearby warehouse. I focussed him on Dominate and Presence and he worked as the face of the coterie. (Coterie-mates included a Toreador surgeon turned pianist with a stalker for a sire; a half-feral Gangrel that wighted before the end of the chronicle; and a scheming Tremere that got us into gang-war with a bunch of Settites.)

He had a few issues mostly related to...
