I know it's not exactly an Exalted thing, but a classic trope of the Eastern mythology is the 'monster/god/entity' sealed inside a character, and I was thinking how to best rule that.

I think something on the line of an Artifact is the easiest solution, using the Evocations as the powers granted by the entity, even if an Artifact that's internal to the character can be a little overpowered since it can't be removed... but apparently shadow tattoo can have Evocations, and you can't really remove a tattoo from someone. Considering that this artifact is not actually doing anything aside...

Well, I suppose it all depends on how much optimization you think it's fair for someone that's not a dedicated fighter. Sure, maybe the Lunar Sun Wukong can start with Dex 5 Brawl/Melee/Martial Arts 5 (but probably 3 because I'm a sucker for putting all Bonus point on Attributes for starting Lunars), because he's supposed to be a legendary fighter and all, but this guy is not supposed to be that good from the start. He can become a legendary fighter later.

After all, this Manwha is actually a sequel of the original Journey, so it makes sense that he's not on par with the devilish...

I see. Mmmm... I'm not sure I can squeeze all the necessary Caste/Favoured skills there. This version is also a decent fighter... he needs at least some Brawl, Martial Arts and Dodge/Resistance to be decent in fights.

Mmmm... maybe it's possible to not make Brawl Favored? I don't remember the various costs right away, but considering Solar Experience, maybe it's doable to not giving him Favoured combat skills? He can start with Dexterity 3 and Brawl/Martial Arts 3 and go from there. Considering the Excellency, it shouldn't be too difficult to match most critters in combat, considering...

Ah, ok. So useful for a diplomat in a foreign court, not as much for one travelling around....

First thing: thank you for your answer.

Second: since I'm not very good at remembering what Charms actually do, do Socialize is useful for a diplomat character, or it's overshadowed by Presence....

Thought excercise. Maybe I'll use him if I find a game, but right now I don't really have a group to play with....

    Journey to the West

    Hello.

With the arrival of Fangs at the Gate, I decided to do a little mental stretch and see if I could recreate the group from Journey to the West (not the original, one I saw in a manwha) as Exalted.

Most of the cast (excluded the horse) can be written as Lunar pretty easily. With a little stretch of the imagination, you can also give everyone else a different Caste without duplicates. Sun Wukong can be a Changing Moon (because it's a trickster, even if his martial power is what usually is noticed more), Pigsy can be a Full Moon (because... he's doesn't really do...

  • Just for curiosity, how would you play a Lunar in a self-discovery of themselves? How much time do you think it's realistic for a Lunar to stay in a determinate gender before she understands what's the right one?

I mean, considering that changing gender is so easy for them, the process doesn't look like it would require a lot of time, to begin with. Unless, of course, the Lunar is very, very confused, and doesn't have a set gender by default, but in that case there nothing changes from the text.

Also, what stops a Lunar to try and change her gender identity even with...

  • Yes, Lunars are extremely good to represent trans people. But you based your complaint on the fact that Lunars can't struggle with self-discovery because they are changed into their ideal body when the Exalt. How can they struggle like a real person when they can change their gender with a thought -and a Charm, of course-? Maybe I'm just ignorant on how trans people live this particular problem, but I would think that the struggle normal trans people experience is in not small part dictated by the fact that changing gender is not trivial at all. You can't just wake up one day and say 'no, I feel...

  • Yeah. Honestly, I don't see that much satisfaction in using the Lunars to explore those themes, because they can casually change their apparence as much as they want. You can't get a realistic experience while interpreting something that consider things like gender and apparence at best something that can be changed depending on the situation, and at worst something completely irrelevant to their personality....

replied to How complicated should Infernals be?
Premise: I never played Infernals, I started with 3E and I know the still not published splats only by osmosis and the description given until now.

I think -and that's only my personal preference, but I think it fits the Infernal pretty well- that at least some part of the characterization of the Infernals should be... Solar, but weird. Sorcerously weird. They are, after all, Exalted by the corruption of a Solar Exaltation by the infernal powers of the creators of the world... creators of the world that, by what I gathered, are the original owner of what's called 'Solar Sorcery'....

I have to say, having the Solar being the most important Exalted during the First Age, and the decline of Creation since their disappearance, being measured in 'how many DB you can defeat at the same time' is the most boring thing you can do.

Personal combat is the least meaningful way the Solar Host could possibly have to influence Creation as a whole. Bureaucracy, law, crafting, sorcery, directing troops in war are all methods that make them much bigger than any other Host.

So, I welcome the flattening of the curve. Solars don't need bigger pools. What they need is...
