  • Personally, I really like the idea of gathering sorcerous motes to cast spells, but just for big, powerful spells. For example, I don't dislike staining one round if it means that I can cast a Flight of the Brillant Raptor and nuke a building, but that sound like a final move. For blasting during combat, Elemental Bolt would be my first choice....

  • Yes, but the draw didn't really make me think of someone who stand in the middle of a fight and dodge everything before unleashing the Obsidian Butterflies. He seem more like someone who charge in the middle of the fight and start throwing lightining left and right while his centaur body claw everything that come too close.

Of course, is Jen who have to decide which fighting style is better. But for a sorcerer that want to blas every turn, an invocation or some variant of The Burning Name is better than normal spells....

  • Blasting Wizard work better with Evocation in my opinion. Damaging spell tend to be big, flashy decisive attacks. You need to gain initiative in some way and if your Lunar main method of fighting is throwing lighting at people, an evocation that let you do that while a spell don't.

That said, there is an example of something like that that's not an evocation. The Burning Name is a 2 dot Merit that grant you a Light Mundane Weapon in the form of a flame attack using Intelligence + Occult. That's not a spell so the sorcery bonuses of the No Moon are not that juicy and you can being...

  • Or a particular Sorcery initiation, granting Evocation using paper talismas, including drawing mistic arrays (it's pretty common to create barriers with talismans in fiction). Summoning Servants could still be an evocation that let you instantly materialize at your side a demon/elemental that you binded as usual.

I have nothing on the Tsunami, but that could be a spell instead of an Evocation....

Well, because thanks to Chimera Soul Expression, his Spirit Shape is more a fuckhuge dragon than a Tyrant Lizard. And, in general, dragons and giant murder lizard tend to be noticable and he's not a No Moon fighter.

Of course, I posted the complete sheet so if you want to use it as benchmark for a not.combat focused Lunar you can, and of course using the most powerful spirit shape possible is a given in a white room scenarion, but I doubt that in a normal game he's going to go full T-rex on the enemy unless he has no choice....

Well, I promised I would have found time to write the Lunar and here I am. I present you Walker-of-the-Sky, a Castless Lunar Jack-of-All-Trade that do... well, he do a lot of things. A little social, a little combat, a lot of mental stuff. The distribution is Physical Tertiary, Mental Primary and Social Secondary. If I'm ever going to play this guy, I'll probably remain Castless until I have brought some Attributes higher (at least Str 3 and Per 4) before going Changing Moon.

    Here the stats.

Attributes: Str 2 Dex 4 (favored) Sta 4 / Wits 5 (Favored), Perception 3, Intelligence
    ...

I'm trying to find the time to write down a character generation Lunar and see how good it actually is in combat. I'm thinking at a really "jack-of-all-trade" Lunar, something like a Castless (or Changing Moon) with physical tertiary and the only investiment in combat being the two charms necessary to have the Strenght and Stamina excellency. And maybe a little Heart Blood for some other forms aside her Spirit Shape.

The moment I have write down the combat stats, who want to test it against a QC Dragonblood? I know it seems like a mismatch, but we are talking about a lunar...

Oh, I missed that one. Yeah, it limit a little the first option I proposed.

Speaking of the limitation of Aura, I don't think it's necessarly a bad thing either, but I prefer to add mechanics then remove them. So, I'll prefer for the DB to have the ability to off-set the problem instead of just giving a blank all-element Aura mechanics. In that way, sure, powerful DB like Her Redness and PG's can basically combo every charm and steamroll everythiing that's not a equally powerful Celestial Exalted, but 'down to Earth' DB are still limited and so the power-balance of the world is more...

That's more or less the intent of the first option. Every Charm is Balanced unless you choose to switch your Aura to a different Element (maybe because you just activated an Aura-Charm that give a juicy bonus if you are in a particular Aura and you want that). But even then, you switch the element, but the Aura don't stop.

In the second option you buy a Merit so every charm of a certain element to be Balanced.

In both cases you jusy keep Aura going since, for my understanding, what cause problems is the Aura stop working, not the fact that the Aura is of a particular...

Mmmm. I must have understood wrong the Aura-based Charm mechanic, because I was under the impression that interrupting Aura happened the moment when you activated a charm that was not Balanced and could only be restarted at the end of the turn. And the Scene-long Charm that required Aura finish when you drop out of Aura.

If that's the case, wouldn't the first Option prevent that in any case since you can just choose to not change your Aura but mantain the previous one?...

Only if they use a Charm that consume Aura....

My idea was that the DB, when he use a charm that it's not the of the same element, can choose to mantain is Aura or he can change the element of the Aura at the end of his turn, but in any case, he never lose his Aura.

It's a less powerful version of "you're in every elemental Aura ever", basically treating every charm as balanced unless you want to change your Aura element.

Alternatively, you just buy the power of count your Aura like it's alway in a particular element (with the Caste one being the default). You do this using some kind of merit (like, several...

    I can finally write here.

Hello there. Long time lurker here. I decided to start an account since with the arrive of the Lunars I felt the time was right (I have a weakness for trickster characters and the Lunars are perfect for the part). So, here I am.

Maybe someone that lurk around Spacebattle know me already, right Sunder the Gold ?

Well, that's it. Oh, another thing: if you see me make some grammatical error, please have patience. Secondary language and all of that.
