Not if you're going for a global conspiracy which aims to monopolise the criminal world and ensure that the multitude of Kindred of other Sects who find themselves relying on the criminal underworld now have to owe them. Especially if you get into the really big guns like unsanctioned war-profiteering that requires a global network to accomplish....

I'm sure there's more than enough Kindred among the Giovanni, the Setites, Ravnos, Assamite Warriors, even enterprising Ventrue Autarkis who would think they're good enough to dodge government attention (even if they later learn they overestimated their talent in such matters).

I could even see Caitiff who decide to throw in with such an organisation. A lot of crime comes from hardship and the need to cut corners at the expense of the law, and that's a lot of Clanless right there....

I'm honestly surprised Masquerade never had a criminal empire of Kindred form as a Sect at some point during the metaplot.

The identity of the top dog being a mystery to most Kindred in the city? Sounds like the way the Ventrue Directorate are described, with their identities being completely unknown to most even within Clan Ventrue......

I was thinking that myself. The way it reads is that they're a goal-oriented Coterie of mercenaries (definitely in the business and political sense, maybe also the military sense) who will work for whoever's willing to throw cash their way, and the leader is simply appropriating the title of Baron to make it clear that they have power....

  • His whole story is quite an interesting one. For me, that's because he embodies the old trope I've seen in plenty of old stories where "the little guy triumphs over adversity and becomes a great figure" - but without doing the tired old thing of having it happen through moral goodness that would realistically get him killed a hundred times over.

He's certainly many steps above Augustus "be the biggest asshole in the world for no reason and then end that world for ill-thought-out reasons, hahaha I'm rich!" Giovanni....

  • I know the Tzimisce-blob dwelling beneath New York was according to the Gehenna book for Revised meant to eat the city for dinner.

But now I'm real curious where Absimiliard trying to go Manhattan Project on Manhattan is mentioned, cause I wanna read that shit....

  • Considering how rare accurate records going back more than a few thousand years are to find, for both Kine and Kindred, he was probably very active for the first few thousand years of his unlife. But then, like the Antediluvians, he decided it was time for sleep, but its the impact of the Antediluvians which take up the limelight because they're the ones who brought huge lineages into the world.

Well, that and the Antediluvians decided to gang up on his kids. Caine probably didn't want to be holding up a huge sign saying "here be Caine" (figuratively speaking) and then have...

  • Mere blood bonds can only be felt by the subject due to the emotional impact, so the other Tremere wouldn't just be able to instinctually tell whether someone else is under the blood bond by virtue of its absence.

That being said, Tremere spend their entire unlives under the blood bond and being around other Tremere under the same, especially if you buy into the utterly nonsensical "a Tremere is never allowed to even step foot outside the Chantry until they hit Ancilla age" line (which I'm not going to start on right now), so it may be much easier for a Tremere to pick when...

They just know that they've never been pinged by tests, and they're in what they consider perfect physical condition. Win-win) ?...

  • An alternative option could be that the Sabbat would have worked much better as an Antediluvian-worshipping conspiracy who want to return the world to the "good ol' nights" when Kindred openly ruled and the cattle quivered, bowed and offered their necks in hopes that when a Kindred inflicts their cruelty and hunger upon the living its upon someone else.

"Look at what the Masquerade has done to our world! We used to be the glorious overlords! The eldest of our lines used to be worshipped as Gods! But now mankind has spent so long thinking it should bow to nobody that...

  • Probably the same folks who said they're against slavery and then decided to implement the Vaulderie, while admitting the likes of the Salubri Warriors and Harbingers of Skulls whose sole motive of avenging their Antediluvians is both against the Antediluvian-killing doctrine and a violation of the Code of Milan saying "don't use the Sabbat for personal agendas and gain." #integrity...

  • Let's not forget that, also, the Book of Nod - that text the Sabbat love to ramble on about - revers the words of the Antediluvians of six of the seven Clans that founded the Camarilla. Nothing for the two Clans of the Sabbat.

I mean, we could go with the option of saying "the Book of Nod is outdated" but considering the emphasis the later books - lots of them - put on the Sabbat and detailing them, and the number of books they did revised versions of...

The Sabbat truly is the most clustered of fucks if they're going to revere a text which was written by an...
