  • A luck pool where players can give themselves "bad luck" by narrating an adverse circumstance and removing dice then later give themselves "good luck" by narrating a beneficial circumstance and adding those removed dice. In order to force meaningful decisions, the removed dice are rolled anyways and only added to the luck pool if their removal turned what would have been a success into a failure....

You can explicitly spend bonus points at any point in chargen, see the second paragraph of page 125....

  • The outro fiction.

Though I hate the intro fiction. You have a Solar doing apparently nothing after the narration of Solars as world-shaking badasses, a Wyld Hunt dribbling into the fight, bizarre word choices that rip away from the tone, combat narration that doesn't actually tell you what's going on under all the flowery prose, and I personally hate the sudden divergence into food-talk during an assassination.
And worst of all, it's the first thing a reader is going to see....

  • No, I mean I disagree about there being ANY restrictions on circle for that example working. 1CD, 3CD, Lesser Elemental Dragon, City God, Deathlord, 'sall the same....

  • Sounds to me like you want to "Grant mutations to oneself or a willing subject" which is T2.
I disagree RE 2CD and don't feel that conclusion is supported by the text. But it's a moot point if you're just trying to futz with appearance....

Mechanical guidance, not fluff. Guidance on pools, X+Y. Not X, not Y, X+Y. For PCs. The guidelines you point to are fucking useless for PCs. Three to six dice "is a fair challenge for players’ characters who are moderately to significantly invested in that area"? Bullshit. PCs get into that dice range with Attributes. Not even Excellencies or Abilities, just Attributes....

    See, more scapegoating.
The problem is that the system clearly has some expectation of what numbers will be thrown around. Not just for combat, not just maxima. Certain ranges in which it behaves well, for all pools. But it doesn't communicate them.
How many dice is "right" for a starting Dawn to be strong but not overwhelmingly strong? To win, but have fun back-and-forth in doing so? Bloody fuck if I know, book doesn't say a word.
And what about other characters? How many dice should the "present in every fight but not fight-centric" folk have to...

Until a book comes out saying what the chargen expectations the system is based in are, it's 100% a game problem that players are getting scapegoated for....

The system's effectively dead to me until Crucible of Legend comes out and unless it covers the horrible failings of the corebook I need addressed, so I know exactly what you're talking about....

  • For me, the solution is not running this system. Half of my six person group has shitlisted it and won't touch it again. One dropped after a social encounter where the PCs were flailing around not accomplishing anything (probably because none of them had read the social rules despite last session ending on an impending-social-encounter cliffhanger) and walked out having had to make a Eclipse-deal with an Abyssal that they wouldn't interfere with the siege of Thorns. The other dropped after a 4 Solar v 3 DB + Size 3 Troops encounter ate six hours realtime and half the Solars might as well have...
