regarding the new bane i don't see the issue. the way i see it the old lasombra bane created 2 issues it made them easier to identify as a vampire (just check their reflection) and made them dependent on ghouls for their looks. the new bane seems to just do the same thing it just applies to technology as well as mirrors

so could antbody explain where my logic falls apart?

the lasombra are a great example on what's wrong with V5, fine ideas horrible execution.

the lasombra joining the camarilla is a fine idea, but the deal they took for joining boggles the mind how any writer could think this was in any way rational. the lasombra have no reason to join the cam (they have a reason to leave the sabbath, not join the cam) the deal they got was incredibly harsh, for lasombra that held certain ranks in the sabbath you could justify it but for your average pack priest, grunt or something of that caliber? no way in hell.

    oblivion is also horribly...

  • i think V5 vs V20 is an ultimately pointless argument because they're clearly trying to be 2 different things, and the answer will ultimately be decided by preference. that being said, V5 is just not a good system, it just has to many problems.

  • yes exactly i don't want extra mechanics tied to an NPC that's why i've been suggesting to tie more mechanics to said NPC

    that was sarcasm btw...

  • so either make touchstones non-entities or make convictions so bland you could apply them to somebody with the personality of tv static. and here i thought convictions should have weight to them...

  • except they don't represent any conviction, they're no embodiment of human values oops. if only it was my relationship with a touchstone that mattered and not some conviction nonsense. double oops my ghoul is a dog, those can't be touchstones now what.

do you understand the issue now...

  • an NPC doesn't need to be a touchstone for your PC to have an emotional attachment, doesn't even have to be a human could be a dog and that can't be a touchstone. i'm always more emotionally invested in my ghouls, then my touchstones.

and once you have your conviction, your shield, a touchstone becomes nothing more then the way to lose your conviction which doesn't even make sense in the slightest.

and that's my issue, touchstones in themselves don't have value, it's the convictions they let you keep that does. touchstones are just standard NPCs with alot of mechanical...

  • it'd be alot easier to stamp out if the only diffrence between a NPC your character likes and a touchstone wasn't literally that it's easier for the ST to screw over your character with a touchstone.

you call it an attitude problem but it's an attitude created by the mechanics which is why i keep banging on about them...

  • here's the thing tho you can have such relationships and moments with any NPC, you can do that with your retainers, ghouls, contacts, other player characters, etc. but with touchstones you have said moments despite them being touchstones because the best thing you can do for your touchstones is avoid them because being a kindred puts everybody around you in danger. the more you care about your touchstones the more reason you have to avoid them. and i know PCs aren't 100% rational actors, never should be, but there needs to be better incentive for PC to hang out their touchstones other then, "your...

  • i have to disagree, the failure of touchstones in V5 is primarily mechanical. the only purpose of touchstones in V5 is so the ST has a methode of destroying a char's convictions and an NPC to use to recover agrevated willpower (for which any NPC would do). touchstones aren't just being presented as a burden, them being a burden is literally backed into the mechanics.
which would be fine if players only had to take them if they wanted to but they're mandatory that's why so few players don't care about touchstones, they have to have them but they don't need to care about them, and the game...
