  • The main reason Egyptians in ancient times were thought shave their head was likely to because of lice infestations. This did eventually makes it way into becoming common practice for priests of the area and time, which is likely were the inspiration for this idea for the Children of Osiris'.

That said, I vote making it traditional, but not required.

  • [V20] Question About Retainers

I recently hear about this line in the Retainer Background (page 116):

After hearing about this, I searched the book and found nothing. I searched more of V20 and V20 Dark Ages. I found that Dark Ages Companion has some rules for this, but they also upend everything I thought I knew about retainers up to this point.

So now I have a question, were there guidelines in previous editions for making more "competent" retainers? I'm mostly curious as to why this was added with no way to capitalize on it outside of homebrew....

  • I'd end the series in a simple, horrifying matter. More then 90% of all kindred and Cainite have been executed by the SI, and nearly all remaining vampires have been forced into torpor.

Years later, the new edition v6 would released...

  • I'd make the argument, "What if it happened to you?"

Would you want to be eaten and then forcibly absorbed by some power-hungry asshole?

Unlike executing a horrific monster, which can be justified, diablerie carries much more risks then just killing them. First, you're eating their soul, which is worse than killing as it guarantees that if there is an afterlife in WoD, other than the shadowlands, then they won't see it. Not only that, but it also opens you to being possessed by said monster.

I hate using Hitler, because it's too easy, but what if...

  • Humanity and Morality! Opinions Wanted.

I've been thinking about Humanity and the Paths of Enlightenment for a while now. Namely how to change it in a new and unique way. After some time, I came to the conclusion that I need some ideas and feedback. So here are a few questions:
    1. Which edition's Humanity/Morality systems did you like best? Why?
    2. What do you think Humanity should represent?
    3. Do you like what Chronicles did with Integrity? Do you think it would be a good replacement for Humanity in VTM?

  • Already mentioned in a previous post that Convictions by RAW only negate stains you get from breaking Chronicle Tenets. Unless your ST says otherwise, this would not work....

  • Vampires have a lot of advantages. They half bludgeoning damage, can buff physical stats with blood, and can grow they're numbers faster then a rabbit on Easter. That said, they're the "punching bags" because young vampires are nothing compared to literally everything else. Except wraith, they suck.

In terms of power, vampires only get stronger with age. However, to werewolves who fight corrupting spirits and monsters who are naturally more powerful then the leeches, they tend to be more skin to a minor annoyance. It's like find cockroaches and ants in the kitchen, you're...

  • Wouldn't have worked. Obfuscate focuses on the manipulation of one's perceptions in V5. Making Obtenebration into an Obfuscate amalgam makes little sense in that context. If anything, it would work best as a group of Blood Sorcery powers. That said if they did that, 4 separate clans would have Blood Sorcery as an in-clan option. Also, because of the no unique disciplines rule, they couldn't make Obtenebration or Necromancy their own unique disciplines separately.

Ultimately, I think they did what they had to do. They had to make a discipline that could fit with both a Clan of Shadows...

  • As much as I have mixed feelings about v5, why not use the SI? Make it so that SI agents have captured, or are in the process of capturing, the feral Gangrel? The higher ups in the SI want to release the subject into an active Elysium after nearly starving them of blood. The players could rescue them, and the Gangrel can aid the group in pursuit of revenge.

  • Fair point. I'm sorry for not being specific and being culturally insensitive. My point is still the same, Necromancy being seen as wrong in some way, BUT you are right....

  • It very much would IMO! Like I said in a pervious post, "I see what they were doing, but it is stupid."

It's the weapon verse the wielder argument. Is the weapon itself inherently evil? No. The weapon could be used in defense of others. The main reason Oblivion likely gives a stain is the popular depiction of Necromancy.

Necromancy is almost always seen as evil in popular media. This comes from years of several different cultures and beliefs dictating it as such. In Jewish and Christan belief, Necromancy is seen as a sorcery that involves you communing with...

  • Obtenebration powers tend to invoke primal fear in those who witness it and cause extremely slow and painful death in the form of suffocation. Necromancy is actually worse most of the time. Necromancy often does things like cause inherent suffering, enslaving of others, and death. Of all the main disciplines, these are the easiest to use recklessly, and even to the point of causing death and suffering. In fact, it is so easy, most users of these disciplines take on paths of enlightenment to avoid the hard moral questions.

Now yes, I do still agree with you that it should depend on...

  • I see what they were doing, but it is stupid. In past editions, Necromancy and Obtenebration were pretty messed up, to a point a character on Humanity should make a degeneration check when using them recklessly.

Now here's the thing, I am a rules lawyer. So, my first reaction was to see if there was anything that could mitigate this RAW. Turns out, no. Convictions can mitigate stains gained by violating Tenets, but nothing else. A good ST would, and should, allow Convictions to mitigate all stains when you gain them in service of them.
