  • Thank you. I always appreciate clarity on these subjects from designers the internal logic of setting developments and the design process fascinates me.

Bit a tangent but the only time I've seen the power used (on another player no less) culminated in the offending player being beaten with a baseball bat with silver nails in them and players new nickname was creeper Terry, with people doing the creep at him for about a month. Oh and he botched the roll.

I laughed so hard I farted.

  • I took it as more of a pr stunt. The setites are lying through their fangs. Then again I found the ministry bland so maybe I'm bias.

  • It was nice to see Serena back, certainly sweetened the pill of the raw inplausibility of heceta....

I tended to modify it as garou have +2 appearance to seduction rolls as their animal magnetism draws people to them. Thay way its more like making yourself really sexy in mage rather than creepy brainwashing, yeah they're hot but if you're not up for it you're not up for it.

I have a nagging suspicion the rule isn't getting into w5 regardless. Its already going to get weird enough when furries start using the "no metis" rule to bang in chinos form. I have no objections regardless...

Plus money is as street as it gets, look at something like the wire or sopranos and you'll see the dirty messy aspects of urban life tend to quite focussed on money. I've got a budgeting meeting this afternoon to deal with a surplus for community support (I know).

Between this and the ethnic/institution free street,Anyone else get the impression the authors have no idea what street life is actually like? It's not just a bunch of poor people worrying about the community centre....

Which obviously raises the issue of how exactly he's going to try and stop a mage being loaded in m5....

I suppose it isn't worth noting that in previous editions of werewolf resoarces 5 wasn't actually that impressive compared to the raw might of a garou. A ferrari and bribe money is nice but the capacity to regenerate fatal injuries in seconds is way better.

  • "Well I tend to deviate from most of my clan by letting my ghoul have a personal life and not constantly abusing them... obviously 20:00-03-00 she's mine but letting her do her own thing means I don't have to deal with her stupid shit so much. As for her uses, mostly mundaine stuff- buy me stuff, clean the haven, I need a gym buddy etc. I also quite enjoy interacting with someone whose just nice to me and isn't fucked up beyond all reason."

  • I've always got the impression it was just a bad idea which made it through development. They thought it sounded cool but didn't consider the practicalities of it.

WoD/op has had the whole "power at a price" thing for a while now but often struggles with the cost/reward ration and the dynamic with other powers. Usually resulting in "powers which totally suck." Instead. It could have worked if oblivion was op as hell but like most v5 disciplines you don't get your bang for you buck.

  • Yeah you might be able to homebrew it with blood sorcery, maybe throw in a couple of oblivion rituals if you can find any which work.

Its not ideal but it should do.

It isn't effectively the same game, its probably closer to the dynamic of the two battlestars. It'd probably be wiser to access it by its own merits, which is itself a tricky prospect because wod5 tends to be intrinsically reductive rather than expansive which aside from being an risky way to run major franchises is going to constantly draw harsh comparison with previous editions despite author intent....

    Twitter-the doomscrolling.

From some of justins posts on irl politics and the constant flirting with nihilism w5 seems gearing up for. I'm beginning to think this edition might be a case study for the importance of game designers touching grass....

Yeah something sickens me about how cowardly this attitude is. Reminds me of a lot of people irl, I cannot imagine how badly it would reflect on me if I had that power and knowledge at my command and I was only willing to use it to keep the local community centre open....

So what were talking about is a werewolf game where Justin doesn't really want you to play a werewolf or really engage with the formally rich setting but instead do stuff you should probably be doing irl minus the cool wolf stuff anyway.

Jokes on him I already volunteer at a food bank I don't need to pay him 40 quid for that lol....

....and yet they removed kinfolk and cultural links in tribe, which would have really helped with that....

Correct me if I'm wrong but if w5 is going to be 'street' shouldn't playing the money guy be a completly viable option, especially as urban combat is now something to skip so the muscle seems redundant.

Just what exactly am I supposed to play?

  • Pretty much all of that is the stuff from older editions but heavily stripped down. Heceta being the exception which feeds into the oynx path stuff genrally being better but very hard to justify on that basis alone....

  • That's probably not a good thing considering how light on rules the games are. What are you ultimatly paying for without crunch and fluff?...

Their was a quote from a video game reviewer i think applies here regarding games.

"If you're removing stuff from a game rather than adding, go back to the drawing board."

Its such an odd thing you trim from the game. It won't really achieve any acclaim, newbies won't know and its just a pebble in the shoe for people who liked the idea of their pc welding a weapon....
