Even then it doesn't make sense, since it works on the assumption new players wouldn't want Get present. It's the equivelant of Disney saying "you know what? fuck wolverine no zoomers would like him. Scott and Jean only." After getting their grubby mits on xmen....

My main thought about the get falling is who profits? We know get fans are effectively getting the middle finger but who actually benefits from this decision? How does it improve the game?
So far I've only seen one person proactively happy about this move and that's because they wanted get players ostracised....effectively making him what we brits call a complete arse at best. Pretty much everyone else seems to be either downplaying it or engaging in apologetics.

The way I tend to run it is cold acceptance. Neither is inclined to move against the other but both are genrally unwilling to support or assist one another. Tolerance in the literal sense rather than modern, I like as a plot point and obvious source of conflict. For example I ran a short mystery were a giovanni anchilli went missing and naturally the first suspect is the cappadocian eldar....

My spin is i tend to run them as subtly leaning towards specific sects.
Cappadocians-the cappadocians are slowly gravitating towards the Carmarilla. They're still bitter about the promise but historical links with the ventrue indicate they'll be formally confirmed as members of the sect at the next inner council meeting.
Giovanni-giovanni remain independent alongside the piscanob, dunscirn and other families with the exception of the milliners.
Harbingers and milliners have remained and defected to Sabbat respectively.

Its an intrinsic writting problem with the anarchs. They're undeveloped and are only really defined by reactive personal grudges. Even the speeches about freedom come across as pathetic when you pull the thread since they have a total lack of praxis. The problem was aggravated in v5 because of increased emphasis on them.
They actually worked a lot better in Revised as a dissident element in carmarilla society or holdouts in Sabbat. When they hold actually uncontested territory their complete lack of civic institions and distinct from other sect organization becomes a real proble...

The cappadocians main probably has it worst on.this front I think, several of the clans historical abilities have nothing to do with the dark umbra full stop. Especially considering the powers that suppress vampirism. It also serves as a bit of a plot hole that the deeply curious cappadocians seemed oblivious to lasombra insights into their staple discipline.
I tend to play heceta as more a series of non aggression pacts than anything the clan name is mostly a way of letting everyone save face with clan status. Several sub groups still discretly despise each other and Co operation...Last edited by Ragged Robin; Yesterday, 05:50 AM.

I've noticed the thread seems to thread closer to lasombra focuses over hecteta. I'm curious if this is due to the heceta being one of the better written soft retcons of v5 or people just preferring lasombra in general.
Thinking on it giovanni where historically a pretty rare play choice in my gaming circles although cappadocians where popular to the point people wanted to play them on modern.

My idea for the defection is the King's and Queens of shadow descretly slink across during the gehenna war/2nd inquisition after years of secret negotiations with the price being an obscene amount of laundered cash and assets. Majority of the clan remain Sabbat but carmarilla numbers are substantially boosted at a 60/10/30 ratio between sects. Les amis noir now acts as a neutral ground for the keepers and thus, a strictly kept secret. I can see your mindset and appreciate ithere but it sort of damns the setting with faint praise.

It probably doesn't help that the carmarilla actually covers a far larger base of vampiric population the setting acknowlages, you've got roughly 2 rich guy clans 2-3 disenfranchised clans by severity of flaw, 2 refugee clans and 2 clans in complete free fall and by free fall I mean "we might be a bloodline in terms of numbers" shortly.
They kind of work in the context of 1st world vs 3rd world circa early post Soviet 1990's (lol) but they're loasy model for 22 global politics and vtm shies away from that anyway because of its focus on the 'street'....

The new exclusivity of the sect also subtly undermines the proposed primary conflict of v5 by removing a point of contention with the anarchs. Under v5 its completly fine for territories to exist outside of carmarilla authority.
I get they.where trying to set the sect up as a sort of snooty 1% have vs have nots but it's even that falls apart when you think on it....

Its also worth noting the cappadocians in heceta also loose out with this in mind. Cappadocians historically where a respected high clan and often relied upon as advisors and academics. Them being more susceptible to degeneration and Wassail doesn't really mesh.
It works a little better with giovanni but it's been clear that the giovanni's issues come from culture rather than nature.
Although naraja shouldnt be on humanity full stop.

The odd thing is the defection is completly redundant their where already lasombra in the carmarilla not to mention the possibility of ashira refugees ala the assamites.
The presence of tzmisce anarchs was far better written on reflection.
But back on subject how many people just flat out ignored the rule? I know I did.
I've noticed a similar rule in previous editions where a Thaumaturgy botch caused the loss of a willpower point, I think this becomes more acceptable due to low risk/high reward ratio in the discipline. Pretty much yeah it doesn't help that it's noted the lasombra don't even really bother with the rituals genrally so they're not even the best at death magic.
As presented in previous edition the clans obtenerbration combined with potence is outright brutal in combat so they could when combined with the assamites they could have "it'll do" filled the gangrel/brujah hole with revised/v20 rules. And an obvious extension of that dillema is how and when you accept a degree of monstrosity to maintain a sense of self. Also that's pretty a early game approach. If you're over about 10 years you've already cultivated a degree of monstrosity path or no.
