Worth noting that the chance for losing Humanity when you use an Oblivion power is not all that high. It's a 1 in 5 chance for getting a stain, sure, but you get to make a remorse roll at the end of every session. The lower the character's humanity, the more likely they're going to pass the remorse roll. So yeah, an oblivion user is probably not going to stay at Humanity 7, but once they drop down to Humanity 5 or so, the chance of losing more gets pretty small. "Accessing the Abyss inevitably erodes your soul" is a design choice you can agree with or not, but it's not like the mechanics...

  • Honestly I think that coming up with a premise for a chronicle and characters who are appropriate is a Session Zero collaborative effort with shared responsibility among Storyteller and players. Meaning that it isn't necessarily the ST's job to hook in the player's character concept; the player has some responsibility here too. Some character concepts may not be a good fit.

  • I'm not sure I agree that it would be disruptive to anything other than the speed of character improvement, which is still going to be slow even with 4 points per session, but if that's the sticking point, then some other variation on the theme would work just as well. My point was just to continue to riff of of the notion that players will do what the game incentivizes them to do, and frequently it is very simple to add some carrots to move the game in the right direction....

  • At this point if I were to run a crossover game using Rev/20, I would pick one game as the "home" system and use that system's rules for running the other supernatural types, rather than running each type according to its own rules. So it wouldn't be a true crossover game, and a Lupine in a Vampire game wouldn't be the same as a Garou in a Werewolf game because it would be seen through the lens of Vampires.

  • Also easy enough to incentivize by giving XP for it. At the end of a session, award 1XP for playing consistent with a character concept, 1 for hunting consistent with your predator type, 1 for actively pursuing your Ambition, and 1 doe interacting meaningfully with your Touchstones.

I realize that V5 usually gives Willpower recovery as a carrot for this kind of thing, but it XP works too--I have seen this kind of scheme work really well in Blades in the Dark where you get XP for roleplaying in specific ways that are consistent with your character....
