  • I thought that running a "Stranger Things" style campaign with a bunch of Talent kids or young teenagers would be very doable. It would definitely explain why a bunch of kids could be so effective at facing the unknown. Maybe give them a "Child" path that gives them access to more luck Gifts?

  • Isn't the religious aspect sort of baked into the whole thing? Scripture was Mal's former lover and views him as an idol and he was one of the people who helped form Teras, along with Divis Mal. Although Scripture probably doesn't actively, personally worship Divis Mal and instead probably more views the personal struggle to attain apotheosis in a religious fashion. He certainly doesn't seem to stand in the way of those who would deify Divis Mal, though.

  • I don't think you should have to house rule everything into the game. There should be systems in place, especially when there are examples of characters in the game who have certain abilities. Like there are characters in the game who are Psiads who have lived for centuries. An easy explanation for that is that they had at least a dot in a Vitakinesis mode. Divis Mal and some of his inner circle have existed for at least a century by the time of Aberrant. How would players replicate such a feat? There should be an actual power option available, rather than just "Oh, just make something u...

  • I would argue that a Nova is just a human with different capabilities. That Teras as a philosophy fixation on denying that is more a matter of the philosophy's creator being a young gay man who spent his early development in a time period where being gay was much less accepted and him developing the protective mental shield of himself as "Special". As the mass of humanity being a bunch of lumps not even worth the effort to try to interact with or elevate. When Michael Donighal really became the special entity he considered himself he embraced himself as something other than human rather...

  • I see Divis Mal as a Superman analogue, except following Randian ideals rather than being selfless. He doesn't seem to really want to take a leadership position, rather he wants to be a symbol of his ideals and example to others. He really does seem to think that his way is best and that eventually it'll work. And I suspect that if (when) (if?) it all falls apart he'd attribute it to the failure of his followers rather than any flaw in his philosophy.

  • One of the major problems with the Teragen is that Nova's aren't all equal with each other just like they aren't equal to Baselines. Sure, a single Nova could be stronger than any Baseline could ever be, or smarter. But how many other than Dark Stars are jack of all trades? One Nova could lift a skyscraper over his head, and another could talk a person into suicide. One Nova could read a book on vehicular engineering and build a car while another could run across the entirety of the United States without taking a break. Now according to the Teragen every Nova is an island, a nation. They need...

  • I actually like that bit of in-character commentary and think it makes sense with the pseudo-science of how Vitakinesis works. The basic Vitakinetic power "Knit" makes sense as repairing the damage of the aging process, effectively making someone with a dot in a Vitakinesis mode biologically unaging. It's a nice example of how Psi powers, in general lower in power then Quantum powers, can still outshine Quantum powers in some ways because they sidestep some issues rather than doing what Quantum powers do, which is usually brute force things. I just figure Nova's should also have access...

  • Dorming down actually deals with Transcendence equal to your Quantum rating. So if you have Quantum 5 and Transcendence 5 if you are Dormed down nobody could tell something is off about you.

  • Going Dark Star would be tempting, but why not go for a little power? Nothing too much, but I figure quantum 3, mega-stamina 3, Flight and Adaptation is what you need to take a walk on the moon. Probably some mega-intelligence to figure out a way to bring some people with me?

Yeah, I guess I'm stepping on the Daedalus League's toes... or am I going to be a founding member?!

Honestly being capable of personal space exploration mixed with not having to eat, drink or breath with being able to produce your own materials seems like it would be really helpful to avoid getting...

  • In 2E don't they only get like 40 extra years added to their lifespan if they have some dots in mega-stamina, with them only gaining effective immortality with mega-stamina 6+? If they don't have mega-stamina wouldn't they only live as long as a healthy Baseline?

Seems a bit odd that Nova's get a little cheated on immortality when Psions and Psiads can get effective biological immortality with a single dot in a mode of Vitakinesis. What are the ways for Nova's to get expanded lifespans? Does Adaptation give expanded lifespan?

  • The fact that Novas are demonstrably different the Baseline humanity is why I'm surprised no one in universe made a counterpoint to Teras rather then just stubbornly point to the Zurich Accords rather then deal with the fact that Novas wield powerful energies that increasingly alienate them from the rest of humanity.

  • Transcendence seems fairly firmly associated with positive connotations to me. If anything it has religious overtones. It was perhaps an over correction from the negative connotations associated with "Taint".

  • Oh, the point isn't to make it secret. The point is to make it at all. Like some bright individual working for Utopia, or just someone who can see the problem of Nova's growing in power and Transcendence related issues adding to the problem of Nova-Baseline relations takes a look at Teras and thinks, "Yeah, but how about something like that but not abandoning your humanity and claiming yourself as a sovereign nation, exempt from all rules?" The idea is that anybody who has the motivation to create such a philosophy would spread it as far as he or she could. Because, like Teras, presumably...

  • That's the reason? I am aware of what they would be chuckling about but that use of the word "taint" is not so front and center in my mind that it's the first thing that I think about when I hear the word. I'd think most people would hear "taint" and think of something being contaminated....

  • [Aberrant] Society engineering, memetics and developing a philosophy.

What stats and skills would be necessary to create a new philosophy or system of government? For example, what would you need to have in order to come up with a rival philosophy to Teras? And it was noted in Aeon that the Chinese government runs so well despite its size and representing so many different cultures in part because of it being tinkered with by a Nova. Presumably another Nova could come up with a system of government that would function very well. What would a PC need to replicate that? It's not just being charismatic, it's actually building a system that can be run by Baselines that...

  • Couldn't mega attributes help? Composure is used in the main book as the stat that you mechanically use to roll for bonds, does mega-composure help with transcendence related problems with dealing with Baselines? If the rules as written don't support that use for mega-composure anyone think it would make a good house rule? Like each dot of mega-composure you have let's you reduce the difficulty you have to bond with a baseline due to Transcendence related difficulty. For example if you have mega-composure 1 and Transcendence 2 you wouldn't suffer any problem with dealing with Baselines. You're...

    The Teragen are canonically right?

Okay just got the Aberrant book and the first thing that strikes me is that apparently the Teragen are right? They're way to deal with being a Nova is the right way? And I was already aware a bit of the change from "Taint" to "Transcendence" and I was not a fan. I mean I suppose in universe it would make sense for a lot of Nova's to embrace their gradual change to gods but in general the constant developing evidence that when Nova's gain more power they grow further and further away from Baseline Humanity it seems like the general consensus is that it's something negative....

  • The genetic marker that allows someone to be use Psi or Quantum is the same, at least in the last edition. I think that's one of the reasons that turning people into Psions and Superiors is so useful besides getting a new superhuman to help out with the mess known space is in. Every Psion and Superior you make is one less potential Aberrant.

Oh, this sounds neat. Might we see some Cattle Punk with the Steam Punk? Cowboys fighting Martians would be cool.

  • Maybe "Inspired" is the term for the hazy area of power use that falls between and outside of the whole "Psi" and "Quantum" power sources. I'm a used to the whole old Adventure! system where Z-Rays were a mix of Psi and Quantum energies so I'm not sure how Flux is going to factor into things. But maybe "Inspired" is referring to people who are powered by Flux (Talents) or people who are on the Psi or Quantum power spectrums who haven't broken through a specific threshold. Like Superiors are fairly Quantum associated but they are not full on Nova's.
