    Adamantine Arrow Inspiration

I've always thought the Arrows were cool, but was never inspired to play one. After watching Sunday's Elementary and learning that Boxing Chess is a real thing, I am suddenly inspired to create one around the concept. I was wondering if anyone else has taken unusual inspirations for the Arrows and run with them.

21C Hermit & Solar I'm personally cool with anything, each group has their own threshold for changes they want to make to the game or who they want to make an NPC or historical figure in their campaign.

I get in trouble with my relatives for being agnostic and referring to the Christian religion as a mythology, so I personally try to stay away from religious figures that might touch others personal buttons. But again I have not problem for others going there.

I mentioned earlier that I saw Rasputin as a Thyrsus, so cool, and I can definitely see Hearst as a Seer although I'm not enough up on the Seers to peg his ministry. The fact that he toured Europe after WWI and bought entire walls and floors of various building to incorporate into his California mansion complex always seemed like it would be a great mystery to explore. Who knows what all he acquired for the Seers.

  • You came away with a very different read of the Meacheums than I did.

I have a lot of sympathy for Ward since he has been trapped in an abusive relationship with his father since childhood. He was actually my favorite character on the show and I appreciated his growth as he struggled to escape his situation. Having said that, Ward's struggle leaves him psychologically incapable of caring about others in a significant way. He may get there now that he is finally free from his father at the end of the season, but in season one he was rightly self-centered on his own issues.

  • I've never read the comics, so I have no reference for the source material, and my comments about Danny's privilege were explicitly not linked to reinterpreting him through the Mage Awakening eyes. I was just commenting on what frustrated me about the show. I think Finn Jones (the actor) did the best with a poorly and inconsistently written character. I don't know if the privileged mind set was intentional and set up as a growth arc by the writers, but I highly doubt it because our greek chorus character Claire has no problem pointing out others flaws and this one never comes up from her.

I'd say its an Arrow to Apostate story actually, since he breaks every oath he has taken. First to defend K'un Loa, then poverty, then chastity, and finally to destroy the Hand.

I really wanted to like this series, but between the pervasive white male privilege and drawn out story it just fell flat to me. I almost threw the laptop across the room when Danny told Davos he got to drive without a license because he was rich. I thought the truest moment for a character that has spent 15 years in warrior monk training was when he smacked the crap out a kid for...

  • The tribe in Clan of the Cavebear by Jean Auel had to find a new cave when an earthquake collapsed theirs. In the Sundered World with spirits all about the initial settlement destruction could be due to angered spirits and the journey/quest for a new home for the survivors/refuges would be even more dangerous. After all of that, a new location is full of unknown new complications/adventures. I could easily see a complete campaign around an idea like this....

The right levels of Space/Life should do this in various ways with the internet just being flavor text. The right levels of Forces/Life with Time for a triggered delay could transform energy stored in an email attachment to bees when the email is opened (I would think)...

Yeah, I completely see Vlad Tepes as a Mastigos as well. With his emphasis on protecting his country, I'd bet he was a fair hand with wards as well.

I could also see John Henry as a Libertine as well, with an emphasis on the labor side of Techne, and the entire folkhero/modern legend thing feeds into the humanity is magick. Some form of Paradox definitely got him when his Life magic failed and his heart gave out at the end of the steam hammer race though.

Regarding Hoffer, I feel I bit like an idiot since for some reason I read it initially as Hoffa (as in Jimmy),...

Tesla/Edison feel very Mage Ascension to me with them each fighting to get their paradigm as part of consensual reality. Not sure how I would do them in Awakening.

Any one interested in learning more about Marconi, I would recommend Thunderstruck by Erik Larson. Its a pretty good read.

To each his own, but for me Manson is enough of a monster/nutbar as a mortal without any need to be elevates, although making him a Banisher could add an interesting layer to him and his followers actions.

Some of the others I am not as familiar with as I should...

I'd probably go with Thyrsus, just do to his indestructability and his enhanced endowment below the belt .

But if I was honestly going to use him in a mage game, I would build a Proxima Legacy around him so I could have a bunch of Rasputin-lite antagonists to throw at my PCs....

While I respect that as a default, I prefer a "yes, and ..." approach to roleplaying and setting building to a "no." approach. In my view mages are still ultimately people (greatest strength/greatest flaw), so you are bound to have a few well known people that are mages.

First, although I used the RBG example defending the court house as an example, that was for visual reference, not a literal interpretation. Like any mage, a well known mage would keep their magical life a low profile among sleeper for all the reasons that you could enumerate both mechanically...

You could probably have a long arc out of a Golden Rule(s) around the Right of the Master/Right of the Apprentice and its role in each aspect of society. If enough evidence existed that master/student relationship had preference over mage/order, then a recognized Golden Rule would stir up issues of loyalty with cross trained mages. Prolific teachers might end up with more political power due to apprentice obligations. What if a Golden Rule declares an apprentice's apprentice also owed loyalty/duty back to his master's master, ect. The possible specifics are endless.

    As far as I...

    Ideas for Famous/Well Known Mages

Back in July 2014 I posted a bit about using Alfred Hitchcock and his wife Alma as mages who had left behind a legacy of mysteries in the form of master prints of his filmography that served variously as grimoire and artifacts.

    http://forum.theonyxpath.com/forum/m...raphy-grimoire

Last night I revisited the old idea with the thought of possibly updating it since 2E hadn't come out yet. It got me thinking though, what other famous people might be interesting as Mages. Not to...
