I'm personally not convinced by the "JNPR is doooooooomed" concept. When Pyrrha went the way of the dodo, she had regularly raised multiple red flags. When season 3 closed, she had to either die or it would be clear no main character would ever die in RWBY.
A couple seasons later, Ren, Norra and to an extent, Qrow have raised SO MANY FLAGS. Further, Nora and Ren are pretty much spent story-wise, and neither bring much to the cast that another could not provide.

The point I'm trying to make is, if they wanted JNPR dead, they'd have taken down someone either at the end...

  • Right now, I'm thinking first finishing up my version and probably pick up a couple formatting ideas on your side, and then I'll copy/paste all the easy info into yours.

I get the gist of your approach, but I can't quickly think up an idea that could integrate both our strenghts, so I think two "competing" works might be a better start, and maybe the solution will make itself evident in usage.
Still, I've got a couple ideas how to easily fill up your columns where our approach differ, so once that first phase's done, I'll probably make a copy and see if I can help...

  • Hey! I tried something similar last week, and I'd love to give a hand - I'll see if I can fit a couple hours later today.

Here's the thing for comparaison's sake! (Yours looks way cooler, BTW)

First, don't be afraid to pilfer anything you want from mine. Next, I had a few questions regarding your end objectives.

    A) How are you going to represent Charms that allow to expend Aura when upgraded, like Drawing Lightning Style? Maybe a new value in the columns "In Aura Bonus" and "Expends Aura" to express how and upgrade exists? It would actually

And also, a true master of manipulation would be using incite to create emotions to exploit, and Bargains to get other to do those little favors that distances one from his usual social circles, limiting external factors. They're also likely to use their existing followers to bombard the target and drain its Willpower (that is actually a pretty good description of the first half of love-bombing actually...)

Actually it's not that real-world manipulators are beyond the scope of the system, so much as they play the system to the hilt

  • Sorry about the near double-post, but I'm done with the worksheet. It's very bare-bones in a "Jim, I'm a database manager, not a graphic designer" way, and I still need a few answers to confirm some of my interpretation (of the texts), but it should give a rough idea as to what is what.

Here's the thing. PEACH and all that!

Couple of things I noticed is that Aura is really only present in combat skills (which makes sense) and combat-applicable skills. Most of the Charms requiring Aura are actually fairly easy to set up inside their own skills, with a few outliers...

  • Supposing that was mostly aimed at my last comment (if not, well, apologies), I meant complex in the character creation phase. Now that I'm done with my Excell for Auras, I've come to realize that it might become a slight issue to activate the Air and Fire Brawl Signatures (as they require their Aura, something that no Brawl Charm can provide).

So you could technically have Charms you're completely unable to activate. To as lesser extreme, you could have Charms that are hella hard to activate, requiring cross-ability planning (Setting up Air or Fire Aura via Dodge/Athletics/Archery)....

    Nah, not at all.
    It's more of a casual in-conversation sorry, not a formal "I did a boo-boo" sorry.
Or think of me as a bit of a (RWBY's) Phyrra. I'm cool with both.

(Rejected draft: Sorry, Not at all! I didn't want people to think their messages came across as judgmental.)...

Yeah sorry, I meant that as a joke, and not a commentary on the cheesecakiness. On my side, the character reminded me more of the fanatic in the Da Vinci Code, which seems par for the course.

I'm working on a small database to simplify Dragon-Blooded Charm selection, and I wanted to check a couple things:

    A) I'm planning on giving out: Charm names, Essence and Ability requirements, Signatureness and Aura-related info (in extensio: the Element, Aura and Balanced Keywords, as well as Cost in Aura). I am also considering releasing Prerequisites. I am explicitly NOT releasing Charm description, Types, and non-Aura Costs, Keywords or Durations, Do you have reservations on some or all of these info being openly released?

    B) Regarding the various effects of Aura,...

  • Ok, I'm done with my first read of Charms and first impression is positive. A couple things I did note is how freaking complex the entire thing can be. While Solars were hard to digest due to the breadth of Charms available (and the meandering text), DBs have left me dazed by its depth. I mean, you got the Excellency Charms (okay, nothing too rough), then comes in talk about Cascades (par for the course), then Elemental Aspect (so far so good) that bleed into the concept of Aura.

And that's when things get really complex to parse - It's clear there's a desire to create a flow to Charm...

Quick nitpick: neither Earth's Jugment Awakened nor Fang-of-the-Depths Draw is Aura Keyworded (which make those two Charms at least usable).

  • Yeah, and also, as far as I went, they are much easier to read, similar to AotC. It's still a bit of a slog to read through, but not the nightmare than Core 3 was.
Also, to quickly go back to the pagecount thing, it's actually the reason I compared sizes for Archery -> Investigation for Core and WFhW, to get a rough estimate as to how long we can expect the DB Charm chapter to be. 150+ pages still sounds a reasonable ballpark....

Also, I really, REALLY want Glafira's sheet more than ever....

  • Yeah, I just did a quick count of pages, but am also reading in order. I haven't found a real penalty for DB's creation, except less flexibility in Aspect Abilities vs Solar Caste. roughly same amount of Attributes, Abilities and Charms, and there's actually an advantage Merit-wise.
I'm guessing the real split is in the Charms' potency, and limitations in Sorcery, Martial Arts and Evocations. So in short, they're just as Exalted in their sheer natural ability, but they get a slightly less favorable powerset. Anyone's been tinkering with the Charms to confirm the power difference?...

  • Nearly 65 pages of Charms. As a quick reminder, Core had 60 pages for the same abilities (Archery -> Investigation), so we're likely looking at no less than 150 pages.
Man, this is going to be another hell of a doorstopper.

You hit that nearly on the head. House Tepet was Ned Stark, executed by Sesus, and Season 1 is already over....
