  • I'm still hoping to recreate my monkey-totem martial artist (in the aesthetic vein of Son Goku), so I'm really looking forward to dexterity and wits charms in particular. I'm hoping to be able to do something cool with multiple MA styles (probably a max of 2 given the huge investment, but mixing MA is conceptually cool even if not optimal), lunar attribute charms, and hopefully a cool SSJ4 form-ahem-Deadly Beastman Transformation.

Conceptually, his schtick is that he believes that, since the First Age, the Exalted Host has repeatedly made the same mistake: creating a world that can't...

With respect, while you are articulating the forum orthodoxy on the subject, and doing so quite well, the answer begs the question.

In the first instance, empires (or Empires, as they're often called on the forum) in Exalted are whatever the writers say they are; there is nothing inevitable about them or their nature in the fiction. The point that I would make is that the Realm could have been written in such a way that there would be interesting moral and pragmatic questions about Solars/Lunars destroying it or Dynasts restoring/reforming it; not doing so in favor of baby-eating...

Too bad the same can't be said for Lunar-Dynast engagements. For a superpower, the Realm doesn't really seem to successfully do much of anything.

Maybe The Realm will be the first book to portray the Realm as something other than Snidely-Whiplash-evil, baby-eating, murder machine of ineffectual incompetence... but I don't hold out much hope for that.

I'm glad that the Lunar book hypes Lunars; I just wish that any book did the same for Dynasts and the Realm....

  • What do you want to see in Lunars: Fangs at the Gate?

What do you want to see in Lunars: Fangs at the Gate? In terms of mechanics, thematics, lore, and whatever else interests you, what do you want to get out of Lunars?

Please, be as specific as possible. I think that it could be interesting to compare hopes and expectations to the material and reactions once things start to be released.

As for me: what I want is to be able to rebuild my favorite RPG character, a monkey-totem lunar martial artists (unabashedly inspired by the aesthetics of DBZ). 2E Lunars were mechanically fraught, to be sure, but the combination of DBT...

  • Let me address your point two ways.

First, you can use the Wyld Hunt to tune the amount of glowy you want from your party. That is to say that a party of solar exalts is extremely powerful, and if you let them do whatever they want and act as openly as they want, there's very little that will slow them down let alone stop them. You can use the Wyld Hunt, or rather the threat of the Wyld Hunt, to encourage your group to be a little more circumspect in how they behave... at least until they realize that they actually have little to fear from the Wyld Hunt, which brings me to...

I am both excited for and wary of the Lunar kickstarter, much as I was for the DB kickstarter.

Here's the thing: I am a very getable consumer, and I'll buy the products all day long once you get me. Exalted 2E got me. D&D 5E got me. Exalted 3E has yet to get me. (I backed the 3E kickstarter, I dropped the DB kickstarter after seeing the manuscript and am undecided on buying WFHW or The Realm, and we'll see how I feel about Lunars.) I really hope that Lunars gets me.

As I reflect on what I just said, it's funny that, in some ways, I'm much more discerning about the...

With respect, I didn't mean to start a discussion about the merit of the Lunar excellency as presented in the core book, as that seems outside the scope of the thread; I just wanted to post the question to the OP.

    THE NEW HOTNESS!

The short answer is that I don't find it to be fun in the least, which is problematic for magic that is used so often. A longer answer is beyond the scope of this thread (and I'm skeptical of the value of challenging orthodox positions on this forum)....

A threshold question for me: does Lunars still use the stunt-based excellency structure from the core book? (Of course, I understand if that's not allowed to be answered at this point.

I really want to recreate my 2E lunar martial artist, literally my favorite RPG character ever, but that excellency loses me for the lunar kickstarter and likely the book itself.
