I'd be interested in knowing your thoughts on WFHW. Just in case I encounter another of my players that has similar thoughts.

I agree. I'd be interested to see that as well. I personally am super excited to play a DB campaign!

  • Well, honestly we didn't get much of a chance to see those. Maybe it's due to the fact there aren't strictly occult charms? The whole book is organized by Attribute, not Ability. But, I can look through now and see how they fare....

  • The playtest document didn't have anything about Limit in there. It was really about 5% character creation and 95% Charms....

I agree. More lines for Charms and/or actions over weapons. Any character is only likely to have a couple of those. Overall, outstanding work yet again! No, how to format a Lunars sheet...

Minsc was one of the best characters of any game I've ever played!

This is how I see it as well. It's not necessarily putting people into oaths they absolutely cannot prevent breaking, but giving you more power over people. "Hey, stop cutting down all of these trees and poaching these animals, or you'll regret it." "Uh, okay. Please don't hurt me." And then they do it some time later, and boom, you've got their shape....

Whoops. Yeah, we didn't have much time - less than 24 hours - to go over this stuff before recording. And it isn't a complete document. 5% character creation, 95% charms. So, we're sorry for making you anxious!...

Isator Levi, I am sorry this seems to not gel with you. That genuinely bums me out, for real. We were given the playtest doc on short notice to recording our episode, and chose to throw out our previous plans to cover this thing as soon as possible. I understand how some of the vagueries and generalities could be both confusing and/or frustrating. Suffice it to say that Lunars: Fangs at the Gate is going to blow everyone's socks off when it lands!

To all others: this was not part of the leak. Robert did indeed pass this on to us, with the restriction we not directly share the document....

  • That makes a lot of sense. I always have the desire to use some of those huge organizations, but haven't ever felt comfortable enough to pull the trigger quite yet. The closest I came was having one Hunter in a Tier 1 cell being a member of Network Zero. She was of course eventually assassinated when she got busted, the other Hunters fearing she knew too much. Ah, good times....

  • That’s some good advice! I do feel compelled to clarify that I meant that I was the ST looking for advice on running a game. Not playing in one. But I can still use that info just the same.

  • Very well stated. I concede that one person's view on Morality might not stack up with another's, and you make a fair point about mental health vis a vis Derangements and the like.

You really hit on it at the end, though. Losing Integrity is just, like... so what? You know? It just doesn't feel important. And maybe that's what I'm really drawn to in the Morality scale.

    Morality scale versus Integrity scale

What are y'all's thoughts on the Morality scale versus the Integrity scale? Personally, I far prefer the Morality scale, as I like the measurement of losing your aversion to performing certain once-intolerable actions. I understand the Integrity scale, and it's not bad. But it just doesn't seem to hit the "You're becoming a monster in your own right, and here's the proof, Guy Who Is Okay With Murdering Innocent People Without Flinching" way that the Morality scale does.

Also, if you don't like the Morality scale, why not? I'm curious, because I know some people really don't...

  • Hunter tiers and how to run a game effectively

So, I ran the first one shot scenario for my group the other night, which got me all giddy about Hunter again, since I've switched over to Exalted. But my question is this: how do you run a Hunter game effectively utilizing the tier structure? Do you start at the bottom and slowly work your way to the top? Or do you choose a tier and pretty much stay at it? Also, what are some tips you can give for playing Tier 2 and Tier 3 Hunter cells?

  • While Ruger makes some very solid points, I kind of lean towards nofather here. I agree that the system isn't meant to prevent good stories, or even bar a player from playing a Slasher chronicle as the Slasher. But, I feel like this would wok best in more of a one-shot scenario, you know? Or little spurts here and there. A sustained, long-running Slasher Chronicle - to me - seems like it could get old real fast. But, I freaking LOVE the idea of pitting a Hunter cell against a Slasher/s as the main antagonist/s of a long-running chronicle!

Honestly, I don't turn to fiction that much for inspiration. What I do, when trying to come up with a compelling character, is pick a horrific incident in the character's life, and then build from there. In one story, I played a 19-year-old woman named Jae. She was sexually abused by her father, and subsequently became a cutter. Eventually she gained enough courage to run away from home. In another (albeit a Mage: the Awakening game, not Hunter, but my process still stands), I played a Mage who was studying Death and Time in an effort to bring back his daughter who had died very young from cancer....

  • I also think the answer is yes to both. They can kill people, and they can kill monsters. But they are the main antagonists facing Hunter cells, so it seems like they'd more likely go after people, IMO. They are the quintessential Slasher Movie Killers. Dropping guys and gals like a nervous outfielder dropping pop flies in his debut game. So, I don't think they're meant so much to have a theme as opposed to being what opposes a Hunter cell. But that's just my 2 cents....

  • So... None of this is official, but after our episode with James Bell, he may or may not have intimated that Hunter could very well be coming up very soon....

  • Thanks for the feedback Nagi! Means a lot! We are going to put an article up on our website, Fivepoles.com, explaining the basic ways to send in a voicemail. Look for that soon. We've had several people ask us how to do that, so we'll be putting up some basic instructions before too long....
