You wouldn't. You'd have a variety of students, each of which are at a different point in their advancement, some of which might never advance. Your "star pupils" might be the only ones capable of unlocking the Charms.

It might not even be a question that's answered beyond "it's for players. NPCs need ST fiat", which, honestly, I'd be fine with as it's a question that is interesting to come up with different answers to, rather than "have these pre-reqs".

Chances are, though, that if it gets covered, it'll be in splat-appropriate books (Underworld...

"Mara is the creator of Black Claw Style, and knows all of its Charms" -- p529, shows that Martial Arts are not Exalted-only.
Mara doesn't know "versions of all of its Charms", she knows "all of its Charms". The charms that Mara knows are exactly the ones of Black Claw Style. It's not "something analogous to" Black Claw Charms. What she knows are Black Claw Charms, because she's the one that created them and it.

You know, I'm in the opposite-but-similar situation. I strongly dislike Promethean's themes, because the whole "amnesia and trying to be human" schtick is almost diametrically opposed to the reason I play role-playing games (I'm not fond of the whole "figuring out who you really are" trope, though I recognize that it's interesting/useful for others).

And I'm hoping liminals won't be that.

I'm hoping to play something like Humonculi from Full Metal Alchemist (either the Anime or the Manga, though the first series is probably closest), though I'm not...

I'd allow it (and am currently running a game with a Black Claw Style Ghost Sifu who's training his ghost-blooded daughters). There's little risk in breaking something -- since ghosts don't get excellencies their "power level" or whatever is maintained, and it can always be chalked up to sorcerous/necromantic shenanigans making that one (group of) ghost(s) special in case of setting breach.

The central antagonist gives a good idea of how Unshaped Raksha could be run until the book they're in actually comes out in 5-10 years....

I'm a French-Canadian ST, currently have 3 players, and there are at least 12 more in my vicinity. None come to the forums....

Should Medium-sized Tiger Claws be compatible with Tiger Style, or will it break something?
Thinking of Vega from Street Fighter 4, where the blades are basically as long as swords.

This might be a stretch but: is there any real-world analogue to Dreaming Pearl Courtesan style?

I only track "exotic" ammo, like firewand rounds or special arrows, that are hard to obtain and/or interesting to Craft.
I've had the alchemist-with-a-boom-stick roll Craft mid-battle once or twice for "retroactively having made ammo during the last downtime" which works better for me than documenting it ahead of time. (I'm the forgetful sort).

  • Sounds like something that could be interesting as a Hearthstone (of whatever origin) – Draining the life out of the environment to prolong that of the bearer. Maybe even Promethean:The Created style where its presence not only depletes, but creates an area of desolation that's actively antithetical to life in some way....

Also, because of that obfuscation of information, they don't necessarily know they're Solar Anathema – they're still alive and in control of their body afterall, so it can't be a body-snatching sorcerer-demon.
For all they (those that don't get a visit from Sol) know they somehow Exalted as an Exigent or something.

  • Ok. then we fundamentally disagree *shrug*

Melee and Brawl are about much more than just "breaking things". What you're describing is a Feat of Strength.

At this point, I'm pretty sure our ideas aren't at all compatible, since they differ on a fundamental game-principles level, so I'm bowing out.

  • Sometimes I wonder whether these Charms are poorly written or if I'm the one that's missing some esoteric insight into Lunar Attributes.

On one hand, I get how you're "manipulating" your body. But on the other, that's not what Manipulation means...

  • Oh, ok, I misread your intention there, sorry.
In that case I think it'd be more appropriate to learn to make tools from your hands before making weapons. It feels more like a progression.

    Fair enough.

Thing is, the Charm itself is already intrinsically more limited than CNNT in that you're still working as though you had tools, you're not e.g. shaping steel as though it was clay as CNNT, you still need a source of heat and still need to pound it for hours. Taking it down yet another notch just for the sake of it seems entirely unnecessary to me. Just because...

  • Eh, not really? it just says it strengthens hands and sharpens claws, and gives them a superficial resemblance. It can be taken to mean shapeshifting, but it can also just mean "you make a screwdriver shape with your hand" without involving shapeshifting.

I can't find the 2e version (does it even exist? Exalted wiki has only the 1e version), so I'm not sure what problem you're talking about. 1e THT came out of Shaping the Ideal Form and had no relation to Body Weapon Technique.

Personally, I'd keep them completely separate, aside from maybe a synergy...

  • THT doesn't literally shapeshift your hand into a tool. It enhances existing features. Your fist stays a fist, it's just reinforced to punch in nails. Your claws stay claws, they're just sharpened for climbing or sawing....

How does "hearing as though it wasn't there" not allow you to hear around corners or up floors?

Also it's not really fair to compare it to Keen Hearing Tech. Keen Hearing is a second charm, Deep-Listening Palm is a first; Sensory Acuity Prana (a first Awareness charm) doesn't boost your ability to hear through things (beyond doubling 9s)....
