Yes, in a version of the myths the Sword in the Stone is broken in Arthur's fight with King Pellinore. Sometimes it's because Pellinore is a badass, sometimes Arthur behaves unchivalrously in some way or another and the sword breaks in response. Afterwards, Merlin takes him to the Lady of the Lake who gives him Excalibur in exchange for a favor at a later date.

That favor is called in when she wants the head of Sir Balin and that story is mess of twists and turns that it annoys me to try and sort out.

One of the important things to keep in mind is that Arthur and...

There may be gods and wizards and vampires and a wide and varied cast of nocturnal gribblies, but all of them sat down at a table one day and decided to hide from the normies for whatever reason.

Honestly, the Theoi don't really work like the Titans in Scion do.

The Kronos was overthrown and defeated, the Gigantes got close but they were also defeated and destroyed, Typhon to his credit did manage to overthrow Olympus even if he failed to stick the landing. Gaia, who has played kingmaker for the position of Lord of Cosmos pretty much since there was a cosmos to be lord of is still at large and probably still plotting to overthrow Zeus, but she tends to stick backstage. They don't really have an enemy to be having a Cold War with and the ones they did defeat pretty much stay...
