I think the potential downside would be that character might overshadow the other characters and make the game less enjoyable for those players. In the end that's what's important.

But that's the thing I didn't say that. I said one was the spiritual successor. I said being a different game doesn't mean you need your own names for things. Which is to say different games can share terminology. I also said I wasn't complaining that they had different names terminology. I'll also say for the record I do think they are drastically different games....

I do think full open development is likely to create better content. It's been a big thing recently among wargaming companies. The difference is they make money by selling models. A company that makes money by selling rules will have a hard time if they give those rules away for free. ...

Oh, I apologize. Gunshy. And yes, I agree it's a mistake. But if that's your main exposure to the subject it can difficult avoid, you know?...

Well one is an active reason to do something. The other simply allows for the possibility. I honestly don't understand why that's an issue. I was curious why they did it, not why they could. I legitimately apologize if this came off as combative. I simply sought an answer. I also felt like people were being needlessly condescending when I was really just trying to understand something. I'll also note, when it was fully explained (united Sumerian based language) I thought that was really cool and it improved my appreciation for the game and I am grateful for that.

I'm not saying anything should or shouldn't be expected. Simply offering an idea on why people may have that expectation. Why do people keep thinking I'm arguing for things? ...

So what do we think about Bull being able to crush the Tepet legions with his (presumably) fewer resources and smaller army? Would he need help?

I think it's an issue of the terms becoming natural to long term players. For example, you may be watching a werewolf movie and think of the werewolf as being in "crinos form". I think fans of these games often start to think of them as all encompassing of particular monster types. Still, seems weird to me when I see a vampire get staked in a movie and die as another example. For better or worse the setting transcends the game for many people....

You could disclose the number to the company so legal action could be brought against them without actually releasing it to the public. Though, I suppose if this had been done we might not necessarily know about it....

So did the Bull of the North still destroy the Tepet Legions?

I know it's a bit off topic, but would you mind elaborating on this? I haven't actually been able to to ST an Ex3 game yet....

I'm sorry but it's not. Wanting differentiation is a reason. Feeling old language doesn't fit new themes is a reason. Arbitrarily deciding is even a reason. But you can have a different game with the same language, therefore simply being a different game is not the *reason* the language changed....

At no point did I say they shouldn't be different. Again, I outright stated I wasn't complaining about it. I just asked if there was a reason. Unified linguistics based partly on the ancient Sumerian language is a reason. "Different game" is not a reason....

I'm not sure who was asserting that. It certainly wasn't me. I simply asked a question. Even outright stated I wasn't complaining about the change. My only assertion was games being different doesn't necessitate them using different language. Which still seems like a reasonable assertion....

I will say, I do with Onyx Path had been able to purchase the rights to Exalted the way they did Trinity and Scion(as I recall). Fortunately WW doesn't seem to have any interest in doing anything with the property themselves....

To be slightly more constructive, I assume Sumerian was chosen because of the age of the language? Note: I wasn't aware the first tongue was based on Sumerian (My Sumerian is a bit rusty ). I assumed it was just a made up language. That does make it much more interesting to me....
