  • Ah ok, my bad. Yeah, I reduced the Occult Roll to just 2 successes.

  • Never really said this was the case, don't know where you are getting this from. I have no idea what the average # of successes are for the 50 million simulations I ran. Would be a headache if I do so.

This was before the condition thing, so I see where you are coming from.

Ah, I had not considered gaining a Condition, you are correct. So, you can take a Condition or give up then and there. Interesting potentials, thanks for this Satchel. I imagine the Condition is Supernal in nature, maybe it subtracts 1-2 from your die rolling if you continue....

  • Supernal Beings can perform feats that other entities can't do like bring artifacts down or give you knowledge about the Arcana to help you advance faster. They are also less likely to hold a grudge against you since they go back to the Supernal and I assume forget about you, but who knows, maybe they will hold grudges if you deal with them wrong.

  • Well, I am unaware if there is an online resource containing this data. I know it is on page 94 of the Mage 2E Core Rulebook near the bottom right corner of the page is where it starts....

  • OsuNeko, well, the big difference is summoning those entities are spells with Reach Options and have spell casting rules. Summoning Supernal Beings is not really a spell, but rather a ritual using extended actions....

  • Here is your chance of summoning Utnapishtim without any aid from a friendly mage to boost your die rolls: ~60% in 7 turns
If Gil was a Master without 8-again: ~88% in 7 turns.

  • I did not include die tricks for this scenario because not every Path has access to one. Does not change the argument about Abyssal Intrusion though. You just don't have enough dice to roll to make it happen, ever. If you are referencing Abyssal Intrusion it doesn't get 8-again ever....

  • So, based on 10 million simulations, and a cabal of 6 very similar mages in Gnosis & Arcana Rating all with the same Path. All of these mages are going all out spending willpower and we shall assume the same conditions mentioned in the previous instances. They will have the following chance to summon a supernal being of the particular rank as indicated below:
Rank 1: ~93% within 1 turn (seen variations of up to +2%)
    Rank 2: 89% within 1 turn
Rank 3: ~78% within 2 turns (seen variations of up to +2%)
Rank 4: ~69% within 3 turns (seen variations of up to -1%)
    Rank...

  • Hmm... I guess I misunderstood Abyssal Intrusions assuming you had no limit. Then they really want this to be a group event, but even then to summon a Rank 3-5 supernal being requires a considerable number of mages, perhaps a consilium's worth. I thought summoning was meant to be a solo act based on the 1E Summoners.

Edit: I checked, in 1E Summoners you had no limit. So, that added to my confusion. You can safely summon 1-2 Rank beings no problem, but I would say a Rank 5 would require at least a cabal worth of similar Mages. Really is odd to me they made such a change when summoning...

  • So, as long as you don't risk Abyssal Intrusion you succeed. So, subtract the abyssal intrusion from 100% and that is your chance of summoning a Supernal Being of the specified rank successfully. You have no limit on the rolls you can make, you just have a Safe Limit, which is equal to Resolve + Composure + successes allocated for Abyssal Intrusion Protection. Your main goal is to remove as much required successes as possible and increasing your die pool as much as you can.

Based on a Starting Mage with Gnosis 1, Arcana 3, Resolve 3, Composure 2, No Paradox for the week, a Demesne...

  • Oh, I see. Fair enough, let's assume subpar stats then. Most Mages will have Resolve and Composure 3, but let's assume they spent their points on other pretty attributes leaving them with Resolve and Composure 2. They use their free Resistance Attribute on Stamina so they can fight good.

The following conditions in play with 5 million simulations:
Gnosis 1, Demesne Bonus, No Paradox, Base Duration, No Sleepers, 2 Occult Bonus (4 successes on Occult Roll, thus only 2 point reduction), No Abyssal Protection, Resolve and Composure 2, No Willpower Spent
    Rank 1: 0%
    Rank...

I haven't added those effects into my simulations, but I am using an extremely high number of enemies. Perhaps with those added the threshold would be much much lower. Good point though.

  • Actually the inverse happens I am afraid because you have more die to roll and get more successes and since the successes are static this only decreases your chance of the abyss. Let's look at high-game (Gnosis 4) then, same conditions as before except you now have Gnosis 4.
    Rank 1: 0%
    Rank 2: 0%
    Rank 3: 4%
    Rank 4: 6%
    Rank 5: 15%

Noticeably smaller chance of risking abyssal incursions, my guess is the larger die pool offsets the build up of the dreaded abyssal incursions. It seems the chance of the abyss creeping in gets smaller each gnosis upgrade. Not...

  • From my understanding there is a thing called Mirror Twilight in this world with reflections, it exists as a different state of existence than the standard states of Twilight. Essentially, it holds certain events/objects based on some rules about whether the object has the potential to die or be destroyed. It seems that certain things carry over into this twilight that may not reflect current events/objects such as someone with their hair non-dyed in their natural state and not their facade. This would also essentially remove the need for most of the piercing abilities as I am not sure how Corpse...

  • Also, for anyone curious here are your chances of risking abyssal intrusion when summoning entities of different ranks for a starting Mage based on 5 million simulations:
    The following conditions in play:
Gnosis 1, Demesne Bonus, No Paradox, Base Duration, No Sleepers, 3 Occult Bonus (6 successes on Occult Roll), No Abyssal Protection, Resolve and Composure 3
    Rank 1: 0%
    Rank 2: 0%
    Rank 3: 8%
    Rank 4: 14%
    Rank 5: 32%

The length of time is probably a good amount requiring some Stamina + Resolve checks I am sure. Based on the percentages, your...

  • Scarlet Witch is correct, I believe it has been stated that some of the fluff is still usable from 1E Supplemental Books but the mechanical aspects of favors and so forth have changed considerably in 2E.

So, I think it is feasible to summon a specific being....

  • It has been a long time coming for sure. Nearly 3 years for 120 pages is a really really long time. It could have changed since then no longer being limited to that page count. I think there were too many pots in the kitchen for one man to juggle it all. DaveB has done an excellent job with the work on Mage and the magic system is something I really enjoy now that I have gotten some time to play with it....

I have watched this show, and after 3 Episodes I was done.

Mainly because he was a Werewolf that had Magic and Werewolves hunted down magic so basically this caused some conflict that really made no sense to me. So, how have Werewolves and Mages not killed one another out? The same deal with Twilight, but that is another story. Why did he kill his favorite professor? Was it just because? I guess that is my lack of watching Episode 4 to discover why his Werewolf self killed his college professor. Maybe he was using magic? I don't know, but it seemed like a cheap way to take a stab
