replied to The House Rule Thread
I have a house rule regarding Shifting Sands and kind of a house-rule for Hallows:
Shifting Sands requires 1 point of Mana with each use and travelling back a full scene requires 1 additional point of mana. The flow of mana at a Hallow is also constant regardless of Time Manipulation, thus you cannot gain mana from a Hallow more than once using Shifting Sands.

This keeps people with the initial Time 3 from just saying, "Alright guys with my 1 Dot Hallow I will get full mana."

  • Yeah, unfortunately we don't have a lot of information on their creation. To me when making an imbued item you need to evaluate the pros and cons when deciding persistent or contingent. However, based on what we have provided to us it seems that spell factors are flexible based on the following quote from the 2E core:

Based on this, it seems you can create the spell factors when imbuing the item especially since you can change the spell factors if you have not relinquished it yet. So, in the example of the +3 Strength unless the Reach was spent to increase the effects...

  • Hey Inodiv,

I have added the quote from the 2E Core, if an Imbued Item casts a spell on another subject, and it is persistent, which as the book indicates always active, then you would gain the effect from holding the sword. Very little else is said about Imbued Items and Persistent Effects, but if I were to use RAI and based on 1E it would seem the effect is provided to whoever holds the item.

If 2E Imbued Item Persistent does not work this way, and it has to be triggered/activated, then it is not really a persistent effect and is instead a contigent effect....

  • This was how the persistent effect worked in 1E, if it doesn't work that way then it is pretty pointless to have a persistent effect that works only for the item, besides that is what Enhanced Item Merit is for....

  • So, from what I am gathering here, Imbued Item with the persistent effect works like 1E minus the cost of 1 dot, but once you add that persistent effect that is all the "Imbuing" you can do. Your remaining options are to add spells to enhance the item using Matter or other spell effects that affect the material/tool in some direct way.

For Instance, I could use my Imbue Item attainment to place a +3 Strength persistent effect on my sword then have a Moros mage buddy increase the durability/damage of the item using his Matter magic cast with an Indefinite Duration giving...

  • Very true, which is why I had to ask. Seems like you could say "I am going to put a +3 Strength Persistent effect on this sword". Which, I mean arguably is not against the rules and thus there is no real mana catch here. *shrugs*...

  • Actually that is an additional effect.

Is what Mrmdubois and I are talking about, so I believe you can get a +strength ring....

  • I believe Mrmdubois was saying that if you choose to make it persistent it is essentially fulfilling the same purpose as using the Enhanced item. I am not sure why this is, as it seems a round about way to do this honestly since you don't need the Imbue Item Attainment to make an Enhanced Item. *shrugs* This may be a left-over relic from the 1E Imbued Item.

1E seemed to have a fine distinction between Imbued and Enhanced that has become more fluid with 2E where Enhanced can mean any spell with an indefinite duration on an item....

  • This is slightly related, but can you set the spell factors for Imbued Item when created? Or does it simply use the Default Factors unless you still have control over the spell?

  • Cool, thanks! So does that also mean you can have a persistent effect and a contingent effect on an Imbued Item? Since you can combine the two Merits.

  • I have another I hope simple question:

Imbued Items with Persistent effects, do they use Mana constantly? Or do they not use Mana?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Fair enough. I shall proceed in that fashion....

  • This seems to indicate you could use Death 5 to cast a Death 3 spell and gain the Reach from having used Death 5, thus the Potency if the Primary Factor was Potency should be 5....

  • This is hopefully a simple question, and I can't seem to find it anywhere with my google searching:

Can an Artifact have set spell factors like Imbued Items? Meaning an Artifact casts a 3rd Dot Death Spell with 5 Potency and Duration of 1 Day.

So, in this instant it would be a 3rd Dot Spell cast with a Death Arcana of 5 with a Reach spent to make it Advanced Duration and perhaps another for Sensory Range and a final for Instant Casting. I think this would be possible.

  • Hey Horodrigo,

    Those are some interesting bugs:
#1. Very odd, I have never heard of anyone experiencing this issue.
#2. This is working as intended at least for me, my main goal was to have Gnosis increased only by Arcane Experience.
#3. This sounds like another bug I had not too long ago as well.

Try using the following version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3rrmxpj84d...eator.zip?dl=0
