Ah, thanks both Satchel and nofather, I kept looking under the Gauntlet Breach and Twilight Form, didn't think to look under Essence itself. That is interesting, so the Essence Bleed Mechanic has changed a bit from 1E where I believe unless they were Fettered to an item or Possessed someone they would bleed every hour but now in 2E they can be close to something Resonant and not lose Essence as fast. Thanks for the assistance!

    Hey nofather,

I gotcha, so a little more powerful than I had originally stated. I guess I am getting 1E confused with 2E because I could have sworn that spirits lost Essence while existing in a state of twilight, but I can't seem to find that in 2E anywhere.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone!

So, if I am understanding what you are saying correctly, it looks like this is a place for Rank 1 or 2 spirits with a special set of Numina that would allow them to survive in the state of twilight with the possibility of fettering to an object or encountering enough resonance/essence from ongoing events. Kind of like freelance spirits "Essence for Hire" sort of thing. As for the local gauntlet strength, you are correct regarding spirits suffering a penalty based on that so it would work for some low-ranking spirits with a sizable...

    Twilight Spirits

    Hey everyone,

So I just had a general question, how many spirits do you typically populate the twilight with? I am just wondering, because it seems there is little use for a Spirit to go into Twilight and it is a costly affair to gain what advantage exactly? They can feed from the Resonance in the Shadow, so why even bother going into Twilight?

I know some Spirits that are attached to items would be in Twilight since that is the only way for that to work, but these are special cases and will not likely be that many.

    Thanks!

  • Hey Aeryes,

Awesome that you found no bugs! I am hoping those are all removed. All items should say "You do not have enough experience to increase your <thing>." I noticed that Gnosis mentioned merits instead of experience, but this has been changed now!

As for the cheat sheet, I wish I could but space is really the enemy on trying to make everything as minimal as possible. I see your point as it would kind of be nice to know what boosts what though.

I have removed the blinking cursor for the mana and willpower though, so you can rest...

  • Hey Falcon777,

I see now what you are saying. That has been fixed now as well. The download link has been updated. There was an issue with trying to become an initiate with experience.

    Thanks!

  • Hey Falcon777,

I discovered the issue with the XP and the dropbox link has been updated to allow downloading.

    Thanks!

  • Hey Falcon777,

Thanks for trying out my program and finding a couple of bugs. Weird, the arcane beat issue was not ever an issue but looks like the event was removed when this button was pressed.

As indicated in my first post, Gnosis can only be increased with Arcane Experience.

I will definitely look into this XP problem, I am not sure what is going on there with reporting incorrect values, sounds like I need to just do some random deletions to see if I can get this issue to appear for me as well.

I assume your issue with the Merits/Attributes...

  • Thank you sir, that is a much better way of looking at it. I was thinking more like Knowing is a radar ping while Unveiling is taking a good look through some type of binoculars, but I suppose they both kind of mean the same thing....

  • Also, just a quick user's guide for those that do give it a try:

Arcane Button actives Spending Arcane Experience vs Spend XP button which spends regular experience.
Right-clicking in the large box next to the dots for a skill shows a list of suggested specialties, all pulled from the Chronicles of Darkness book.
There are no checks for Merit pre-requisites, so use at your own risk.
If you have a Legacy and place that Legacy Arcana in the box on the 2nd tab, it provides the XP refund for purchasing a dot in that Arcana.

    Mage 2E Character Creator

    Hey everyone,

Here is a Mage 2nd Edition Character Creator program that allows you to make characters, save them, and re-load them for further adjustments and needs. Some things to be aware of regarding this program:

    - It is not 100% bug free, though I like to think it is . If you do find bugs please let me know so I can work on this.
    - You cannot trade Merits for Gnosis, this a feature I have house-ruled in my game so it extends to this creator
    - Banishers/The Mad are considered Orders and have some minor effects such as The Mad with 0 Wisdom and Banishers...

  • Sorry, I decided to add on more to my thoughts regarding Reach to change Primary Factor. Probably to allow people to make changes to a Rote they learned from Bob the Mage, who felt Duration was the key for his spell, but for your uses it is much better for Potency since your goals and purposes do not align with his. Thus you can use one of those Free Reaches to adjust the spell to your desired effect.

  • Hey Johnny Awesome,

I really have no problem with the current 2E Creative Thaumaturgy aside from Unveling and Knowing, those 2 Practices really stomp me a lot of times regarding what kind of spells fall into those two categories and the major difference. Anyone with some tips on that regard would definitely be appreciated!

As for the justification? I think the primary factor for 99% of the spells were done well and have no problem with them. However, it does appear you have run into some you don't agree with, do you have some examples that seem to be conflicting? Also,...

  • Hey Johnny Awesome,

It does seem to work well from my experience and has definitely taught the players that jumping into combat is probably a horrible idea so they have grown more cautious about these types of things. The temptation you state is also present in my house rules. In fact, the players with 15 Die could have increase the Potency by 5 or 6 and dealt 8L or 8A on their next spell, they just did not think to do so. It would have left them either with a 3 or 5 die pool which is typically enough for 1 success.

  • I would agree with Mrmdubois, this is a Time 2 Spell with possibly a Space Component of probably 2 to prevent the target from moving if that is what you are aiming for. Otherwise, the previous suggestions work for all other applications.

  • Let's look at this example in practice:

You have a Moros that is being chased down by a pack of zombies and he runs into a room. He quickly turns around and casts Alter Integrity on the door to grant it some more Durability, he places 4 Potency into the spell because he wants the door to hold them off while he thinks about his plan.

Now, the Wooden Door has a durability of 1 normally, but this spell boosts that number to 5. Spell done, and the door failed to Withstand this increase in Durability. Let's say an Hour passes by and the spell was cast with 1 Day duration and...

  • I do believe we will need to hear from DaveB regarding this issue because it is definitely not clear either way and there are lots of questions regardless of what path you choose. Either the bookkeeping becomes a mess on one hand, or boosting Withstand temporarily quickly becomes useless for long duration spells.

Hopefully we can receive some clarification, if only I knew what Supernal Being he happened to be I could find a Mage of the appropriate path to conjure him to these threads.

  • I too loved the Perfected Adept Legacy from 1E, but I noticed you have assigned a lot of reaches. From my understanding the Free Reaches are based on the Dot Level of the Attainment versus the Dot level of the spell.

So, essentially a Forces 4 Spell that is a fifth dot attainment has 2 Free Reaches while a Forces 2 Spell that is a 2nd dot attainment has 1 Free Reach, which typically is assigned to Instant Casting unless otherwise noted in the attainment description indicating a larger amount of time to use the effect. Aside from that I like how the theme and feel of the legacy has...
