  • Played straight, I like Nursey from Blackadder the Third. There's a great mortal in Castebook Air who tells Tepet Arada how it is. I think the most memorable mortals are not exceptional in anything other than having the stones to tell the Dynasts how it is.

I'm really enjoying Lin in The Fall of Jiara podcasts as well.

I would farm some of the work onto the players. Have them buy Allies/Retainers/Followers and describe mortals which they find interesting and memorable. Your players don't need to know Exalted to do this -- they describe the character, you tell them how...

  • I wouldn't stamp my foot and insist on Celestial 2. Celestial 3 is fine as a balance point if you have concerns.

But Celestial 2 is for single target superpowers. And burning someone from the inside with your gaze isn't any "more" magical than turning your blood into scorpions in my mind. Celestial 3 is for creating entire magical beings whole-cloth, enchanting buildings and punching holes in reality.

Single superpower ("such as a burning gaze") is Celestial 2.

  • Regardless of what the canon says: that sounds like a fun story concept and therefore you should allow it at your table.

    My reading is as follows:

You need to have RLF active.
You need to be struck by a fatal blow.

So setting yourself on fire isn't going to cut it.

The Charm renders you immune to decisive damage. So arguably Environmental Hazards and Poison should by-pass it (but not Falling).

Enraged Ratel Persistence is a prerequisite, but unless it's active you can be talked down.

Ending RLF early ends your immunity AND Crashes you.

    Grapple/Engage/Restrain.

Generally just construct the fight so you can't win by standing...

  • I'd likely stat up Mary Poppins (or Yondu) as god-blooded. Basically normal people who have neat tricks.

In my Ragara game the characters (Banoba's twin sons and Bhagwei's daughter) started fresh out of secondary school. They went North, officially to secure House financial assets, unofficially to gather information to cure the Great Contagion, unbeknownst to them to kill a Lunar. Banoba would write to them, Bhagwei would send Infallible Messenger and between them they would try to herd the PCs into plot remotely. Eventually they returned home from the Threshold, somewhat disillusioned...

  • There's a couple of rules errors. Notably on mote regeneration (Peripheral refills first - d'oh), and the fight between Ganan and Eletha is faithfully reproduced in the Exalted Arena thread, the version here was my best guess from memory but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I'm not going to risk a ban by breaking the vBulletin TOS. (There's no new gameplay content in the Fade to Blacks thread yet so you're not missing anything -- I'm confident you'll find it between search engines and other communities which discuss Exalted.)...

  • I don't have the cockatrice's stats but I'd say that a cockatrice's gaze sounds like a Celestial 2 power equivalent to turning your blood into scorpions.

Dictating what dice pools you use sounds like Finesse to me.

    Celestial 2. Finesse 5.

If you just want a cockatrice themed gaze attack, Finesse 3 (and maybe give the ST a copy of the Hundred Devils stats as a bribe gift). Or if you hate yourself and want to risk Midas, Finesse 1 and roll the dice.

  • Alfred Pennyworth is a pretty cool Nanny.
    As is Mary Poppins/Yondu.

One of my best 2E games had all the characters be kids of Bhagwei and Banoba. Ragara was the BBEG (well, Ragara and the Ebon Dragon).

If the question is "which Dynast?" the answer is, basically always "Ragara Bhagwei".

Mnemon is also pretty interesting, with plenty of kids. I also really like Berit or V'neef.

I can see humans having some kind of universal sex appeal. I can also see humans being the least sexy creatures out there but RLSS overcoming this.

In line with my personal, political biases, I think attraction is probably more a thing between two (well one or more) individuals. I'm not exactly comfortable with entire species finding entire other species attractive.

But if we look at the evidence the Elemental Censor of the West is a freakin' dragon with a mortal paramore. There's a strong implication that humans are just sexy.

    Tangent: I'm pretty sure RLSS...

I'm a firm believer that we should just take Mela's Coil as the new Dragon-Armor.

That said... if you wanted to put something together, here's my take.

    Power Armor

Among the most powerful and awe-inspiring weapons of warfare ever forged by the Exalted in the First Age, Essence powered armor (or Power Armor) is a rare relic in the Age of Sorrows.

Power Armor created for the Celestial Exalted is usually Artifact •••••, whilst armor for Dragon-Blooded, categorized as Armors of the Immaculate Dragons by savants, is Artifact ••••.

    Melody (40/32)
    • Our trio of warriors are led down into the City of the Bearfolk
    • The construction of the buildings seems broadly similar to that of the Tower of Air
    • Various towers of faux jade are laid out in geometric mandala patterns
    • The city is large, easily twice the size of Dovak, but seems sparsely populated
    • The streets are wide, easily able to accommodate Clapper and the bearfolk escort without disrupting normal traffic
    • Bearfolk civilians scurry away from the warriors as they are led to a central tower, larger

  • You've got to contextualize this.

1E was a time when you basically weren't allowed to take 5 dots in your character traits in White Wolf games. Exalted had a little more slack, but carried that baggage.

Look at the 3E sidebar. A new beurocrat has Beurocracy 1. An experienced professional has 2 dots. An expert who can play a whole kingdom has 3 dots.

Banoba and his advisors have 4 dots. They're so good, they make the experts look like novices.

Bhagwei is built like a PC. He has 5 dots. And 5 dots in the relevant Attributes. A likely a Specailty...

  • Well, we know Ragara is stealing the lifeforce of an Anathema. And we know Her Redness feeds Anathema to the Imperial Manse. And we know(?) she carries the Hearthstone to the Manse.

So it's not implausible that the burning burdeon of the Sword of Creation is feeding her as she's feeding it.

It's not something that needs to be nailed down in game, but it makes one wonder what her three Hearthstones are....

  • If it's based on observation and testing, but is wrong, then it's science. Newton thinking gravity worked instantaneously is a mistake, but it's science.

Saying "god keeps us pinned to the world with his giant invisible hand" is not based on observation and testing -- it's not science.

That ancient cultures relied on methods other than observation and testing to create predictable models is not a value judgement. But my belief that Ahura Mazda caused the Big Bang is not a scientific belief. It's not something testable based on observation.

    So no,...

  • Whilst I unCroaked this thread with Croakamancer in mind (neither one of us wanted to clutter DrLoveMonkey's thread, and this thread is one of my bookmarks), I did bump it (possibly against forum ettiquet, apologies Lioness) with a post about the possibility of the Empress's longevity being the result of having a Gemstone of Immortality.

Which is something I'm interested in discussing further if anyone else is interested....

  • Counterpoint:

The Egyptians also thought the Nile was flooded by the god Hapi, and the nilometers were monitored by his priests who performed mystic rituals to appease him.

When you stop basing your truth on the observed evidence and start basing it on myth... that's... not science....
