True, but is that the same thing as fighting through pain?

I'd give a Shark something like the Tyrant Lizard's Furious Ramage: a "Blood in the Water" type deal where they fight harder when exposed to blood. Sharks don't typically strike me as being more dangerous the more wounded they are.

Fighting harder when wounded... bears, hell boars... badgers, maybe? Do we have badger stats?

    [Edit]

We do have badger stats in Fangs at the Gate. I would absolutely give a ratel berserker....

Oh I get it now! Completely inappropriate quote. Let's try this one:

    "13 isn't it?"
    "What?"
    "I make it 13." (WFHW)

  • Uh... yes?

My suggestion was you fix the challenge issue by not letting PCs max out seven different abilities at character creation and instead take one, or at most two, stats at 5 that represent the thing central to the character's concept.

Then mortals could still challenge you by playing their strengths against your weaknesses.

A Dawn can still cut down an elite soldier, but they can't also out-seduce a champion manipulator, and outhink a great philosopher -- at least not without blowing a bunch of motes on using their super-powers.

    A Twilight...

There aren't any mammals with gills was my thought process. Not that the ursidae are neccessarily mammals... it's just that... what are they then?

But I saw the What Are Animals sidebar and missed the Mutated Forms sidebar: checking out Mutated Forms, it's probably legit....

Cold blooded animals aren't typically renowned for being hot-blooded berserkers.

IRL, brown bears (grizzlys) are more aggressive than polar bears. I wouldn't give berserker to a black bear, unless Ferocious Cub Guardian also applied or something.

Also... don't Northern Ursidae have beserker? I don't own it but it looks like it's their first Merit on the PDF preview.

Also, also... are Northern Ursidae even animals? They're a third-again bigger than polar bears and have gills and webbed paws. I'm not sure they're valid for Lunars -- they sound like freaky mutants...

  • I think this is a good idea.

On Solar Occcut: letting a mortal exorcist see dematrialized spirts sounds okay. Spirit-Manifesting Word might even be okay.

I don't have a problem with mortals getting one "charm" (as something like a five dot merit, like Terrestrial Circle Sorcery), so long as Solars still get 15 Charms and Excellencies.

Yes, your mortal sea-captain knows Salty Dog Method. My Solar has Excellent Sail, knows Salty Dog Method and 14 other Charms....

    Round and round we go.

Sandact, I'm not telling you that you're playing the game wrong.
I'm not trying to get you to change the way you play the game.

Your homebrew is widely regarded. You have a good understanding of how Exalted does work. You have a clear vision of how Exalted should work.

I am notoriously bad at reading folk's emotional state from text, but you're telling me that you feel livid and that you don't want to continue this conversation.

You don't have anything to prove. I like you. If you don't want to discuss this then just...

Firedust isn't magical. I'd let a player make a firedust substitute with Craft: Alchemy. (I think Scroll of Kings offered another firedust substitute made of pine oil.)

I wouldn't let a player turn lead into gold (without Craft: Artifact or a Working). But I'd let them make Five Bounties Paste as a Major Project

I wouldn't let a player make a tincture that separated the good and evil parts of their soul (without Craft: Artifact or a Working). But I'd let them brew a tonic that let's them see ghosts as a Major Project.

I'd let them make a varnish that harderns...

See I wouldn't allow mundane (Basic/Major project) alchemy any transformations (outside of chemical reactions). It's a fancy name for "Craft: Pharmacology".

  • Craftsman Needs No Tools costs 6m for no tools and speed up.

CNNT is discounted 2m if you use tools.

Shaping Hand Style costs 6m for no tools or speed up. And is a Terrestrial Charm.

A Charm that just does no tools shouldn't cost the same as a Charm which does more.

I would put a Charm that added a non-Charm success (which isn't massive for Basic and Major projects) and no tools at 4m, not 6m. 3m if we made the Charm count as Exceptional Tools so it wouldn't stack if you did use tools.

I'm indifferent on the Mute keyword. If you're...

I'd be inclined to let "Craft: Alchemy" just be "Craft: Chemistry", and allow you to build alchemical wonders (like a Philospher's Stone) with "Craft: Artifact".

Except for the fact that you still literally can't use the Charm until Octavian takes an attack.

(But you're right, I'd misread your statement there.)

Compared to, what, the hyper fun of not being able to use the vast majority of antagonists?

At least there is a roller coaster of fun turns.

You notice how Metroid fusion uses an enemy you can't hurt to build tension? You do that in Exalted. You fall back. You Disengage. Enter stealth. You use situational bonuses (like poison, traps, onslaught).

Yes, you're right, you will immediately...

Jin: That's literally the longest I've ever heard Ganan talk for.

Ganan: Your kingdom? All I see is corpses and Cynis banners!

Melody: Ha! Reya’s sugar-baby is OLDER than you!

Melody: Wait... that means Oka is your uncle!?
    Ganan: No it doesn't.

Jin: It's okay, they can still bang.
Ganan: I have no interest in banging an Anathema.

FML, the only quotes I can remember are all either from my character or about my character....

I'm pretty sure that the Unintended Side Effect of your Water Breathing Working being that you have to drink a potion to turn it on for a scene is perfectly valid....

  • It seems like it's going to be too mechanically complex for me to use.

STing a game, I'm not going to be tracking three mote pools for my mortal NPCs plus Willpower.

But it seems like an interesting hack for mortal PCs, there's a lot you can hang off that.

    ****

I went the other way. Rolled Willpower and Essence together to make a single stat - Power. Gods, Exalted, Mortals, whatever, just has one Power Pool to spend from. The Exalted have a bigger pool, so their advantage is (like with your proposal) endurance.

    You lose a lot of...

"Once an enemy has attacked Octavian"

I mean, if you are straight-up going to cheat to try to kill the players, sure.

    "The Dawn full Excellencies Parry"

For 12. 12 is four higher than 8 (not two lower). Your cheat move even should have missed. Your math remains whack.

"He is then launched into the Steel Devil Dawn"

12 is higher than 11 too.

"I’ll assume each PC has three Resolve"

Why would you assume the social and mental primary characters have 3 Resolve? And, you...

Bro, you didn't make this thread and I didn't quote you into it. You came here to debate of your own accord. If you don't want to retread old ground... stop posting? Like, your point is made?

I haven't made a new point all thread -- I've just collected together my various offtopic tangents from other threads into this one (where I'm on topic).

The only new idea here is DLM's proposed Character Creation Houserule. (I'll get to that.)

Pretty much this. I agree with all of this. Now time to argue with DrLoveMonkey:

    Defence 7.
    Dawn attacks. Onslaught -1.
    Defence 6.
Dawn One Weapon Two Blows. Onslaught -2.
    Defence 5.
Dawn top of round attacks, decisive for 5 health levels. Onslaught -3, Wound Penalty -1.
    Defence 3.

3 Dex plus 3 Melee plus full excellency is 12 dice.

As I said, your math is whack.

And now consider the actual circumstances of play. Where one of you will be combat focused and the fact that Octavian is trying to fight you five on one.

    And you get something...

  • The Twice-Striking Lightning Prism (greater hearthstone, corebook page 605) let's you count your Essence score as 1 higher for the purpose of Charm calculations when supporting a Defining Intimacy.

I'd be okay with a drug that did that for a scene.
