Hope you're ready for your players to murder Ma-Ha-Suchi.

But I like the idea of an Armored Terror. Nothing like a 4 ton ocean fish in your river to ruin your day. Hull Crushing Chomp. Legendary Size. Impenatrable Armor. And Whirlpool Maw is the cherry on top. It's an animal which exists for the sole purpose of attacking PC ships.

River Dragon is a fine choice as well....

  • When you divorce the character from the mechanics you tend to get "then my Solar knocked put Superman in one punch"-level fanfic (or "and then my Dragon-Blooded really Exalted and became a Solar" fanfic).

I realise the mechanics are to balance a game, not to simulate a world, but if you're genuinely interested in exploring what a Solar can do then I can't recommend wilfully ignoring what a Solar can't do.

If, on the other hand, you just want to tell a cool story then this is good advice. And ultimately you're writing to put your cool ideas...

Well Bred does not have the prerequisite of "Dragon-Blooded".

An unExalted Dynast is still more likely to have Dragon-Blooded children than a Threshold peasant, and this is going to be borne out in marriage negotiations.

Of course, and unExalted Dynast is going to face a higher difficulty/additional penalties negotiating a marriage compared to an Exalt. But they should get the automatic success/bonus Resolve to represent their advantage over mortals with a poor pedigree (who'd face the penalty without the bonus of the Merit).

    Mnemon's unExalted...

Someone once had the idea of taking a long dead man who used to give to charity, making him fat and giving him a big white beard, sticking him in a jolly red suit and basing him in the most inhospitable location on Earth surrounded by wildly improbable mythical creatures.

The idea sounds dumb, but it's one of the most popular and iconic on Earth.

It's not the idea, it's how you use it.

We already have Shards of the Exalted Dream and The Time of Cascading Years. Absolutely you can riff off that. But what are you going to do with your homebrew world?...

They have an oddly idiosyncratic view of Exalted shaped by the failings of 2E. I don't like anything but the Mote Reactor Hack. (Especially handing out buckets of free Charms.)

The Mote Reactor Hack is... a good alternative way of handling Essence. I don't think it's better than the default way (whereby if you move beyond your personal power to draw magic from Creation you start to glow if you spend too much too fast), I don't think it properly accounts for differences between Solars and Deebs, I think it's looking to fix a 2E problem that 3E has already fixed. I'd nix the Willpower...

I think a mix of approaches.

Creation's bows just aren't that good.
A Round, despite what it says under Units of Time, is considerably longer than three seconds.
Everyone in Creation is just that awesome.

I've been with Exalted since the beginning. Forget the Golden Rule and the Orichalcum Rule: "Just Wing It" is basically the game's tag-line.

The fact that an 80 year old man crosses 3 Range Bands in 9 seconds and a woman on a horse also takes 9 seconds is explained by Pratchet.

In 2E speeds were a bit more realistic....

  • My bad on wording there: I just mean I can't answer your question.

Past Life can clue her in that sorcery exists, the Salinian Working exists as the perfect excuse for learning sorcery....

  • I don't want you to think that I'm not ignoring (you've got a great idea that really interests me), but it's so far out of my lived experience as a male presenting POC, I really can't comment constructively. So... I'm going to ignore that question. (Because as I said in my first post, I can only picture the cops shooting her at the scene of the car crash -- but that's my baggage and not helpful for your story.)...

  • Exaltation chooses exceptional people. Now "exceptional" is what you choose to do, not how many dots are on your sheet, but if we're talking about the one person in all the world who deserves to be Exalted by the Sun, a girl who studies medicine despite all odds and expectations, then this deserving and worthy mortal is probably not a 1-dot amature in her Supernal ability.

I don't know if you're familiar with the legal drama "Suits", but Mike Ross is a drug dealer who never went to law school who all happens to be the greatest lawyer of all time -- worth watching...

  • ... What?

You don't get a sudden pouring of information and skill on Exaltation.

You get Excellencies and other Charms. Your Ability scores don't change....

  • I don't know. Does it?

You're a Solar heavily invested in social abilities.

Timid, bumbling, mild mannered Clark Kent has the same fearless, front-line personality as Superman.

Kent, who faints and runs away from trouble to go get help, has the same apparent Intimacies as Superman?...

    Agreed.

I've bumped the two page thread where we discussed this last time. Can we please keep this to Qs & As?...

    Which spell?
    Which Edition?
    Which book?

My guess is "just the to-hit roll, not the damage roll". But that's just a guess....

  • Yeah. Vampire is a game of personal horror. It's about normal people grappling with the concequences of being an undead monster and trying to hold on to your humanity.

Exalted is a game of mythic fantasy. It's about being a hero of legend whose skills and deeds change the world.

They're completely different genres. "Assassin raised from birth by a demon cult to be the ultimate killing machine" is literally an iconic character in Exalted but it's a pretty terrible concept for Vampire.

If you were playing an RPG about Olympic Athletes, you'd have...

  • Vanquished Beast Tribute is very unbalanced.

It's a cool idea. But mechanically it's hugely one sided, doesn't fall within the established scheme of Solar survival and is well above the scope of comparable Charms.

I love the concept of hunting a great beast and making use of its body to create great weapons and tools. It's a great idea.

But I think your mechanics are overpowered....

Bear in mind, we had a long discussion about exactly this situation before, and you've ignored everything that was said to you by myself and others in that thread.

We're having this conversation now because you've discarded the opinion of everyone who has already addressed this with you at length. If you feel that's insulting then I'd ask you to show the same courtesy you're requesting.

I don't mean to insult you. When I say "you're wrong", I don't mean that your opinion doesn't have value -- your interpretation of the rules is every bit as valid as my own....
