I'm not getting bogged down in a debate about this, so please feel free to reply but I'm unlikely to respond.

Faka is an acrobat. She's a circus performer who wears a flowing costume. She's also a(n escaped) slave.

Her costume was picked to enhance her role as a performer by her master. And culturally it's the clothing she's grown up wearing.

It's not tight around the joints. It's lightweight. That's mobility.

It's loose because she's also a sneak thief who needs to distract guards and squirrel items away. Plus, you know, a slave performer....

I'm not aiming to convince you but you're saying Italians invented chain mail and giving three references:

Oriental Armour, H. Russell Robinson, 1967 Walker and Co., New York, pp. 11-12
Catalogue of the Exhibition of Ancient Helmets and Examples of Mail, William Burgess & Baron De Cosson
Stone, G.C. (1934): A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms And Armor in All Countries and in All Times, Dover Publications, New York

I'm not convinced that a book called "Oriental armor" has much to do with Tuscony.

    Except,...

I don't know where it's from but I read that in The Mentor's voice.

Looks fun. Not sure about how powerful these creations are. I like the idea of bolting armor directly to the undead though.

Etruscans used ringed lamella. That's not chain mail. The three cited referrences seem to refer to Japanese lamella. But I'm open to a secondary source here....

    Storm's Embrace - 5-dot Heavy Artifact Armor

Sometimes, during a fierce storm an elemental serpent of lightning and essence is born. These fiece creatures typically exist for but a short time burning brightly as unstoppable bolts from the blue whilst they do exist.

In the long forgotten time of the Second Deliberative, the artificer, Fiachu Ganan (renowned for both his wisdom and his subtlety), bound scales taken from these marvellous beasts with impossibly thin strands of soul-steel and rimmed each individual scale with black jade. Backing the scales on a skeleton of...

It's another brilliant write up of a tricky charm. Thanks very much.

One thing: stunting Auras. It's good roleplaying but it's unnecessary isn't it? Stunting your Balanced charms doesn't actually do anything, does it?

  • For me the great inspirations for Solars are (Dustin Hoffman's titular role) Hook, Saitama (One Punch Man), Light Yagami (Deathnote), Ozymandias (Watchmen) and Emperor Palpatine (Star Wars).

If you're not hitting notes of tragically overcompetent hero tinged with remorselessly efficient monster then you're not playing the same Exalted I am.

The Immaculate Order is correct. From a certain point of view.

  • Sorry. Every human citizen of The Culture is genetically enhanced with glands that give them concious control over their bodily functions like increasing adrenaline at will. They can also gland combat drugs and narcotics, the most iconic being Coolblue which is basically Sci-Fi THC. I'm a big Culture fan.

We'll be hearing about those famous glands next... Thought Horza bitterly.

"And those glands!" Kraiklyn carried on...

  • I pick it up and run with it. I like the idea of Solars becoming monsters.

For some groups it might be time to retire the characters and have the old PCs become the new BBEGs....

  • DBs don't have easy access to rerolling 1s. And with 15+ dice pools there's 1s in just about every roll. (Surprisingly few 6s but that's probably perception bias.) It's useful that you can declare it after seeing the roll meaning you can pump dex and hold off to see if you need the extra bump. Not so useful against Solars, of course. But being able to use it when on a higher initiative came up the one time I don't think I rolled a 1.

I really should have pumped Kitty's Dex on the Clash, but I was concious of how fast she was bleeding motes.

    Without the Prone penalties...

  • With the Forsaken safely digested, and his Essence restored Invi rides on. To see a cat. With a wooden claw. And the tough hide of a scarab. That can't be good.

    The Invincible vs Death Kitty

Raising his Goremaul in a rough salute, Invi goads Rexy towars the Kitty.
Moving with a practised ease, the lithe kitty with the heart of a scarab bursts forward to meet.

    Join Battle
    Invi: 19 dice for 6m. 2 dice stunt. Result 13. (14/18m) 1a.
    Rexy: 10 dice. Result 8.
    Kitty: 18 dice for 8m. 2 dice dex stunt. Result 11. (8/38m)

    Turn...

  • If you'd like to run it that's fine with me too. *shrug*

Be a bit of a hassle to play it out between us. But I'm game if you are -- probably best to make a new thread (Invi will start with a full Excellency join battle if you wanted to game it out).

How I normally run these is to dice out each roll twice. If the first roll is within 1SD, accept it, otherwise test if the second roll is within 2SD. If the second roll is within 1SD, use it instead. If the second roll is outside 1SD, but the first roll is inside 2SD then use the first roll, if the first roll is outside 2SD...

I love my gaming group and I have never resented them for not being willing to play Exalted... apart from when I read this thread.

  • Ooo I forgot about that.

That probably tips things closer to three rounds (purely from mote expenditure). I'm working late tonight but I'll probably stay up to run through this. It's an exciting prospect....

  • Oh yeah, Octavian.

I'm not saying you're wrong Count. The more I read page 173, the more I agree with you. But if you are right, how does Octavian's "The Tower Still Stands" work?

I can only make that charm make sense if my reading is correct. But I'm honestly open to hearing an alternative explaination....

  • Oh an optimised Celestial is going to turn Invi and Sword-fighter to red paste. As would the Ahlat or even Octavian (interesting thought on Octavian below).

    1) Invi's typical attacks only have an Accuracy of 19. Meaning she's only hitting a Defence of 9 just over half the time. 10 would be just under half the time (I'd run it through AnyDice to get exact figures but I'm posting from mobile ATM). For Volfer-level 9+ Defences, Invi is relying on stacking Onslaught and Prone penalties to land the Decisive. Now you specified Evasion, and Evasion takes a -2 when Prone, so 10 Evasion is...

I would say they don't count until you get the option of fixing them. If I get my arm chopped off then have to escape with a -3 penalty, then that penalty is part and parcel of my continued survival and not worth extra XP. If my Twilight then offers to replace my hand with a prosthetic, and I decline, then it becomes a Flaw that I can wither XP from....
