    It feels like the Lunar social influence stuff is weighted really heavily towards Instill attempts over the other social action types, and that hurts when you need Bargain or Persuade to actually get people to stuff rather than just feel stuff.

    What does Omen-Spawning Beast actually do? Its effect only triggers if "the Exalt has captured magic using Woe-Capturing Web" and lets you know the source of hostile magic, but that "captured magic" part only happens if you've already successfully guessed the source with Woe-Capturing Web! Am I missing something here?

    "Success lets them notice the Tell, or, if they’ve noticed it before in a different form, identify her as the same individual." So if that second roll is a success, yes, they know the person who came out of the bathroom is the same person as the pigeon.


    Per the devs, that's not an option.



    Nothing actually prevents you in the existing disguise rules from spending 5 minutes at a time until you coincidentally roll the maximum on all your dice, so I don't have any existing no-that's-stupid framework to lean on. Just making a static rating would...

    It's a clunky attempt at making a static-value-except-in-name, to try to avoid mechanical incompatibility with other stuff that would apply to rolls but not static values. It's probably not worth the hassle compared to making it a static value that just gets a dots-of-mutations-to-hide penalty, though....

    Tiny Creature and Miniscule Size are also referenced as merits in Appearance Charms, though we don't have any dot values for them.

    Beastfolk:
    Elephant: Boundless Endurance, Unnatural Hide 3. Excellent sentries.
    Hyena: Claws/Fangs, Iron Stomach, Natural Immunity, Unusual Hide 1. This should make for some incredibly hardy and self-sufficient scavengers.
    Trapdoor Spider: Ambidextrous 2, Hideous, Spinnerets. Good craftsmen, once you get past first impressions.

    War forms:
    Froppy: Prehensile Tongue, Wall Walking.
    Octopode: Chameleon, Extra Limbs....

  • This is a neat mechanic, though I don't think it really fits the actual inspiration all that well, since she didn't get that negative Intimacy until after the song. For that, I'd think maybe something where a performance sustains itself for some amount of time after the Lunar leaves, with the performance itself acting as social influence or a Psyche effect to keep anyone from noticing they're gone? Maybe pair that up with another Charm that turns a single performance into a full musical interlude, with the user's choice of whether it's phantasmagorical illusions or whether it just happens to draw...

    Here's my initial draft of a replacement mechanic for the Tell that uses carrot instead of stick, tries to get you to actively buy into it despite its downsides a la Infernals, and also acts as a built-in low-key mechanic for chimera weirdness at high Essence.

    Warp and Weft:

    When using this optional rule, reduce bonus points at character creation to 12 and remove the Tell (Lunars, p. XX), including the ability to associate a mutation with the Tell to apply it to all forms. Instead, at character creation or upon Exalting, a Lunar may choose to gain up to (Essence × 2)...

  • What's the actual difference between a permanent upgrade that adds an extra power with a cost, and a Supplemental that can only be used with a specific Charm, aside from the former being harder to parse on an initial read-through?


    There aren't any that I'm immediately aware of, and the precedent with the anima banner and the Mute keyword is for rules to care about motes per instant, not individual Charm activations....

    Possibly relevant to this thread is my own take on this kind of idea, for compare-and-contrast purposes. Here's my take on Archery, for instance. I went for a slightly more compressed and mechanistic feel, particularly with trying to codify variable costs and requirements to use Charms.

  • Most Permanent Charms with surcharges should just be Supplemental instead

    It's silly to keep around this bit of design that, as far as I can tell, only ever existed in the first place to get around the limits of 2e Combo rules.

    A simple example of this in practice is Numberless Blows Technique from the latest Lunars preview:



    Why not make it a Supplemental, given that it is, in fact, supplementing another action? It could easily be written like this:



    This would make it much easier to figure out which Charms are actually permanent effects, and which are instead activated powers that supplement another...
