    Graveyard Guardian Geists

What does the Guardian Geist at a graveyard actually do? My initial impression was that they guarded the Avernian Gate, but there are a couple of passages in the book that imply they may actually be defending the ghosts of the graveyard from Reapers. Has there been any discussion about this that may have mentioned something not in the book?

That’s cool. Yeah I’m running a Geist/Mage crossover game so I have the 2e .pdf. Sounds like I could probably just use the information from that....

Book of the Dead and 2e

So my players are probably going to the Underworld next session. I was thinking about studying up on the Underworld with the Book of the Dead but wanted to know how much has changed between editions before I commit to it. Anyone more familiar willing to explain what has changed?

  • How would a Bound/Sin Eater from Geist be brought along with Mages on a trip to the Astral Realms? Would it even be possible?

  • Are you able to get information from your memories in Astral space that there is no way you could have known at the time? For instance let's say there was an Artifact that was destroyed but you had held it when you were still a sleeper. Could you go into your memory of that moment and use Mage Sight on it even though that would give you information that you never actually learned at the time? I ask because its really a trip into the Soul as I understand it and perhaps it wouldn't work the way a recreation based only on memory would.

  • Thanks for elaborating. Now that I know the intent I can see it. Also, the books great and its only because all the player in my game are so into all the new options that the question even came up....

  • Yeah, It almost feels like it was intended to be available to items that were relinquished but there's an error or something.

The advantages are that you count more than one Arcanum in the pool and get the information about that Mystery that pertains to the additional Arcana at the cost of failed rolls raising the Opacity sooner.[/QUOTE]

So are you saying you would not be able to get all the deep information from a Mystery unless you're using all the Arcanum in your Mage Sight that are involved in the Mystery?

  • Just to make sure I’ve got this right, a Mage can reveal and scrutinize a mystery if any of the Arcanum involved are in their Mage sight? The advantage of using multiple ones is just increasing their dice pool? So if a Mystery is primarily Time magic but has a Space effect, a Mage could do everything they needed to do with Space?

  • If that’s the intent then how would that be usually used?...

  • Signs: clarifying imbue item clarifications

I wanted to make sure I’m understanding part of this right? What is the advantage of spending the double successes on a flexible reach when imbuing an item. It seems like it only works when you keep spell control of it, and further in the clarifications it says if you have spell control you can use the flexible reach without the success. Am I reading this wrong somehow?

  • From what I've been seeing, creating one of these big mysteries is about making a web out of lots of different mysteries with linked and locked connections. I also like the investigation rules being thrown in because sometimes figuring some aspects is going to be more nebulous than something you can just study. Boosting the Opacity might help, but its also an awful grind.

What about Arcanum? I guess with the new edition its a lot easier to just specialize in a couple than it was before?

What changed with the beat system that you see it that way. I know my players are very into raising their Gnosis and getting their highest Arcanum up to match....

    2E Mage Demographics

So I just came across this old breakdown from DaveB in another post and its got a lot of good advice. I did notice (as he mentions in it) that there are some differences from 1E, as it looks like you were able to become a master at Gnosis 3 and Legacies had higher Gnosis requirements. To any of you who are pretty familiar with the differences in the editions, what would you say would be the differences from this and how things are setup in the current edition? It seems like the Gnosis breakdown might remain relatively the same as higher Gnosis is now necesarry to get to Adept or Master level,...

A couple of long-term scrutiny questions

I'm thinking about implementing the optional Long-term Scrutiny rules from Signs of Sorcery in my game but I'm not sure how a couple of factors would interact with them:

    1. If you are normally limited in your Mana expenditure for Scrutiny to your per-turn limit, would this no longer apply if you increased the interval.

    2. If you use the long term Scrutiny, does it eliminate any downside to using multiple Arcana in your Scrutiny roll. I've actually always been a little vague on how that works anyway. But was thinking maybe using the multiple Arcana might be the factor...
