It’s good to have that as a reference. I had been wondering if perhaps there was a design intent to leave a weakness in Dodge but this indicates otherwise. Even if the developers have changed....

Agreed. When I was wondering about the implementation it wasn't so much about how to recreate that story as how the Meat God would work, why it would be impossible to fight it in any conventional manner, and how your players would ever get the the point of coming up with a solution like the one Fox did....

Yeah, so that’s probably the most disturbing thing I’ve read in rpg book and I agree it’s a great story. The end is pretty haunting.

I wonder how you’d implement that into a game mechanically....

Its one of the books I picked up lately. I read the advice chapter and some of the intruders but hadn't read the intro fiction. I'll have to do that. While we're on the subject, any other standout fiction in the previous books?...

Ugh, a big chunk of my post got deleted when I quoted. The idea I'm working with currently is that magic flung part of the building though the Abyss temporarily exposing it to those entities which infested several occupants. It also lead to the Awakening of the PCs as well as making almost everyone into Sleepwalkers. How exactly that happened is a Mystery that will attract other Awakened. Eventually they might try to repeat the incident. But the original incident should be the catalyst for some terrible Abyssal dominoes falling. I am planning to do some weird time loops and stuff in the...

I am really trying to figure out how I could incorporate a version of this idea into it. I'm just springboarding from the Nightmare on Hill Manor scenario that we used to learn the rules....

    Abyssal Neighbors

So I'm having a little ST block and could use some brainstorming help. So lets say you're a new Awakened and you recently watched a couple of your neighbors get taken by a Gulmoth or something from the Abyss like that. A few days later you see one of them at your local bar acting very oddly and of course you are suspicious because of what happened to them. So you follow your neighbor back to his apartment and use your magic to spy on him through the door. Inside you see the other neighbor who was taken and he seems really sick and might have some tentacles growing and collapsing back into...

  • Nimbus Tilts- Do they effect their maker?

Quick question: Do nimbus tilts effect the Mage they originate from? I’m inclined to think no, but wondering if there’s been an official answer as I haven’t found one so far.

Yeah, we already talked about it. I run a weekly game of Exalted myself and had just never noticed it myself because none of the characters focused on Dodge. Adding it in a new charm or an upgrade or something seemed reasonable to both of us, but at this time I'm just not sure about the details....

Also in my case I focused on Dodge and Archery thinking as a ability solely focused on defense it should be able to cover my bases as long as I had the essence. So my ability to parry is pretty lacking....

Do you seen undodgeable attacks as more powerful than unblockable attacks?...

  • That's pretty good imagery. I wonder what the Cabal breakdown of something like that would look and or if there would be more Solitaries....

Yeah, I was also in the playtest although we were focusing on the core rules and social charms. It was very unfortunate how that turned out. I guess I'd never noticed it before but it is surprising there is no way to remove undodgable effects with the Dodge tree as it seems like you should get the best defense for your investment with it....

Yeah I don’t know if those apply to attacks that are undodgeable. That would be great if they did though....

Quick question: If you’re a character whose focused on dodge charms, what do you when you’ve got a bunch of Death of Obsidian Butterflies coming at you? I might be missing something but I don’t see an effect that removes the quality like Heavenly Guardian Defense. Is there a charm I should be looking to get to close that defensive gap?

  • Low mage population cities and Consiliums

What’s a Consilium like if there’s just a couple of Cabals in a city?

In my new game I’m setting it in a small city that really hasn’t had much in the way of Mysteries for a long time. The characters Awakened after the events of Nightmare at Hill Manor and the way I’m framing it everyone in the upper floors got taken to the Abyss and then when they returned are either Sleepwalkers or Awakened. So there is a Mystery that will attract new Mages but at the moment there’s probably barely anyone there because the last big Mystery was solved back in the 50’s.

  • Well I’m definitely not limiting myself, but what happens if you have one or two successes on a paradox roll and with the penalty the spell fails? It doesn’t seem like there would be any anomalies to use since evnvirontment and Abyssal entities are higher than that. Am I missing something?...

    Spellcasting and Paradox penalties

So we're just getting into the post Awakening section of my new Mage game, and while reviewing the rules I just noticed that successful paradox dice end up as penalties for the spellcasting dice roll. I notice a lot of the paradox anomalies work off the spell actually going off so I was a little surprised by the fact that a lot of times it might just cause the spell to fail. For those of you running the game already, how does that usually come up in play? It seems like the paradox would be more interesting warping the spell than just fizzling it out....
