replied to The Realm Civil War: how does it happen?
    this could be very useful

one way I often present the civil war to my players is either via rumors of - or direct encounters with - one of the two following: (only used in 2.5 games mind you)

open warfare in the west, with various realm houses fighting for control of islands with critical iron mines. Naval battles with all the explosions and sorcery the local realm fleets can muster. Once the Denzik city ship reached the south, all of Creation learned of this.

Another example - which can be applied anywhere really - is the example of a realm legion...

  • Current game I'm ST'ing - its a 2.5 ed. game, with a few extra homebrew rules, set in the South. All 4 players are engineering students and had never played the game before.

4 alchemicals (my hapless players) each manage to take just about three steps out of their vats for the first time, when they get plot-zapped to Creation.

...cue trying to figure out what the hell is going on, because they don't have that many memories of Autochtonia, nor do they have much of a clue of how or what Creation is.

They meet some hesitant natives, turn them into friendly natives...

    Weather omens?

You mean to say: the local weather-controlling elementals have been assigned by a sid to lure someone into doing something specific?...

I know - but if its one fair folk cataphract and four alchemicals who are also entirely outside of fate, who have actively been building stuff and blowing loads of essence on all kinds of things, then the fate errors were bound to start showing up......

    Fate errors for non-creation visitors?

One thing I've always had issues with is the notion of fate errors

I love the concept - that reality slowly unravels and falls apart when something not part of Creation's reality comes and interferes with things - but for the love of it I just find coming up with actual examples of it rather tricky

The few I usually end up thinking on is stuff like water suddenly not being wet, or water not 'reforming' after a fair folk courtier stepped in a puddle.

I just need some more examples. my players have mind-controlled a fair folk cataphract to be their pet/minion...

  • I am 100% stealing this for any kind of non-violent encounter with beastfolk - this is brilliant

and Noodle's idea of purely carnivorous beastfolk being a challenge to vegetarian player characters - love it....
