Honestly, Lucy, this holier-than-thou attitude is tiresome. One can can take five minutes on rpg.net to see independent developers engaging with their fans, and handling criticism with grace and effective communication. There are also plenty of OPP devs in other lines who participate in the forums with similar competency. Hell, I emailed John Wick (not a small studio) about a typo in one of his products and HE replied to my email. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I had a random question about my game from Sine Nomine, and I heard back in less than 24 hours. if the Exalted devs aren't...

  • I read a book about writing novels once, and one piece of it stuck with me. It advised to combine characters and setting elements where possible. If the story has a protagonist, a best friend, and a local sorcerer who is feared by the townsfolk, the story becomes more interesting when the best friend IS the sorcerer.

I apply this rule liberally to every element of the games I run. If the story affords me an opportunity to expand an existing locale, I take it. Travel is still possible and advisable; I just have three or four locations that I'm continually embroidering with bits...

Definitely. Any ruler (particularly a mortal) worth their salt will have made their survival important to the region....

I can't quote the forum rules chapter and verse. However, charm rewrites that effectively convey the text have been flying around with no consequence for some time, as have various "cheat sheets."

Hypothetically, if I had built something like that for my own personal use, and wanted clarification if I could share it, I would ask a forum moderator in a PM....

90% of everything includes 90% of the crops and food animals. Also, Ex3 has quashed the notion of easy access to magic by mortals, and the idea of the "nearly First Age" Shogunate.

So, the average survivor of the Contagion/Crusade saw almost everything die, saw the Fae kill almost everything left, and suddenly they are alive in a wasteland of rotting dead things. That poor guy isn't grabbing a skysled and hitting up Whole Foods. If he's smart, he finds a sword and starts looking for something to kill....

This reminds me of similar problems people have expressed about Vampire. The Revised ST's Guide made a good point about immortal bloodsuckers liking to live.

Your average Vampire, \ wants to live forever. They aren't going to go around challenging other powerful Vampires to cage matches. However, one particularly aggressive Vampire who starts gobbling up territory/expanding his power base too fast will quickly find other power players unite against him. This applies to (smart) Exalts as well.

Sure, the Solar assassin can take out mortal rulers relatively easily. ...

I doubt there would be as much idle shenanigans post Contagion/Crusade as there are in your show, or in similar media (such as The Stand). The Contagion killed 90% of everything, not just people, and Creation isn't loaded with big box stores and such to supply people with necessities. Additionally, there were still pockets of Fae activity, and of course Creation's culture in general is more violent and less civil.

All I imagine is those survivors doing anything and everything they can to survive. Maybe some of them took a moment to defecate on the statue of their prefect, but most...

The Empress was definitely in a unique position for a new ruler. She had absolute power over life and death on the Isle, but had no mechanism of governance. It makes sense that she would begin taking consorts and doling out favors almost immediately to secure her holdings. Simply holding a gun to everyone's head just isn't an effective method of rulership.

If Ejava, for example, were to come into power, it would be at the head of an army, with a set of political and financial backers. That coalition would almost certainly include most of House Tepet, but it would not be merely...

I always imagined that by the time the Usurpation came around, almost all of the actual governance of Creation was done by the Blood of the Dragon. After the Usurpation and the somewhat cataclysmic aftermath, the Dragon-Blooded would just continue the existing structure, and the political struggle would be in unifying those same provinces into a central government.

The political struggle of course gives way to sporadic cold and hot wars, which increase in severity and duration as the Shogunate itself wears on....

An astute, post-Empress ruler of the Realm may see de-emphasizing the Houses as a way to avoid revolution. I certainly would. The question then becomes what replaces the Houses as the primary political organizing principle, and how does one encourage "appropriate" breeding that leads to properly indoctrinated DB children....

  • Allowing Essence to go past 6 is not 100% a bad thing. Some PCs may want a higher Essence pool, and a higher Essence pool allows NPCs like Chejop to be more viable against a small Circle of Solars on his own (or with a small BG). It's when Elders rock passive pools 4 or more dice higher that opposition just isn't credible.

I think the Liminal dice cap is written with the assumption that the "penalty" for anima flare on their part is significant, and overall their dice tricks will be less generous.

It's also possible when Liminals finally roll around their...

Snake Style is a good example in that regard.

Snake Form imposes a -1/-3 penalty on attack rolls, which is pretty solid, AND adds Dexterity to soak.
Essence Fangs and Scales Technique adds Essence to soak on top of that.

Somebody rocking that with zero mobility penalty heavy armor is going to be a huge PITA to damage, and it's passive once it's running. And then of course Invulnerable Skin of Bronze can stack on that, and it doesn't even have commitment.

I'm not saying it's super broken, or that it's impossible to achieve that level of defensive capability...

  • IIRC, the devs made clear that base stats should not go above 5. The math curves simply melt past a certain point. If Chejop is rocking a natural 17 dice for this MA stuff, it's not plausible that he can be defeated by 'normal' Solars, and that outcome is explicitly desirable. Part of the point of Ex3 was to make sure no Exalt was effectively unstoppable. That restrains some of the more mind-bending scenarios and absurdities the setting otherwise produces.

High Essence Exalts can have unique, powerful high-Essence charms, but their base pools are the same as everyone else. Chejop...
