Man, I can't believe I forgot the Shinigami (Abyssals) as the Goth Kids!
The Mugen would confront each group, eventually befriending and uniting them against the Principal in a massive dance-battle!

    Come to think of it...

    There's your Circle!...

    Looking forward to hearing more!

On a more general note, what are some ways Solars might get tumbled deep in Imperial territory? Unless they're actively using Essence/Charms, Solars are basically just normal mortals. Their chances of evading capture or even notice are pretty good, esp with Stealth and/or Socialize Charms. There are powers that detect even subtle charm use, but (at least in prior editions) the DB version of that only works by touch, so unless they happen to be using it when they just happen to bump into a Solar...The Sidereal version lets them literally *hear* Essence...

Yeah, maybe I'm just overthinking this. And I did get some Likes! Thanks to those who took the time and effort to leave them, I don't mean to sound ungrateful! I dunno, maybe I should just get more sleep......

    THE PROCESSION OF BLASPHEMIES

Of all things constant in Malfeas, these are paramount: The Law of Cecelyne, the use of sound to keep away the Silent Wind, and the hatred of their jailers. But Calibration is a topsy-turvy time, even amongst Demons. It starts with a change in the unending din; not a lull, as no one dares risk Adorjan visiting them, but the music-making shifts to a minor key and a lower pitch and slower tempo as it turns into a communal song of remembrance, of a time of freedom long past, and grief on behalf of the Yozis they spring from.

    But this somber...

Huh, nothing?...Don't know how to feel about that. Kinda hard to know how I'm doing in a vacuum. I'm seeing lots of views, but no Likes, which are really easy to leave. Maybe I actually suck at this, but no one has the heart to tell me? Now I'm just depressing myself again.

    Well, shuffling onward...

Well, I'm done with Erembour (unless you guys want to see what the original version of her Messenger Soul was like!); but before moving on, I'm curious to know what you guys thought, so I'm requesting feedback, as that will help me both as a creator of content in general and Exalted in particular. Who was your favorite here, and which did you like the least, and why? Were they too weird, just the right amount of weird or not weird enough? Any particular ideas or images leap out at you, or ones you'd prefer deleted?

Oh, and while I'm pretty sure I've got enough material to last the...

    VARVARA, THE THIEF-IN-THE-NIGHT

Since the Solars fell, there has been no one to summon Erembour to Creation after the First Age; however, her doleful music still drifts between worlds when the wall between them is thin enough, and it was during one such Calibration that her sorrowful strains swept out across the moon-drenched dunes of the South, where it was heard by a small tribe of Dune People, who were quickly touched and transformed by her song...all save one. A young girl, who had not even killed her first outsider yet, was enraptured with the ethereal music and...

RHADAMANTHUS, CARETAKER OF THE GARDENS OF REMINISCENCE

Some still tell the tale of how Erembour's Warden Soul fell in love with a mortal, who inadvertently brought about its destruction. In penance, that mortal volunteered to take its' place, and, using means best forgotten, she invested him with her own nature, turning him into a demon and elevating him into a state wherein she could incorporate him into her soul family, whereupon he erected a massive monument to his predecessor, around which many more were to follow. If this story is true, he speaks of it not, perhaps having laid...

    MEHEN, THE WHISPERING COILS

The Wisdom Soul of That Which Calls to the Shadows, Mehen is a massive, ten-yard long albino snake/centipede creature with shifting black markings on his scale-segments that spell out arcane texts as he slithers. One of the most intelligent and well-learned demons in Malfeas, he has gained great renown as one of the foremost scholars and doctors in hell (so much so that many demons marvel that he has not yet felt the touch of Orabilis), and his services are constantly in demand for demons suffering from a variety of Essence-based spiritual maladies. It...

    How do Demon's Souls work?

(First person to reply "Very well, thank you" gets a session with Painbot!)

This popped up in a couple of threads, so let's discuss it here: How, exactly, do Third and Second Circle Demon's soul hierarchy work? The books say that the Warden, Indulgent, Defining, Messenger, Expressive, Reflective and Wisdom souls embody the Third Circle Demon's abilities to "protect, gratify, define, communicate, express, reflect or understand its own essential nature".

Do you think these should be hard and fast roles the 2Cs conform to? I get most of them, but "gratify"...

Um, Games of Divinity absolutely lists those Soul roles as titles in each write-up of all of its Second Circle Demons...Unless you mean something else?

Yeah, Ber--Berenstein---Y'know what, I'm just gonna call her "Berniece". Seriously, tho, the text talks about how Ligier commanded her to watch over a slain Fetich's tomb, and how much she hates the job, so much that she gratefully leaps at any summonings as a chance to get away from it. Not sure how that says "indulgent", but I'm willing to learn!

In fact, this issue of demon's...

Weeell, as I was trying to get across in the "Ask a Question" thread, I think there are enough examples of both concrete and abstract thematic connections (as well as apparently NO connections at all!) to say that there's no one way to get it *right*. If you're happy with your demon as it, then don't fix what ain't broken!

(For ex, while Mara and Alveua have strong associations with darkness, like their "mother", Makarios not only doesn't, but has a strong association with *rainbows* of all things! And while he and Mara have a strong connection with dreams, Alveua...

Roll of Glorious Divinity II, page 46, briefly talks about the Warden, Indulgent, Defining, Messenger, Expressive, Reflective and Wisdom souls, which embody the Third Circle Demon's abilities to "protect, gratify, define, communicate, express, reflect or understand its own essential nature". It doesn't go much more into it than that, and several souls don't really seem to fit these roles, at least not in any straightforward way. In at least one case, Ligier has his Indulgent soul take up a permanent task of guarding a place that she's not really suited for and resents; this would seem...

Well, "technically", Mara is a Succubus, which is where I think all the "dream" imagery from her came from, so she's more Morrigan, if anything. Succubi and vampires are close cousins, of course, which is where the "romantic conquest rivalry" angle came from!

Of course, you're also right in that there are many possible ways to throw Drac in the setting...he'd also be right at home as a Fair Folk, for example!...

I'll be honest, here...sometimes, I'm not so good with the "abstract, reading between the lines" type of thing! That's one of the things that fascinates me so much about Jenna Moran's writing and ideas, she has this Strange angle she comes at her material...and she makes it look so effortless!

Well, that's just how her brain works, and no one else can do it quite like her. But that's one of the reasons I'm challenging myself to push past my normal way of seeing things, and to try to capture some of that exotic weirdness she put into Exalted's demons. Obviously, I can't write...

One of the big missed opportunities of late 2E was that some MA styles had not only been written, but had even been playtested, but were never published. I kept hoping we'd get them on Ink Monkeys, but they kept saying things like how there might still be a place for them somewhere, somewhen, so they just preferred to sit on them.

One of them was Valorous Mouse Style, if I recall correctly, and I think it may have taken inspiration from the Mice of the Sun. The other was Celestial Peacock Style, which was apparently a Social-heavy style, as one playtester described it as making the...

    VRYKOLAKA, THE TENEBROUS SERENADE

Vrykolaka is the Indulgent Soul of That Which Calls to the Shadows. He appears as a tall, incredibly alluring man, with imperious, aristocratic looks and manner, swathed in the richest fabrics of the most tasteful cut, and drenched in a heady cologne that masks the one flaw in his vanity, a rank odor of musk and blood. What appears to be a cloak are actually large bat-like wings normally at rest and his ears are tapered and tufted like a bats'. His fingernails are solid jet, but ripple like dark pools; those who look into them see themselves lost...
