  • Versatile and immensely useful, but expensive for a ghoul.

"Height, build, voice, facial features, and skin tone, among other things," is what the fluff describes, so I'm going to assume that the spirit of it is more than just individual body parts, but I can see an ST making it a hefty expense. Let's not forget that unless you take the merit "Promethean Clay" (which I don't even know if Ghouls can take) then you have to sculpt the changes by hand. Still, you can eventually make yourself look different. Height change, skin color, etc. Commit a crime...

Though I do wonder (from a storytelling perspective) why each clan has exactly three disciplines and why so many clans don't have more. It's nice from a balance perspective, but balance and White Wolf is like strawberry jam on a cheese pizza. It just doesn't work. Ignoring that, however, I still get from a meta POV why each clan has three, but not from in-universe.

  • All I'm saying is that what you believe in the moment—not what anyone else believes or thinks or how the passage of time has changed things—is all that matters in terms of how guilty you personally feel, and how the addition of superpowers can sway you to betray or contradict your currently held beliefs. I don't steal from people, but if I was able to live for centuries and rewrite/delete memories, make you ignore me, make you "donate" to me, I might be sufficiently more inclined to do so if I can justify it somehow and conditions in my unlife are just right. That's what I mean....

  • While I've disagreed with other parts in this thread, this I actually agree with quite a bit. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and being given even just the first few dots of a few Disciplines would be tempting to misuse under many circumstances. One would need to possess a strong moral compass and iron will. A happy helping of a guilty conscience wouldn't hurt either.

  • Golem Form: (Vicissitude 5 + Protean 3)

You meld into the dirt, your essence subsumed like any typical earth melding, but then the soil that you've become one with springs to life as if you were in Blood Form, allowing you to rise and walk as a near impervious golem. Staking you is an impossibility and decapitation is a mere inconvenience at worst, but even better, you may now interact with physical objects unlike in Blood, Mist, or Tenebrous Form, and you may move through dirt as if it were nothing. A Masquerade breach to be sure, but sometimes it is better to appear like a different,...

  • Dominate 1 (especially if you can speak a short sentence rather than a single word) is killer as a level 1 power, but my money is on Obtenebration 1 as the best level 1 power. The only downside is that it uses blood and ghouls don't have much to be burning through, right? Since Dominate 1 doesn't use blood, it is the winner for a ghoul. Just make sure you pick how Dominate works early on and stick with it. Some STs give it more flexibility than it already has RAW and I've heard stories about people getting away with all sorts of silly antics, like basically just telling people to die.

  • That's not even remotely the same thing and I'm frankly tired of people using that argument. We accept that physics work differently for the sake of superpowers, but humans shouldn't behave in irrational ways or act oblivious to things happening right in front of them. When I criticize something in, say, The X-Files, it's Scully seemingly having nonstop selective amnesia and persistent denial syndrome, not the fact that supernatural things are happening despite what science says.

"If these stories do it, it must mean you're okay with it happening in V:tM."...

  • That's my biggest problem with the setting. It's trying to burn the candle at both ends. If "everything is basically the same" then, well, the Masquerade is going to break into a million pieces due to the insanely large number of supernaturals and crimes committed by them. That goes for vampires, ghosts, werewolves, mages, and a whole host of other bizarre entities. If the world in World of Darkness is supposed to be far worse and more miserable, with strange forces compelling people to be so oblivious to the presence of the supernatural, with rape, torture, death and misery all around...

What would Fortitude be based off of? Protean? Necromancy? Obeah/Valeran? I personally don't like this angle since the physical disciplines have always come across as the most basic, natural extension of physical functions. Then again, the Celerity I use is less about speed and more about all forms of motion and agility, but that's just trading one physical element for a more generalized one....

  • Players Guide to High Clans, page 162-163. Transcend the Flesh, a level 7 Vicissitude power states in this snippet:

Meanwhile, Protean's own level 7 power "Spectral Body" is honestly far better. It lets you remain completely as a "ghost", all your items on you, allowing you to walk through anything including the ground, floating in the air, etc. I think even fire doesn't hurt nearly as bad while in this state.

Next is the fact that the first three powers are about your body, your skin, your meat, your bones. It would take quite a leap...

  • Clothes change with you, otherwise you'd have all sorts of issues with earth melding. Vicissitude, by contrast, specifically points out that things like Blood Form or Transcend the Flesh leave you naked, but Protean doesn't have this issue....

  • Your most imbalanced chronicles?

I've been reading through other threads and I've begun wondering what some of the most imbalanced chronicles you've been party to were. Be it from each player having wildly different ages, positions of power, resources, generations or other circumstances. What was your experience like? Are they all bad or have there been some surprisingly good stories that have come out of them?

  • A recently sired Shovelhead had survived and was rescued by a Brujah. After getting a quick and clunky rundown of how things work in a Camarilla city, he was sent out on a mission to prove his loyalty to the sect — the new Prince and other elders of the city expressed doubts of his loyalty and some even speculated that he was a spy. Once he made it to his destination, he knew to look for a vampire or that they'd recognize him, either way, and he'd conduct his business.

Here sits this guy in the bar way off in the dark corner, silver eyes, wearing a flippin' cape and suit and with...

Not that I'm agreeing or disagreeing with anything in this thread overall—mostly because I don't play as or use True Brujah at all in my games—but if we're going to use arguments like "disruptive players will use them to be disruptive" then Malkavians should have gotten axed a looong time ago. A player that wants to be a horse's ass will be a horse's ass, regardless of which breeds are banned or allowed in the game. Your job as a player is to be responsible and not impede the fun of others at the table and your job as GM is to put a tight leash on troublesome players or outright boot...

  • Precisely. How long it lasts before needing more dirt various. Haven't gotten it down to an exact science yet. Playing with the idea, it could be any dirt that was disturbed in order to bury someone or some (once living) thing. Making it harder, it has to be soil that was semi-recently dug up, perhaps no longer than a year ago. Maybe the fresher the grave, the longer it lasts. This could certainly add to the old tales of the dead coming back within a few nights of being buried, feeding the superstitions. People think their dead fathers, mothers, siblings, etc. are rising from their graves when...

  • A fun tweak I go for is that it must be grave dirt rather than native soil. Doesn't need to be any specific grave dirt, just that it was buried over a dead person. After some time, this dirt might require "freshening up", which means you'll need to swipe more at some point. The mental image of a Tzimisce's ghoul servants out in a Transylvanian cemetery, disturbing graves to acquire their master's necessary mounds of burial dirt is delightful....
