I would argue that if you do remove the literal human part of the equation the character in question would clearly be on a path.
Though I don't see characters who view and value humans as (much as) zombies on humanity, let alone on high humanity. The claim occurs to me rather as an idolization of sociopathy....

I don't see the touchstone system as a system to model a personality, morality or a society or a statement abot in which situations or conditions a characters thrives. The latter is something rather described with nature and demenear or vice and virtue. I see it rather as a connection to humanity for a creature that due to its state of being isn't human. I don't see how a place or an abstract concept would achieve that.

In regards of the presentation, in the playtest as well as within requiem you don't have to be around your touchstones.
    The alpha playtest...

    replied to So should I pre-order V5?
    I can understand the sentiment.
Though I do doubt that the concept of a "non-influenced buyer" exist.
Those who bought the product are influenced by the expense they made.

You might as well take into consideration that everyone who is writing a review is under the influence of their expectations of the product prior to the purchase, personal interpretation and taste regarding the game as well as their personal motivation to bring their thoughts down to writing....

From my understanding said kindred does require a connection to a human (V5 alpha) or humanity (V4 and previous).
Having one or several touchstones might be a better explanation how the bastard managed to be a bastard than the previous system.

With the previous system a 300+ old kindred couldn't dispose of, torture, kill humans at will.
At least not as long as they want to have a humanity above 3 or 2.
With the system proposed in the alpha 300+ old kindred can dispose of and kill humans at will.
They just have to care about three humans that they don't want/can...

I don't see how an approach, in regards to the Hunger circle, in which they say:
"It has always been like this, but wasn't addressed.
The focus of the stories have had been placed differently, the characters just didn't mention it or weren't busy with it."
Would invalidate the canon as is.
You could continue to either write stories within the setting as it has been before.
You could as well write stories that does take newly introduced elements into account.

Next to the aspect that there had been bigger changes. Like when the setting went from...

I don't think it is a good example.
D&D looks and plays quite differently between all editions.
There are significant shifts between 1E edition and 3E edition, between 3E and 3.5E and between 3E and 5E.
The only difference that 4E makes was that there has been a more significant uproar to the changes.

Thus if going for a comparison I would state that V5 appears quite normal in the line, like the D&D edition changes without 4E and that if there is a comparison to the WoD 4E would be more of an equivalent to the new World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness...

Given that D&D changed quite a lot (*) I would sense a notion of sarcasm in the statement.

(*) Alignment changed from law/neutrality/chaos to a two dimensional thing and got somewhat downplayed in D&D 5E
The first edition has had quite a different concept of races and classes, which weren't as distinct
Things like the monk weren't in first edition and multi-classing changed a bit.
The recent edition doesn't let you play an oathbreaker Paladin from the PHB get go.
They got story gamey stuff like the advantage system.
    The feat-stuff came and went...

What if they haven't got the Sabbat in it as a faction, but a system that allows for a more complex on humanity than the alpha edition had which explicitly stated that the humanity part of it was under extra-scrutiny? Mind Blown

    In regards of other remarks...

I would point out that up till third edition all humans are on humanity and not a path.
Which includes serial killers and people who claim to follow different philosophies. As stated in the sourcebook Mafia.

You are as well quite challenged to create a freshly created kindred character with...

There's no real argument for it safe from to have it kinda out of the system.
Though with a store I'd likely would try to make sure they'll get it ^^;...

Hence why I recommend trying to get your FLGS shop to pre-order the books, maybe have some reserved for you along with it.
Modiphius has a program directed at retailers and should be able to offer those more reasonable prizes in regards of the books and shipping.
If this isn't an option you might like to check if you can do a pre-order at an online shop who pre-orders. Spheremaster Games has most of the book and does offer a somewhat lower (still somewhat expensive) shipping to the US....

The system in the playtest had it that you could still either ask for rolls for inhumane acts or straight up deduct humanity if someone is going to outright murder people for personal gain.

In regards of the dice pool system, it is very likely that you have to roll under or above a variable number.
Like, if they do that they would need dice with a different design than the current one.

As for the Sabbat, I would say they are more the "left to be the horror from the dark [for now]"-faction.
If they were extinct the upcoming third sourcebook would...

The humanity had, if I remember correctly, some explicite statement that it was a work in progress.Beyond even being in an alpha playtest.
Though given the setup I would imagine that it might be possible to shift touchstones from humans to either objects or imperative acts of actions/morality concepts.

Difficult to answer as we only got the pre-alpha and alpha.
There will likely quite some changes for the next look at the rules and the final things

Well, anyways, I did wrote an extensive blog article about the pre-order for the 5th edition of Vampire: The Masquerade.
Like to explain and show what one can get, offer advice and answer potential questions I've seen posed multiple times on the webs or thought would be good, valid questions one might have.

You'll find the blog article here: Pre-Order the 5th edition of Vampire: The Masquerade

I am personally intrigued by the setting as they described it and think that the announcements in regards of mechanics (Hunger Circle, Loresheets, The Memoriam) are intriguing.
In regards of the price tag, unless you go for whistle and bells, I do personally consider it quite affordable.
In regards of a comparing it to other products, it is for example more affordable than D&D 5E.

In regards of the V5 I ran both playtests several times and had a mostly good time.

Next to my personal fandom in regards of VtM, which lead me to drop a vast amount of money...

  • Given the description of the V5 Deluxe Edition I do expect as much.
Considering that it mentions "marbled faux leather cover" and a "red foil print" I have hope that it might even be a bit more impressive.

Given the price tag and as proven by the pictures of how it will be made I don't think the Ultra Deluxe editions of Onyx Path do measure up.
If I put down as much money for a book down as I did, I personally expect more than just a metal plate or just a scratched cover.
Though thanks to my experience with the V20 Companion and the game...

  • In regards to the luxurious edition, White Wolf did a Facebook Album post in which they feature some picture of how it will be made.
I personally got one of the 500 based on just the mock-up. Well, and consider these pictures it was quite the right choice:

None of my Onyx Path Deluxe editions looks like they are done like that.
(Well, and I try not to think what I got for dropping $500 at the V20 Companion from Onyx Paths first product/kickstarter)...

  • I personally got confused for a moment when first seeing the mockup-artworks for the new edition.
The reason for that was because they differed from my expectations. Thus I approach them with time and consideration [1] and I do actually like them and find them befitting.

The design is of quite a good quality and it is unique when I consider my three bookshelfs of tabletop rpgs.
It should stand out as the original cover did back when it is done, and it is pleasant to the eye. I don't think it enforces a certain style of play but does communicate the vampire theme. In regards...
