It seems Dark Streets has been released.

It stems from the same root etymologically. From Wikipedia:

During the 1500s, the word "gymnasium" started to be used in Germany to refer to schools giving education that prepared for university, which is how it's used in Sweden today. Later, however, we also imported the English meaning in the shortened form "gym", so when someone says "jag går till gymmet" (I'm going to the gym), they do mean they're going to perform physical exercise, not that they're off to school.

Although, "gym" doesn't mean quite the same thing...

Huh, I never posted here, it seems.

Hi. I'm Weimann. I'm a very-soon-to-be thirty-something from Sweden, where I teach Swedish (to native speakers) and English (as a second language) on the Swedish equivalent of high school level (which for reference is called "gymnasium", much to the confusion of English-speakers).

I've been into Exalted since... sometime after Infernals and before Ink Monkeys? Like many, I love the setting, but I've had very little opportunity to actually play the game. My goal now is to get something going once Terrestrials 3e hits, by force...

  • I don't know where your friend lives, but I haven't gotten mine yet either, so they're not alone. Then again, I'm in Sweden, so I'll probably be among the last to get mine....

  • I've been starting to regret that I had pitched in so much on the Kickstarter. I'm overall not a stickler for physical books when it comes to RPGs, and I think I spent at least $300, not even for a gold deluxe edition. I'm now in a position where that money would have been welcome. Seeing how these packs turn out soothes me a little, at least. I'm kind of hype.

  • I've not gotten mine yet, but I imagine it's for the Blessed Isle and Terrestrials books.

Yeah, it's nice that "use any reasonable power" is just a single basic move, for exampe....

replied to Games where the Solar Exalted are not needed
Strictly speaking if you're asking about the actual played games, the individual chronicles, then there's a clear answer, and it's that Solars aren't required for the game at all. It's wholly possible to not touch on the world-ending threats at all and have a completely satisfying game experience.

When it comes to the story of the setting in itself, it's less clear. I'd argue that PCs playing different types of Exalts could be able to "save the world" (for some meaning of that phrase) without Solars present, but not to the same outcome as if Solars had been present.

I've now given Urban Shadows a first read, and I'm excited. There seems to be a few more knobs to twist when it comes to mechanical player choices than is usually the case with Apocalypse World Engine mechanics, which appeals to me. The idea of having two different progression systems with different implications is also interesting. I feel like it takes some significant strides in shaping the PbtA mechanics for the future.

Tangentially related, I just now came across another Kickstarter where the same author is involved. It's about a group of female soldiers fighting an invading darkness...

I always eat the edges of flat bread dishes (like sandwiches and pizzas) first, and I sometimes go in a spiral in towards the middle after that.

Oh, nice. Gonna check this one out. Thanks for the tip.

Edit: Shit. Have you ever been in that situation when you were going to buy an RPG and bought four?

    *sigh* I have a problem.
