  • As a Mentor a Question, Get a Watsonian Answer

I hope this was a good idea! It occurred to me that a lot of the debates and questions on this forum tend to be Doylist and need Doylist answers, answers useful for acting as the Storyteller or knowing how stuff works independent of Mages hang-ups. Just a few things I've seen around here is the Duat/Lower Depth topic, the topic of how Quiescence should or shouldn't activate when trying to use magic in public, and things of that sort. Mage players have a vested interest in knowing how stuff works to make our games internally consistent, and faithful to the books.

    But the Mages themselves...

  • I am so happy for the edit cuz I am an emphatic believer that being special or unique doesn't make a mary sue, but rather that being strange or special is a huuuge double-edged sword!! The exception to the rule? Sure, but being obsessed over by Aletheans as the drawback? That's just more drama hooks !! ...

I thought in 1E Mage, Time Travel cannot be used to bring people back from the dead, but I guess that isn't the case in 2E? So how that interacts with souls is also a query of mine but I've held back on asking it for one reason or another. So I guess now I'd ask the same thing regarding this topic, since how souls interact with Time Travel is important for more than just Tremere double-dipping.

Letting the tilt effect the Mage is transitory *anyway* right? So its not that broken if people want it for mechanical "cool factor", and honestly I avoid nimbus tilts cuz they make everything fiddly so I go light on their mechanics when they come up. So its probably a good "table-to-table" kinda thing to worry about, and again that custom prime spell solves everyones problem!

As for lore and fluff? I'm guessing it is because it would be silly for a Mage's magical aura to "overwhelm herself" which is what the Tilt *is*?

    You could also homerule...

  • Absolutely. Any topic that the table wants to do as a group is their business, they can play a game *about* religion and revelations abound....

  • I haven't read this whole thing cuz it looks like its turning into a project, so, I'll just toss my two bits in *blindly*.

My advice is that, if you have ANY MAGE CONTENT... consider The Exarchs. Particularly The Father. Now keep in mind The Father's obsession is the tyranny of dogma and religious authority. This means The Father has a huge stake in this. So does the Prophet, Exarch of Time.

Words of Truth and Time magic should not work in regards to anything to do with Jesus or other sensitive topics regarding other people's major beliefs... not just because that's good...

  • Yes, I remember the 2E point, which was something I found super exciting! So SoS retconning that was quite disappointing... but I also respect the vision for Mage that the team of the time had. I'd be willing to bet its because of how supernatural merits are refunded as arcane xp, but I'd have to mull on it more to get an actual explanation going instead of just pattern recognition

Riiight! That was it, yes, thanks, I couldn't go look at Werewolf 2E just now, so thanks so much! I knew it was a dice roll *at best* so, not good odds!...

Wow this topic sure has been inspiring! And I think what Mrmdubois is saying is that, you can use the Nimbus Tilt as designed in the book, but how you describe the effects in the narrative is something we can get creative with. Like if the Tilt inflicts the victim with a -2 to composure, we can choose to say that the Tilt manifests because they have a really scary nimbus that shakes the victim up, lowering their composure... OOOR, we can say that the Tilt is because the Mage is ludicrously sexy, so it makes the victim get butterflies in their stomach, and lowers their composure that way. So in...

  • I like the way you think nofather, such wonderful evil ideas!

And about the sleepwalkers, whether wolf-blooded are inhuman enough for us? Sorta doesn't matter, they're human enough for the Watchtowers! But, I forget if you can *cause* wolf-bloodedness. Does anyone remember? I know you can make ghouls so, all the people who pointed that out have already shown how much the world would draastically changed from the discovery of vampires *alone*. They become the most dangerous and important supernatural "human resource" now. Imagine how many people would pay vampires for the...

  • I'd imagine the Curse would adapt but still work mechanically. In the Sundered World chapter from Dark Eras, the Vinca know willworkers can perform magic, and yet are still subject to the Sleeping Curse as normal.

So a mage could be seen as a liar pretending to be a *real* witch, maybe you can also wind up in situations where the magician tries to unveil "the Truth" but the sleepers misremember the event to be something very different--instead of the mage owning their power, they think they saw the nimbus as "some kind of demon" who did it all on behalf of the...

  • You don't saaay? Omigosh that's amazing!! He's already an Eleventh Question so that's perfect! Yay that makes me so excited!

And thanks to nofather too! That was the info I felt was why I should ask this question before I proceeded. My Guardian Hierarch is kind of in a strange situation too--in a sign of cooperation, the position is only of a "Dual-Hierarch", one for domestic issues, the other for the Mystery that seems determined to blow the lid off the Veil and to support the local Arrows who took a huuuge hit!...

  • How unlikely is it to see a Guardian of the Veil as a Hierarch? I haven't read their book, and am not clear on the subtleties of their idea that all thrones are false in juxtaposition to their own political authority within and without the Order.
