  • I think that is par for the course because neophytes are never taught 4 dot spells (for obvious logistical reasons but it does nip this one in the bud)....

  • well I would hope so. I'm still not sure about how many people who ST for this game and think that "the number of people who can actually pull this off is slim to none" is a reasonable balance for any combinations of stuff that sounds scary. I generally assume that mages who have 4 gnosis or higher are extremely rare, extremely rare....

  • I forget, and I haven't been able to find it.

Is Stealing Fire subject to dissonance or paradox, as a matter of course? It makes a Sleeper into a Sleepwalker, but does the spell itself risk paradox prior to taking effect at all times, or would it depend on the context of the casting?

I realized that casting spells on sleepers that are overt might be harrowingly powerful if you combine the Stealing Fire spell with the spell you're actually trying to cast.

  • It has bothered me that augment mind is potency but honing the form is duration. I wonder if that was missed or justified during the process of applying errata to the final version of our books.

I remember when Birth Spirit was Potency instead of Duration. I'm glad they errata'd that, it was such a huge disconnect between me and my ex-ST.

If I had to hazard a guess, if you want a stronger body, you want it strong for a long time because you're not sure when you'll need that strength? But if you need a stronger mind or social skills, you'll know precisely when the situation...

  • What if you just had Matter 3 allow you to do it, and then you use a skill roll to do it well?

Some of my characters deliberately have rotes that are just useless or niche use because they seem like things someone would want if they didn't know they were going to be having an extraordinary life from now on--My go-to character usually has Tune-In because she wants free radio whenever.

  • Well, honestly? I'd think the vast majority of werewolves WOULD tell you to stay away from vampire blood the same way that we were bombarded with DARE campaigns as kids and told to stay away from drugs! What werewolf in their right mind would use vampire blood? We don't take these dangerous drugs for purely rational or good reasons.

But social pressure and the allure of new experiences is compelling--a unwary werewolf could even simply have their blood spiked by a vampire. Like, imagine someone with cruac doing something where they infected a deer with their blood, and the ritual...

  • Holy crap you just gave me a brilliant idea. A Elder vampire who survived risking topor and Kindred politics from centuries ago by blood-addicting a krewe of Sin-Eaters (and maintaining such a cult through the ages), allowing a on-the-surface mutually-beneficial relationship that enables the Elder to carve out their own Dead Dominion....

  • I don't know vampire very well but, if I recall, the Strix also flock to disaster. So that alone might be enough to attract more of them if they sensed disaster coming, and they're all, individually, itching for a fight.

  • I wish I could be in a large group that used it regularly, but its probably best for very small groups, or one-on-one sessions. I've played with a few people before, but they've all only played one-on-one so far, I've never gotten to play in an actual group.

With that said... Astral has come up a lot, and has been very interesting. My player has always enjoyed his excursions into the Astral. Made such a big impact that when his character, who was working on a Life-based legacy or trying to find a way to join the orphans of proteus, met a Dreamspeaker? Decided to pursue the Dreamspeaker...

  • Mechanically no, but, what do we "mechanically" get out of any drug? That's not why we take them, or want other people addicted to them on our behalf. Speaking for the narrative, the werewolves could think they get a lot out of drinking blood from a vampire, thinking it makes them stronger, faster, or whatever--but it could all be a placebo, built on the powerful lie their addiction is giving them, and the overwhelming feelings it forces them to have for their vampire dealer....

  • The rules for sympathy on page 173. and

the weird thing is it only says Unmaking, nothing about Making, but none of the other spells mention making or reaching Connected, only how to move it down from that, which needs Unmaking apparently....

  • I am perfectly aware of that. I just don't think that theming alone isolates the possibilities down far enough if the optional effect could have been from multiple arcana, but since I think we have a concensus that mages can't do that, its no longer that big of a problem to me. I find a theme to be less restrictive than a single arcana. (and having both is what makes a legacy balanced, which the 1E Scions doesn't quite seem to have.)

Isn't it outright stated that Space 5 is needed for the Making practice? Well it says it can only be severed with Unmaking,...

now that everyone has said those images are inaccurate, I'd love to say that they at least look really gorgeous, and that npc characters in a game wouldn't necessarily have to know the maps are inaccurate. What a great red-herring those maps could be for an intrepid mystagogue about to get in way over their head!...

  • In 1E were you able to have multiple order statuses as long as the total only added up to 5? I forget where I remember that being the case.

The 2E basebook does indeed seem to imply that you can only mechanically benefit from a single order at once--multiple order status seems to be good only for rubbing shoulders, and establishing the political game for a character.

Learning rote skills and specialties is probably vaguely possible for a mage who is playing for multiple parties, but if it isn't impossible to have more than three (without mind magic, or maybe its just...

  • Well I meant more that Scions are more open about it. I'm glad you agree that it was a bit of a mess. It went from no optional effect, to a space optional, to suddenly a prime optional. It's just weird. I wanted to narrow it down and think about it because if it were allowed, then a 2E homebrew might, within the internal logic of "becoming a holy angel", include a scary-good words-and-signs optional effect, and a co-location optional effect geared toward being summoned, as in its limited to only allowing you to co-locate if someone wants your presence, but once they summon you, you can...
