This is neat, although I have a tiny quibble---why was the initial 16i tie between Lunar and Fire broken with a coin flip when a) Clashes are neat and b) Fire Melee loves Clashes?
    Again, a tiny quibble.

replied to Should every DB be a sorcerer?
Actually, the buy-in cost for DBs is higher than it is for Solars or Lunars: DBs must first buy four Occult Charms (Excellency included) before they are allowed to take their Terrestrial Circle Sorcery Charm. This isn't a huge hurdle, but it does mean that unlike Solars, they can't really "dip" Sorcery and have to actually invest a good deal in occult expertise. It doesn't make Sorcery a bad option at all, it just makes it less able to be a "oh and also I do Sorcery" like Solars can.

Lunars have a lesser barrier to entry in that they just have to take four Mental...

replied to Do you play Ex3?
I'm playing it and enjoying it a lot. I am currently in two live voice games that play weekly. I am also in a few PBP games. While on non-Exalted-focused sites I haven't seen as much Exalted interest as D&D-et-al, when I do see it, it's nearly always 3e as opposed to 2e or 1e....

A good workaround for the question of illiteracy is effects that force a reader to read the text aloud. I don't see anything regarding if a social influence attempt can be made this way to the audience, or if so, whether the roll is based on the traits of the writer or the unwitting speaker... but I personally would at least rule that social influence can be dispersed in this way.

On one hand, DBs are definitely less powerful than Solars. Their dicecaps are smaller, their Charms are often less efficient in terms of effect balanced against cost/depth of requirements, and they lack the Supernal capacity to just grab a pile of mid-to-late-game Charms right out of the gate. Besides being less strong, their Excellencies must be bought.
On the other hand, DBs have what I think is a better-written and more interesting Charmset and some effects that Solars just don't get to replicate. They also benefit from getting more starting Merits, even as Outcastes. They further benefit...

    replied to Exalted Adventure Paths
From my experience as a player and (to a far lesser degree) an ST, setting out a predetermined campaign path doesn't work all that well with Exalted. Here's what I've cobbled together from what I've experienced as a player, what I've done in my minor ST experience, and what people have said:

Start by working with your players to figure out what you want to play. I suggest you approach this in terms of where and how the game starts more than anything else. If there are specific things you think you'd like to have happen, put that forth to your players to see if they'd want that too....

  • Introducing facts and then leaning on them for a social roll seems to make sense. After all, part of presenting the facts to somebody is... well, presenting them. The same facts might get through to more people depending on your capacity to effectively communicate them, which doesn't necessarily correspond to one's intellect.
