    replied to "Fixing" a Shadowland?
Even just a Terrestrial working could be used to help reduce the risk of a shadowland forming---or, if that gets overpowered by other factors, hobble its size when it does form (in which case you should arguably refund most if not all the XP cost of the working). Likewise, workings to gradually gnaw away at an extant shadowland seem perfectly workable, especially since we know a Solar working could undo a big swath of shadowland. Geomancy and manses could also be the method themselves, and/or serve as Means.

I haven't had to worry about it so far personally, but I've seen it happen sometimes when a sorcerer gets in a tight spot and needs to disengage or something. I actually saw it come up for an enemy sorcerer in a game a while ago, and delayed her enough in firing off Obsidian Butterflies that she was booted into Crash and trounced before she could finish.

My No Moon is pretty good at combat sorcery as well, thanks to a rundown of effects:
    1. Cloaked With Moonfire lets her avoid losing the good good Sorcery Juice if she has to not Shape for a round, so long as she's got her anima up. And she absolutely wants her anima up, because...
    2. The No Moon 5m power to impose a -2 penalty on all visual-dependent rolls against her is quite good if a little mote-hungry... but it's free at bonfire, and at least in the context of our campaign, our characters are able to be openly Lunar, so it's fine for my sorceress to crank up to bonfire and enjoy...

  • Sail also has a weather-mitigating Charm (which I'm pretty sure isn't restricted to use while actively being on a boat) and Deck-Striding Prana, which is a neat way to enhance your combat movement with Sail.
I haven't used the naval combat rules either besides a whiteroom or two, so I can't really speak to those.

And I agree about the flying bison bit---a flying mount everyone can ride on can have a lot of use.

I have a desire to do a crafter and I have not much interest in Artifacts. The Water Craft sig where you do a major project super fast is hella neat; the idea of just sort of swooshing out a thousand arrows or a bridge in the middle of a battle is way my deal.

Re: Socialize, I get how Night Passes Over isn't terribly exciting, though I also see its value in slightly tightening up your Guile costs. Maybe it would be better-served if it weren't just that as its own Charm?

  • I'd ask the ST for a little concession like solaresque excellency gain, or "excellency xp cost is halved and starting charm picks get you two excellencies a pop", first of all.

Second, I'd look at what stuff DB charms do that Solar charms might not. My favorite example is Wind-Carried Words, aka Glorious Terrestrial Cellphone. My DB found an Intimacy on a god with Read Intentions and sneakily wind-whispered it to the Zenith to let her yeet her social cannon at the god. It's subtler and cheaper than Infallible Messenger and its range gets quite decent as your Linguistics...

    replied to Question About Excellencies
The general idea behind DB exies in 3e seems to be that, while they must be purchased as Charms unlike those of Solars and Lunars (and probably anyone else), they get a little extra bonus tacked on to make them more palatable. Thus the rerolling 6s, the exploding 10s, and so forth.

As for why most of them are success-adders, I think it's a little balancing act between assurance and efficiency. A DB can spend 2m on, say, a Socialize roll and buy one guaranteed success. A Solar (or Lunar) can spend 2m on the same roll and buy two dice, which could get him between zero and four successes...

I'm in two different games as Lunars!

Game 1: We're on the Caul and whoops, the Black Lion isn't a fan of us! Also we're using a custom domain-ruling system.
    Our cast is...
A Full Moon (tiger) former gladiator-slave who is a young teen, is good at doin' the fight, and recently-ish learned that the Caulborn tribe she thought she allied with... are actually her subjugated servants, and also have based their culture around having somebody always subjugating them. She's not very happy about it. She is our front-line beatstick.
A Full Moon (simhata) who has two Dragonblooded...

    This is interesting!

Ill Omen Onslaught feels a little wonky having no other time limits besides the end of the scene, the enemy paying the initiative tax, or the enemy being removed from the fight. I might give the enemy another way to get off the hook, such as if the stylist is crashed, or if the enemy recovers from crash, etc.

Diving Talon Strike allowing your rush to move you to Close Range of your regardless of distance feels like there might be weird edge cases in there where your enemy managed to get to Long from you since your disengage, which could be a little...

replied to Cup boils over, does this charm see use?
Cup Boils Over feels like it should descend from a similar but less incredibly niche Charm, either as a separate Charm or as an upgrade that kicks in later.
What the less niche Charm would be, I'm not sure.
