  • Exalted Indicies say that the only official style is Even Blade.

the homebrew "Perfect Lotus vol. 1" has the "Gallant Shadow Style", which lets you be the dashing cat burgler.

I feel like you're just trying to shut down the thread rather than actively participate.

Do people want a Lite system? Maybe. Will it happen? Probably not. But it's kinda fun to talk about Exalted, and maybe talk about what might be or might have been? The thread will burn itself out naturally. Until then, just let it be.

I'm alright with the topic wandering too. This isn't a formalized debate club.

All these questions do directly relate with me trying to do my conversion. It is interesting to see what people like, so that's helpful for me too.

Stunt-based charms are good, though I feel like you do need a certain amount of foundation to stand on, or else it becomes a whole "I shot you!" "No you didn't!" problem.

    I know, right?

It's also kinda intriguing to deconstruct and reduce Exalted in your mind, trying to figure out what exactly is in the core that makes everything tick. What would a Lite system look like? What is underneath all of the trappings and clothes of Exalted that makes it interesting?

I dunno, I like that sort of thing; picking it apart and seeing the thematic core....

"If not, can we request it?" Was also part of my original post.

I could also point out that the lack of interest in a lite system is confirmation bias on your part.

    :/

I mean, that's kinda what this thread is about. Gauging interest, making some noise, finding out people's opinions....

Hah, Yeah, that medium amount of crunch is just where I fall. Godbound is the true "Lite" alternative to Exalted, but is on the lower end of my crunch level.

I would argue that 3e isn't actually all that good, but that's design philosophy and I'm not in the mood for a flame war. (Why on earth is there a JRPG grinding system baked into a TTRPG, crafting? why???) And I'm trying to channel my frustrations into a more positive, constructive thing--though that is hard.

Anyway, sidenote over. You are right, trying to pick apart anything of 3e is not easy. Pull a...

Well, that part is actually easy: think of the Shards book. It had a completely different ruleset in it. Just do a companion pdf....

I am of the mind that creating a good, lite system might actually be harder than a sprawling system. Editing times and all that, so I don't have any illusions about that.

Still, it does capture two types of players with the same lore, refinement, etc. So there is a bit of synergy going on there.

Has there been any "official" lines that do that? Have two systems for the same universe?

Well, an Exalted Lite system would be able to be done by a secondary dev team, OPP could do that without changing the main timeline....

Are there any plans for "Exalted Lite"

Pretty much as the title says. Are there any plans for a lite version of Exalted? Something that keeps the flavor of Exalted, but who don't really want to deal with a lot of mechanics, book mining, etc.?

If not, is there any way we can request it?
See more | Go to post

  • No...I'm pretty sure I want to play in the Exalted setting, just not the rules.

  • I'd rather not change the curve too much, and "dice tricks" are something I'm trying to avoid. I already have the advantages/disadvantages in, which gives a +/- to your roll....

  • I wonder if there is a way to have cake and eat it too. I'm not backing the kickstarter, so I don't have access to the rules. But is there some section that says "Hey, if you want to play DB's in the same circle as Solars, here's what to do. Just don't think about its setting implications too hard."

If there isn't that section, can we request it? I think it's not unreasonable.

  • Yeah, in my mind all of that can still be achieved by making it so that characters in a party....equally viable? I just hate when you're playing a game and then there is... that guy.You know the one. The one that min maxes and make sure he is better than every one else and makes it fun for noone else to play in the game? Now, obviously that's bad party-dynamics and you should kick that guy, but I bring this up because I don't think that games where you can be that guy at character creation, or have on in the party should be....encouraged by the game?

You can make a bad system fun...

  • Huzzah, I'm at 12/24 ability charm sections converted! (Occult is being absorbed into the Sorcery section)

Once all 24 are converted, I'll have to write out the basics of sorcery, artifacts, and then martial arts. I'm hoping to at least have the first playable draft done by the beginning of next month!

    Edit:
Also, if there's anyone who wants to collaborate on this, I think it would be helpful.

  • I'm talking game design reasoning here. This specifically is a thread about whether the non-matching xp table is a good or bad idea, and so I'm voicing my opinion on that it's a bad idea and why it is so. You guys keep asking questions about it, so I keep answering.

Here's a question: If it's such a minor change to make and doesn't change anything to match the progression to the celestials and doesn't ruin anything....why isn't it the default? Why not have the non-standard xp chart as the optional rule instead?

My particular beef, as I said before, is that...

  • But...I mean....that's kinda my entire point. It's to avoid the situation where you don't have to choose between "the most optimal" Exalt type, and just play whatever you want and not feel like you're being punished for it!

Look, regardless of the exact ratio, the desire for mixed parties are at least a significant enough portion that they should be taken into account when developing the game.

As far as I can see, there's not a lot to be gained by not balancing for it: if you're playing single exalt campaigns...fine. the books should be internally balanced within...
