    Populating Champoor

The Nighted City seems like a very cool addition to the setting. To my mind it seems like a weird mix of Mos Eisley, the Bathhouse from Spirited Away, and Tortuga from Pirates of the Carribean.

For such an eclectic, unusual place I thought it would be fun to have a thread for everyone to throw in ideas for denizens, locations or other singular elements that might be encountered on a saunter through the city.

    This is that thread.

  • Ok - I'll factor those ideas into the final outline. Although the Lintha pirate I had developed was more of a charismatic priest of malfeas, bringing people into the demonic fold with his swashbuckling charm....

And not that anyone asked - but here's the limited edition of 1e against 3e. Over time the game has... grown.

  • Cytherea - this is still coming, just didn't get as much time to write over the weekend as I hoped, and I also had to do a bit more reading up on Ang-Teng (not a location I've used a lot in my games).

FYI, here's the initial NPC card draw
    Card Motivation Cards
02 – The Priest 16 – The Tower (inverted) + The Hanged Woman (inverted)
    08 – Justice 19 – The Sun

I wonder if the change in leadership will affect this approach in any way

  • In 2e, The more detailed fluff on demon summoning said that sorcerers break a bound demons will by puttiing pressure on one of the four virtues. There were descriptions of the differences between breaking a demons compassion or valor. It was just a way to provide depth to part of the game, but to me ot felt like it worked really well conceptually...

There's a major obstacle to this approach to Sidereals - and it's the role they played in orchestrating the usurpation.

First, think about how the approached it. There were factions within the Sidereal ranks, they disagreed on the best approach forward, they took a vote or used some other collective process to make a decision, and then they all stuck to it. Some of the 2e Sidereal fluff even shows a circle of Sidereals gently mocking one of them for being a gold faction member while they all go about the task of (moving a village? from memory).

For a unit of 100 individuals...

  • I kind of miss the 4 virtues - what will replace them?

To be clear, I absolutely do not miss the mechanics of "roll or spend willpower when you see someone kick a puppy", but the concept of there being four defining virtues that held a strong metaphysical place in creation was something interesting.

There were the virtue-based martial arts, the abcyssic plates and the idea of demon summoning being based on the four virtues, diseases arranged according to vitrues (which was problematic but still an interesting idea) and I personally found the virtues to be a useful replacement for the idea of 'elements' in a world where the elements...

Exalted suffers from one of the drawbacks of White Wolf's desire to have entirely playable game universes which, in the world of darkness meant multiple game lines in which you could play good, bad or grey. But each character type had their own game universe in which to function, and each universe/game line had a fairly distinct style and play.

In exalted (which you may remember was originally sold as a kind of proto-WoD) tried to combine elements of all of the major WoD game lines into a single, playable universe. But, each of the exalted splats was still very much aligned by the...

  • I'm definitely willing to give it a try - though it sounds like you've already got something quite grand in mind. Over this weekend I'll have a go at devising a satellite scenario that involves several of the factions. A more contained context that might either provide a catalyst for the longer war storyline, or that could be the PC's initial microcosm of conflict representative of the broader one.

I'll write it up and send you links when i'm done.

Thanks. While I did post that blog under a different username... this username still applies to most thin...

  • Also - while I have no association to these companies or products whatsoever - two tarot decks I find particularly fun to use for Exalted games are the Manga and Epic tarot decks, both here

  • I interpret cards in context rather than have predefined meanings for them, but once a Major Arcana is associated with an NPC within a particular game, I will always link the two - that way NPCs plots can manifest unexpected connections and involvements with other parts of the story. There's nothing to stop you from prescribing NPCs to those cards before you start drawing card, but that means you're developing 22 significant NPCs before the game event begins, which is way more than you'll initially need to use, and so that isn't the way I approach it....

I only just recently watching this movie as it was $2 to rent on itunes. The story was utter trash, which makes the casting even more stupid.

That being said, the CGI wankfest that they used to try and replace the story provided some incredible Exalted-styled imagery. Horus' battle armour looks as I imagine a suit of celestial battle armour would look, and the depictions of giant monsters, non-human gods and mutants, and giant manse-like buildings were all wonderful Exalted fodder.

If you haven't seen it, save yourself the pain, and just search for gifs and images.

  • I can see that a fair few people have clicked through and read at least half the relevant posts. I appreciate that providing feedback may not be the easiest request, but if anyone is interested, I'd be happy to have a go at devising some session outlines for other people's game. Just let me know the general concept of your game.

  • An approach to developing stories & session [PEACH]

Over an extended period of time I've been writing down a process I sometimes use for using tarot cards to devise game ideas including individual session stories.

I've written it as a series of blog posts, and would appreciate some critical feedback, first on the writing itself (procedural writing is not my strong suit) and secondly on the model and examples.

The series of posts begins here:
