The only way to learn is to try. If you find a group that want to be collaborative from the outset you'll have a much easier time. But ultimately you'll learn more from dissecting a session to figure out what did/didn't work than you will from reading lots about it, but it means first you have to give it a go!...

2e - does Threefold Binding of the Heart end upon the death of the sorcerer, or is the effect permanent even beyond the life of the caster?

That player has put together a new night caste character, but not the same solar shard. Their new character is a night-caste tinkerer with high stealth, dodge, larceny and craft. Right off the bat they've got the charms to repair and maintain first age automata without tools or materials and the player has opted to have no combat skills, and instead has a fang of brass legionaires at their command....

Would it seem feasible for their to be a hierarchy of death gods who oversee various forms of death and or victims?

E.g. the god of death in battle, who serves under Ahlat in the south,

Or the god of seasonal death (one for drowning, exposure, exhaustion/overheating, falling/crushing, and disease)

Even a god who oversees the rare occasions of demons or ghosts who are destroyed in creation...

I'm pretty happy with this decision, even if it's not canon. New gods come into existence when a genuinely new idea comes along, or a new town, or elemental manifestation, and ultimately this serves my story and I feel it's an appropriate way to acknowledge the sacrifice of the character in game....

from memory, Wonders of the First Age suggested that magi-tech limb replacements were still available i the current age, though much more rough and functional than the aesthetics of the First Age. I assume they need at least an enlightened smith, of not an exalted crater to produce, and I'm assuming the Empire makes access to such things into a chance to scrutinize the patient.

Generally, however, I'd say "as your game requires it"

For however long I've been on these forums, reading this post was the first time I've noticed that E in the middle of your username. I've always read it as Leet-speak, rather than Leet-sep-eak.

What's your intended pronunciation of that name, and where did it come from?...

Fair enough - would this work instead:

"a good GM seeks to find an equilibrium in the game that offers something to everyone, rather than forcing a particular style of play onto their group without consideration of players preferences."...

    Thanks for the feedback.

With regards to the point above, which language do you feel indicates a bias against railroading? My intent was to describe the idea of meeting your players at an appropriate middle ground, which, if that means running a linear railroad game, then you run a linear railroad game.

I'd like to edit it to take out any such perceived bias...

    7 principles of good GMing

I recently wrote a thing about running games, and the behaviours and practices of a good GM. I would appreciate any constructive criticism you have to offer.

I don't know if it's canon that prayers can create a god, but I wanted something of significance to come out of the event and this seemed appropriate. Also, the town in question was built by the circle to house some 5000 refugees whose home town was destroyed by demons. Being a new town it was going to attract or form a new small God, and in this instance I'm letting the prayers of the villagers influence the nature of their city god....

As a result of this moment, the village the PCs were defending from the invading legion of ghosts has quickly turned to giving thanks to the fallen night caste, as well as the circle more broadly, and invoking their names as a protective mantra. This naturally translates into a cult background for the players, but I'm playing with ideas for what it could mean for the memory of the fallen solar. I'm writing it that the characters ghost, by virtue of being a willing martyr, has passed straight through and does not remain as a ghost, meaning that the prayers of the villagers, over a long enough time,...

I must not understand the rules properly. In my 2e game an experienced DB or a group of mid-level DBs still represent a decent challenge for all but the most combat-minmaxed of early to mid-game solars.

I kept the 2e rule of base damage = essence, and a couple of flurries from multiple DBs still brings down the solars DV and lets a handful of damage 3-4 hits land.
