Hmm, could High Ess Lunar Elder who actually uses Legendary Size (as opposed to the LFATG Elders) but everything according to the rules actually be a credible boss fight for a Solar Circle?

Yeah, there are no canonical Artifact oo weapons. Each one is a weapon of legend capable of awakening Evocations and is thus at least Artifact ooo.

I've been accused in the past of using edge case mechanics in Exalted to give the characters I make an advantage that people who don't study the rules won't get.

What my naysayers don't understand is Exalted is explicitly a system that Rewards System Mastery and is full of such edge cases, such that building a character around them (including the Character Creation bp game) is at least 50% more effective (in my estimation) at what you aim towards than just picking "cool stuff".

Of course, just try explaining this to people who want to play Fashion-xalted. I'm...

I'm quite aware of how the social system works, I am positing a state of affairs where:

    1. You do not successfully persuade said demon.

    2. Said demon acts like they were persuaded.

    3. You are unable to successfully penetrate their guile (either lacking the items you mentioned or just being poor at it)

    4. They lie to the character and say they are their willing servant and are sent off to ostensibly do the summoner's will.

Sure, at this point you the player knows that the demon is lying their ass off, but the character would not (barring...

But how would you model it in game? Do the ritual and instead of the willpower-off for a binding you say, "Terribly sorry to interrupt your hellish routine, but I've got a task that needs helping with, and I'm sure we can arrange some quid pro quo?" and try to social action bargain them into it instead?

Because the danger there is that they straight up lie to you and run off to wreak havoc once you're not looking.

I suppose it depends on the demon and if you successfully leverage it's love of cats to get it to do what you want.

So hypothetical, here. You are playing an Exalted Sorceror (lets say Celestial so you can get 2nd Circles at least), and guess what, you're from a progressive (like a weirdo Lunar Clan or a Republican 100 Kingdoms Kingdom) slavery rejecting society and are in fact, all things considered, a pretty decent person.

Now you got taught Sorcery from a ghost girl who summons flowers, gems, and flowers made out of gems, so she ain't gonna judge, how would you go about making an equitable, as pleasant as possible and non abusive arrangement with:

    1. A Blood Ape for guard duty (not...

  • Doesn't the Deeb Exaltation tend to come out under duress? I imagine there's a couple of very stressful years at whatever font of education young dynasts spend their time at, but if they don't flame on by say... 18? maybe the instructors then let nature take it's course.

The lion's share of the credit should go to my fellow forumites who worked tirelessly in the optimization mines to perfect her, but indeed thank you very much for the kind words. Its always nice to see a particular build do well in practice as well as in theory....

I like to think of Volfer as a... 5 on the scale of Exalt Chargen prowess.

Is 5 awful? No. 5 can fight off armies and handily take on rated 5 Deebs and whatnot.

However ... the scale goes to 20. 20 ish is about where Ragara Smash is operating.

Now I'm reasonably confident to say that any Chargen Celestial at 20 can probably beat Ragara Smash like 70-80% of the time, with the remainder being dice luck.

How do I know this? Well, JohnDoe pitted one of my optimized chargen creations (ish, Death Kitty could be more optimal for combat, she runs about...

  • If you are going for really, really big owls, then Constrictor obviously, so you can grab and go (and drop a deeb from 10 storeys up).

  • See here, Volfer from Tomb of Dreams should not be used to benchmark Dawn Solar anything. I recall him being chunked by JohnDoe’s Deeb in two rounds.

Granted, JohnDoe’s Deeb is a mass murdering conglomerate of interlocking mechanics, but still.

The book defines difficulty as (p185):

    1: Ordinary fare for heroes.

2: Challenging tasks (for presumably heroes) under significant duress.

    3: Daunting Tasks for heroes.

4: Daunting tasks for heroes under significant duress

5: Near Impossible tasks for heroes.

So by your definition of 6 performance, it would be, by extension, for a mortal hero, a near impossible task while under significant duress.

Of course Exalts which invested in said task with an appropriate excellency (like say Lunar Trickster with trying...

  • Does that mean a Dex 5 Brawl 1 Lunar with say, Int 5 in Tyrant Lizard form would normally have a dice cap of 11 (due to Base of 6 + Dex 5) but they could stunt in Int 5 at any time for no mote cost to raise the dice cap to 16 (due to base of 6 + Dex 5 + Int 5) and thus access the full Tyrant Lizard dice pool for say...

Attack (Slam): 12 dice (Damage 14, minimum 4). The
tyrant lizard uses its head or tail to bash an enemy, and
    can make a smashing attack

Thats pretty amazing (man that word is being chucked around a lot).

  • Ah, indeed you are correct, my mistake. Its animal damage and soak that ignores other considerations. So if you had a Dex 5 Brawl X, Str 1 No Moon, they'd still hit like a truck and tank like a brick wall.

By the way, I recommend Dex 5 for Phys Tert Lunars for obvious reasons....

  • Form Dicepool > Yours, use the higher.

All dice over your base regular pool are considered charm dice which necessarily limits how many dice you can add using excellencies, yes.

Dex 1, Brawl 0 No Moon is still rolling the Tyrant Lizard’s base dice pool, which as you said, amazing....

  • Lunars do have that amusing thing where even the weediest No Moon can become a Legendary Sized Murder Machine with a small one charm investment.

    But that isn’t Solar-perfection-at-combat, no.

It’s kind of the Warren Ellis “Even if I want Superman to have a dark and edgy streak, I kind of don’t want him to be cloned from Hitler’s personal sex midgets, y’know”* idea.

There’s dark and edgy and then there is good taste. Especially if you are the one playing Superman.

*I’m actually referencing Planetary here it’s a for real thing. What would we do without Warren Ellis?...
