  • I don't. What's a "process server" in this context?

Also, isn't there a rote somewhere that literally pays the bills for you?

  • I agree that all players need to discuss their characters with the ST and each other to make them compatible as a group and with the game. Of course, this is not remotely unique to disabled characters. There are endless ways to make PCs who aren't compatible without ever touching a single flaw, and endless ways to take a pack of compatible pregens and turn them into PVP freaks who kill and sabotage their own packmates for "XP".

However, the word "disabled" is very misleading. A real-life human with a disability is not a worthless sack of meat incapable of doing...

  • Tona refers to sacred sites of the Balam. Some were Den-Realms, some were Caerns. The Balam were enough to defend these places before the industrialized masses of Europeans (and Garou) invaded. The Balam were generally killed and robbed of their lands.

The Nuwisha had caerns (called kivas) but once it became necessary to defend these places against military-scale attacks, the Nuwisha decided to let the Garou do all the hard work. Unlike the Balam, they have ways of sneaking back in (disguised in their wolf-lookalike Sendeh form) to do what they want there.

    Ajaba used...

    replied to Kami Question
The Consensual reality and the superiority/primacy of humanity in Mage is indeed incompatible with the Werewolf cosmology.

On the other hand, Mages can be and often are chosen by Umbral spirits, even the very same ones that patronize the Changing-Breeds, and these spirits can and do deliberately Awaken humans to be their servants (often winding up with Dreamspeakers or Orphan spirit-talkers). So the very existence of these types of Mages puts the lie to the Garou notion that Mages are inherently unnatural and against the wishes of Gaia. On the third limb, why aren't all kami as powerful...

  • What counts as "overboard"? Is giving a PC the same disability I have "overboard"? Is a PC with realistic PTSD "overboard"?

Why is there an assumption that if a character has a heavy load of flaws, it is automatically because the player is a min-maxer/attention-wh**re/crappy player?

  • Yeah, and W20 didn't get a Player's Guide, like V20 and M20 and even C20 did. So a lot of Merits and Flaws and probably other traits were never updated.

Also, take CB20 with a chunk of salt the size of your head. A lot of Fera Gifts were simplified to the point of doing something entirely different, or just left out entirely. The Ajaba and Mokole had their aspects/auspices all messed up. The Mokole and Bastet had their form statistics messed up. Everything else about the Mokole was hella messed up. So in several respects you're better off using Revised and the Breedbooks, especially...

Yeah, it definitely depends on the tribe.

The Uktena Revised tribebook has the character essentially touring the septs of the world, and then answering a difficult spiritual mystery for her Rite of Passage. However, if she had failed to solve the mystery she would have been eaten.

The Black Furies finding lost caerns is presumably something they used to do which isn't possible anymore.

But lots of tribes, from Get of Fenris to Silent Striders, generally require the cubs to go kill some challenging Wyrm-monster.

  • For the Werewolf setting as-written, it's out of theme for anyone but Gaia and Luna (or Helios) to create a true, genuine, fully-functional and spiritually-potent Changing-Breed or shapeshifter individual. Said individual will be a shapeshifter from birth (unless it's a Corax or Ratkin). The Rite of Sacred Rebirth results in a sort-of-Garou, but most spirits won't treat with them. The Mockery Breeds from Pentex are even more screwed up, dysfunctional, without the full range of forms, and most of them can't learn Gifts.

Mages can certainly become, or maybe create, shapeshifters of...

  • I could imagine possessed wights' vitae having disturbing, and unpredictable, mutation effects on any childer created. Perhaps some vampire somewhere has already decided to experiment with Bloodwyrms and Blood Sorcery, just to see if they can create something interesting and/or useful.

I agree the Bloodwyrm wouldn't think to embrace anyone itself.

I like the idea of the pact you came up with.

I do also think you may have underestimated with only 1-2 First Changes a year for a sept. The traditional way that Garou run their Rites of Passage, cubs can easily die during the challenge. They could also potentially die during their First Change, especially if they're a lost cub. Then cubs spend 6 months to a couple years training before the Rite itself. But then, the rate of First Changes is really up to you for your campaign -- deciding how fast the Garou population is shrinking and how tiny and understaffed the average sept is.

  • On the other hand, some disabilities that are not at all life-destroying cannot be depicted with only 7 pts worth of flaws. So making that a hard limit either punishes character concepts with realistic disabilities, or flat-out bans them. "Your character who is like you can't exist/can't be a hero in our game" is a horrible message to send to disabled people. It pissed me off when Exalted said that the gods never choose disabled people because cripples are worthless, and it doesn't make me happy that something similar is enforced in Werewolf. I'm talking about things like realistic PTSD,...

  • 1-2. Rokea grottos are sacred places, but they are fixed in place on the reefs. Rokea roam around in the open ocean a lot, so they also regain Gnosis from the Rorqual. These are whale kami who carry Sea's Love (Gnosis) and share it with Rokea who need it. Or carry Glamour and share it with Mer, depending on the Rorqual.
This is confusing since Garou don't gain Gnosis from caerns during the Moot Rite. But most books about the Fera treat Gnosis as the main reason Fera would want Caerns.
As for Umbral access, Gurahl and Bastet have miniature caerns called Umbral Glades and Den-Realms....

  • I've always wanted playable Paladins who don't serve God/stereotypical Lawful Good stand-ins.

And this makes me question how the Euthanatoi can have unawakened linear sorcerer members. Don't you have to Awaken to bring yourself back from the Underworld? Or do they let anyone with any kind of near-death experience become an apprentice? It just seems to me that anyone who comes back from the dead would end up Awakened, one way or another....

  • Of course with Euthanatoi it's not just a "symbolic" journey to the Underworld.

  • Thanks.

So the rest of the Syndicate aren't officially (or "officially"?) helping Pentex anymore?
I kind of wonder why not, actually. And since when. Pentex doesn't do anything unusual for a multinational corporation, except maybe they're the only corporation making Fomori. But those are very useful, as the GENES prove. The Wyrm and Gaia don't exist in Technocratic cosmology.
It's a problem that they aren't under Technocrat control, but the way to fix that is to dominate their Board, not just walk out.

But really, nobody needs 20+ more spirit nukes to be dropped on various Shard Realms and goodness knows where else. The Membrane doesn't need to be turned into Avatar Storm x10, nor does it need any gaping holes blown in it. And the world doesn't need Nephandic nodes to be "fixed" from space, splattering their resonance all over the nearest continent. The VEs really do need the lecture, especially if the rank and file have never been told the truth. They have already caused more damage than Threat Null, so...

  • Huh. That's interesting Chris, especially about the Neverborn. I agree with your view of the Impergium, but you've misunderstood or missed how Werewolf depicts the Triat. I don't want to derail the thread, though.

Are there any Mystick Paradigms that don't accept reincarnation, at least of Avatars? It seems to be an incontrovertible fact of the setting, anyway. I can see why some Paradigms might consider reincarnation unimportant ("who cares?", asks the stereotypical Hermetic, Technomancer, or power-hungry jerk) or believe it only involves the Avatar while the rest of the...

  • I think I saw something hinted like this in Book of Worlds (the only Mage book I have*). I'll have to reread it. So Oblivion is more like the River Lethe in Greek Myth, and less like utter nonbeing/destruction?
