  • Hi Su-tehp!

Thanks for sharing that. Here's a new factoid: Azaera's entire hive got wiped out in The Silver Crown, apparently without having released a Talon of the Wyrm. So if it's still in there, the other Spirals might or might not know about it.

I'm sure they'd go in the Silver Record and get a buttload of renown and fame. In the game system they'd still have to earn renown in the auspice categories and then challenge for Rank 6, but maybe that isn't always the way it's done in practice? I dunno.

  • Ah yes, armchair generals who send other people out to die in their war.
Thanks for posting that - it certainly makes a case for all kinds of potential encounters, at least on the VE's side. Of course, as other gamelines have mentioned the VEs have a history of unintentionally and unknowingly ravaging some of the places they explore. (e.g. Project Deepwater.)

There is another Changing-Breed the VEs might encounter in space, that is the Bastet. They have very little access to the Umbra and would mostly frequent the Middle Umbra, but they also have ways of visiting the...

  • I didn't mean to go on a rant, sorry. To bring this more to "what could W5 look like" this question of human suffering could be a point of contention between tribes. I imagine many Garou really don't worry much about the suffering of non-Kinfolk humans. Bone Gnawers, Uktena, Wendigo, and maybe Children of Gaia could be trying to convince the other Garou this is something they should care about. On the other side of the debate, many Garou might say well, that's sad, but we have more important things to fight - not realizing that human suffering feeds the Wyrm. And of course the Red Talons...

  • Absolutely. Human rights abuses are a core part of industrial "progress".

Polluting factories, mine tailings, leaky pipelines, landfills, toxic waste, and nuclear waste are routinely put in communities of racially and/or economically oppressed people, so that the dominant groups don't have to suffer (or even hear about) the effects. It causes extreme health problems: congenital disabilities ("birth defects"), stillbirths, lots of nasty diseases, and now extra COVID vulnerability... plus the oil spills and chemical accidents also occur mostly in "sacrifice...

  • Interesting. So if they're out on a bug hunt, or defending some spot, they may be jumpy and paranoid and shoot first, but if they're exploring they'll be more laid-back and curious? Do you know how dedicated they are to "sanitizating" Reality Deviants, in various editions?

I'll add that I know Werewolf cosmology doesn't matter for a purely Mage game, but if you're using Garou or Corax NPCs they'll believe it as their "paradigm". (With all the fervor of violent religious fanatics.)

Brainstorming spirit broods sounds cool, although I have no brainpower for it right now.

I think of the Trickster as a Celestine, with various Incarnae in his/its brood, incl. Raven. But I don't know if there's any textual support for that.

  • My impression is that the VE carry out the genocidal pogrom just as much as the other Technocrats. So as soon as they try to murder or capture the Garou just for existing, the werewolves will fight back.

Given that most Garou are also intolerant of the unknown even at their best, and already have bad experiences with high-tech teams attacking them, they may be just as hostile. If they saw the VEs fighting against some tentacled horror, they'd probably see it as not much different from a Nexus Crawler vs. Stasis Vector fight, or a HIT Mark vs. Black Spiral fight: two implacable, utterly...

  • As far as I know you can just make one on TV Tropes if you want, once you get a TVT account. I'm not aware of a restriction there on "relevance" like Wikipedia has. Just, please use tropes based on their description pages, not on their names (that was something that annoyed me frequently when I used to edit TVT).

  • And Dinosaurs are reptiles. Yes, birds are reptiles, in a cladistic sense.

If Konradleijon meant reptiles in the cold-blooded, scaly, featherless sense, then dinosaurs and pterosaurs weren't reptiles. But most of them weren't birds either....

  • I agree that I would not want to see the core themes of WTA changed at all. Some stereotypes and derogatory things still need to be removed, some of the science about wolves and other animals needs updating, and the tribal weaknesses and Pure Breed fur patterns could use a total overhaul. But the core themes are the reason I love WTA, and a very cogent and pointed commentary on many of the most horrible problems caused by real world humans. WTF holds no attraction to me at all, except to mine for ideas to translate into WTA.

I think perhaps the OP might have meant whether the mechanics...
