  • I suppose that you don't necessarily need a name yet. You'll need one to present to the Consilium, but that can be determined later. Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.

    • Five guys and their pet cat? 8D

I honestly have no idea. We don't have a common enemy - I don't consider Alux an enemy of Lynx or Ophis, as Lynx was only a bystander and Ophis hasn't even met the creature. The biggest trait we have in common is that we're all freshly Awakened, but "Apprentices of Necessity" or similar doesn't strike me as a particularly elegant name. Nor does "The Noobs."

Brainstorming with the Highstorm and the Suburbia theme...

      Born of the Highstorm?
      Eye of the Storm?
Suburban Scholars? Suburban Knights? Knights of Suburbia?

      • "The Stormborne" has a nice ring, because it's also a homophone for "Stormborn," which references the fact that several of the cabal Awakened around the time of the Deathstorm, and the fact that all of them came together due to events surrounding the most recent Highstorm.

        • Did a quick I Ching divination for cabal name inspiration, and I got a fitting result about the cabal's current state. No name ideas though.

            • I have no idea whether this is a genuine tarot-reading style or not, but I found a 6-card reading style that seems to be bearing appropriate results.

I've seen that layout before, it's pretty solid. The results however are anything but. According to professionals (whether you believe them or not is a different story), the cards are not simply chosen at random, the deck must be attuned to the querent's question, whether the querent shuffles the deck while thinking about the question or the reader does. Also, the spread in the latter link doesn't correspond to the former link. And why is there only the major arcana in that? And why are none of them reversed?

                • Definitely digging the enthusiasm for how to pick a name, but please don't feel obligated to literally use a divination attempt to pick one. I like to think that there are cabals out their with rebels and jokesters, with names that cause everyone else to groan and rolls their eyes at Consilium gatherings. Doesn't have to define you, and could also be changed later if you all decide to reevaluate your goals.

Caladriu - I want to emphasize it if I didn't make it clearer before, or perhaps ease any concern you might have: I think your RP of Moonstone has been awesome. The character has a lot of depth, your writing style is really engaging and fun to read, and Moonstone has a very clear voice and style shining through his IC actions. My comment about him running the risk of being a "Mary Sue" character is not because I think you've been hogging the spotlight, but rather because I think it would be easy for things to naturally drift that way if we don't think about where to draw the limits of his knowledge. I love that he was a Sleepwalker before Awakening, and his backstory was one of the reasons I really wanted you in this game.

I'm just finding myself wondering what he would reasonably know, and wanting to make sure that he has his moments of "Oh shit, this is crazy, I've never seen anything like this before ohshitohshit" like other newly Awakened mages should have. I think that's a natural point of drama in a storytelling game of Mage 2E, and if Moonstone had all of those moments already, off-screen and before the game even began, I think it detracts from his ability to develop in-game.

I like your suggestions -- I will check out the Sleepwalker appendix again, and also try to make the Guardian initiation process (assuming he still ends up going that route) a good way for him to see how he was wrong about a lot of things, or at least ignorant of them.

I think one neat way to change something would be for Moonstone to throw in information that he assumes is true but is actually way off base. Like, oversimplified stuff he's been told or thought he understood right, which then leads him into doing or saying something wrong in a way that's foolish. I will grant you WP for Naïve when those situations arise, plus it offers more chances for him to feel uncertain. And if he ever gets a dramatic failure on an Occult check or Divination casting, that's another fun way to play around with him.

                  • Real quick: I think we might be idling a bit, any objection to moving on to a more dynamic scene? If there's broad agreement about forming a cabal, name aside, maybe we can resolve those Aspirations and do our other stuff now.

                      • I will likely have time tomorrow to put up the next scene introductory post. So, feel free to wrap things up here and I will get back in the helm for the action.

                        • Yeah, I think we're ready for a scene transition, unless anybody else has something to add.
