  • rwknoll I forgot to add a subject line for Informed. Can I just say it represents a lucky break like Charmed?

If not, then I'll just go with Informed (The Strings of Fate).

I would pick a subject. Informed (The Strings of Fate) is fine with me. The purpose of this condition is to give you a bonus on a specific skill (non-spellcasting) roll. Informed (The Strings of Fate) could help you on an Occult, Investigation, or other similar roll where knowledge about the workings of Fate might be relevant.

If you prefer, because you are casting this specifically heading into an interaction with Valentine, you could also take Informed (Valentine). Your exceptional luck would essentially allow you to do or say just the right thing to interact more effectively with him.

DrSteve - I have been playing Mage 2E for a few years now and I seriously have never caught that reference you provided about players choosing their own conditions on an exceptional success! Wow. Yeah, I am fine with players choosing their own conditions, then. My only request as a ST is that you all pick conditions that are related to the dramatic action that created them. I also prefer that players not select special conditions that are normally reserved for specific dramatic moments (e.g., the Triumphant condition that is normally earned by winning a Duel Arcane).

You can also create a custom condition; if you do, I reserve the right to tweak it if I think it's too "cheesy" or not appropriate for the situation. I can add any new conditions that we make to the OOC thread introductory posts, for easy reference in the future.

For everyone: I haven't seen much activity this week but I'm wondering if it's because people don't have much more to say or do right now in response to my most recent post? I wanted to offer others the chance to take any other actions they wanted before we move on, but I will try to work on the next ST post over the next day or two to help us move the story along.

      • Yeah, I don't think the Heir has much to add right now. I'll double-check if there is anything he can respond to from the rest of the Cabal, but I'm ready to move on to the meeting.

          For our purposes:
oZ: is open roll Z means that an extra roll is done when the dice result is Z or greater. This is how we add 8- or 9-Again. Basic 10-Again doesn't need this because
hZ: is hit Z means that Z+ results are successes, with an implicit oY where Y is the highest number. For our purposes, that means it automatically gains 10-Again.
roZ: is reroll once Z, remans that the die rerolls once on a Z or lower. Basically the Rote Quality.

So, in the example given by Orokos7d10o9h7 means Seven dice, hits on 7+, roll again on 9+
Thanks, especially for giving an example for 9 again!

Hmm, I'll think about it for a bit. Will definitely ake a decision once the next post is up.

Actually, speaking of Valentine, how much does Fatewise know about him, and did she have enough time to do research on the guy?

I'm thinking of actually using that Research Specialty.

            • Don't really think Lynx has much to contribute at the moment, I'm just waiting for things to move on for now.

It’s actually a moot point. The idea of Fate magic is that you don’t need to do research per se, you just conveniently know the right thing to say or do at a given moment to have a desired outcome. The Informed condition normally comes from doing research and preparing something to help you apply it, like reading about werewolves from a Mysterium Athanaeum and then using it to prepare a trap for them. But with Fate, it’s like randomly choosing what you say or do, and it just happens to hit home or have the desired response. You usually don’t even know how it will happen, it just works out that way.

So you don’t need to research Valentine to actually select him for the Informed condition. The imago of your spell simply allowed you to will the strings of Fate to bend to your way, and it just so happens to work out that you know how to interact with Valentine to have a positive outcome.

Ok, that makes sense. I guess I'll take that Informed Condition about Valentine after all.

Btw, Rene has an Empathy Specialty to detect lies, would that apply to the Wits + Empathy roll offered?

                    • No, your specialty would not apply here. Same thing with Morganna, her Pierce Deception spell would not detect any active untruths in Valentine’s words.

                      • Planning my Post right now, probably just going to make another Perception roll. Rene is really observant when she's anxious, when bad luck hits her as often as it does it pays to keep an eye out for details. You never know what's going to be important after all.

rwknoll Is Fatewise able to spend the last Divination question without speaking out loud? Like, can she ask the question in her head and still get an answer?

Yeah, I don’t see why not. It’s no different than the result you get from casting it the original time, which doesn’t require you to speak your question aloud either.

                            • Ouch. Just realized that the group is weak when it comes to combat skills and spells.
