First things first; Marlin will call the school and let them know he's on his way. (If he doesn't have a missed call from the school, he will pointedly request they call him first in the future).
After giving them his best estimate for arrival, he'll start to consider what to tell Daisy. Years of honesty bubble to the surface. All he can imagine is "You'll never believe what happened! There were other sorcerers, and a portal, and a teleporting mansion, and a wizard's duel!" He sighs and shakes his head, but is unable to rid himself of the imaginary conversation.
I'll have to force it out.
Once the spell is in place, he'll call up Daisy to apologize, assure her that everything is all right, and let her know he's on his way. Forgoing any complex story, his general excuse is that he started rearranging some shelves, left his phone in the other room, and "I guess I haven't fully transitioned to the fall schedule yet."
Conversation over, Daisy irritated but at least satisfied that nothing strange is going on, Marlin hangs up the phone. He cancels the spell. It's not the first time he's lied to his wife; it's not even the first time he's lied about magic. But it hasn't become routine. Yet.

Wednesday (+1 WP!)
When Marlin gets to the bookstore, he hangs up a sign that says "Closed for Inventory" and draws the curtains. Satisfied that it will take serious effort to peer inside, he opens a satchel full of ritual components: candles, chalk, incense, and a mirror. Under the flickering candlelight he creates a ritual space focused on the door to the upstairs section of the store.
He visualizes the door becoming like the mirror, deflecting attention from itself. He visualizes the smoke and scent of the incense shrouding the door, shielding it from scrutiny.
After three hours of casting, the spell takes hold. Marlin wipes sweat off his face, then for good measure, hangs an "Employees Only" sign on the door.
The ritual components are relocated upstairs, where he begins to cobble together a proper sanctum.
At some point that evening, Marlin feels the abyssal taint finish working its way into his pattern. He checks his nimbus under mage sight, examining the taint. Disgusted, he scours it out. (+1 Lethal, +2? Arcane Beats)

Thursday, Friday (+2 WP, -1 Lethal, +6 Mana)
Marlin will make arrangements to change the name of the bookstore as it appears on the door to "Bound Books".
Apart from that, he'll spend the days resting and attending to whatever customers wander in. Trying to be normal.
