Dr. Roman looks on impassively, his face a tableau of disappointment. He makes a couple of notes on the paper, and writes for a good long couple of minutes, pausing every so often to flip pages, consult some charts. He leaves Adonis breathing hard, strapped upright to a metal slab, staring out with impotent fury through thick glass. He sighs, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose, and rubbing a hand down his face. From his reaction, it doesn't look like he's learned anything new. He stands up from the chair where he was sitting, and walks up to the thick glass, resting a hand on it, allowing his full weight to be taken by the glass.
"You know so little of alchemical theory. You can do things holy men go lifetimes trying to accomplish as a side effect of your occult biology; you cannot even see what a wonder you are. Your arms, legs, torso, head, they should all be rejecting each other, you never should have gotten up off the table you were stitched on, but you did. Your existence is miraculous, but not without... undesirable side effects, I'll grant you that." He shakes his head, lowering it a bit a chuckling "The Great Work. Do you even begin to comprehend what the New Dawn actually is? What your kind does when they grant themselves a soul? It is unison with the One, the guiding Principle of creation. In that moment you could do anything..." The doctor's eyes are alight with possibility, with an awe approaching holy ecstasy. He is interrupted from his reverie by a knock on the heavy metal door at the end of the small hallway.
"Ah, that would be my new assistant. I requested someone be transferred earlier this evening when I received the news that so many new subjects had been acquired. Hopefully this isn't too much of a shock, we're a little understaffed in the, uh, specialist department, but I've been told he's a brilliant biochemist." He presses a button on a wall intercom and says, in a crisp, friendly tone, "The door is open, come right on in." The thick steel door glides slowly open on greased hinges, and Dr. Roman's lab assistant stands in the doorway, frozen, eyes wide and lips parted ever so slightly in shock. It's a facial expression Adonis remembers fondly on the face looking with confusion at his battered state. Erwin stands slack-jawed at the end of what now feels like a much longer hallway.

Outside the building, Joshua starts on his way towards the conventional entrance, balling up a newspaper in his bare hands, seemingly untouched by the cold. He knocks at the sealed glass doors, and armed security guards move to answer him. But there's something... off about the Named. There's more light around him than there should be. Like it's coming from within. The doors open as a guard steps out to confront him, at which point the paper sparks and bursts into flame. Joshua hurls it into a potted plant near the door, and his body glows with a soft, alluring phosphorescence, he flashes a smile back at the Pilgrims still on the sidewalk, ducks under a guard's grasp, and bolts, the guards following after him with manic determination. The door hangs open. Solomon stands with Mark 5, and Satin takes flight from their perch on Earth's shoulder to fly through the open door. The Scarlet Woman hangs back with Scout, waiting to see what they will do next, watching him with a fascinated gaze.
