So, something I've been lamenting greatly; the absence anywhere I can see, of any really good Exalted music playlists. And usually when I do find a few, they're basically a pick-and-mix bag of songs with wildly different moods and tones, which, being the lazy sort I am, I have to babysit during a game and can't really just sit back and let it run in the background and count on having appropriate music to the scene in progress.

So I got sick of it and made my own.

They're all sorted by mood! This is very much a work in progress kind of project that will likely be constantly expanding as I scour the depths of youtube. So in other words, I'm always looking for songs to add. Just FYI, I try to stay away with songs that have English lyrics, if any at all, since they tend to distract from dialogue between players. I also tend to go for more traditional flavored stuff than straight up modern stuff; a japanese folk song with electric guitar in it? Cool. A straight heavy metal song? That isn't even like, Viking metal? Less cool. I find it tends to distract from the feel of the playlist, and by extension the game.

If you haven't, you might look into the Shadow of the Colossus and Chrono Cross soundtracks and the new Moana soundtrack. I think all of them would give you some useful stuff, especially for Western Games.

Lord yes I did. I started two weeks ago and I haven't stopped since. It's always growing and tends to come in rings basically. I suggest using shuffle on the playlists just so you don't go "Oh, here's the part where he was listening to the Jade Empire Soundtrack for two hours...."

At risk of thread necro - though this thread was recently linked - I do have a musical request, of sorts.

I'm planning a character who will be musically oriented. Starting off, he'll be good. By the end of the Chronicle, he'll be magnificent.

I was hoping to find a set of remixes or evolutions of the same song, each one a bit better, a bit more elaborate, a bit more grand. They'd be his leitmotif when the Scene showcases him.

It's not truly a necro when the playlists are constantly growing. I recommend something that's old enough to have alot of iterations out there. Perhaps a tahou theme.

Wintory uses several leitmotifs in this album in different songs. The specific leitmotif I would suggest to you develops through "The Food of Beasts", "The Old South Distillery", "Who Becomes the Meat?", "The Ivories of Beasts", and "The Victors will Feast".

If I had to put them in order of least to most refined, I'd go with "The Old South Distillery", "The Ivories of Beasts", "The Food of Beasts", "Who Becomes the Meat?" and finally "The Victors will Feast".

Of course, this is all assuming you're okay with early 20th-century Russian waltzy stylings. If you're looking for a different genre, please specify.

I hadn't exactly decided yet what genre. This is pretty early pre-work, yet. I'd had Holst-like thoughts when I came up with the idea.

The character I envision is a Terrestrial genius, in the style of Kes. Except rather than strategy, he has the "useless" knack of music. By his mid-career, he'd be altering mood and morale. By his mature career, touching the hearts of Raksha and Gods. The leitmotif would be the symphony/aria/melody/earworm jingle that he can seemingly never quite finish.

This is a deliberate subversion of my usual habit, which is to put on some cool but unrelated up-tempo fantasy music on random in the background.

Came for the Wong Fei-Hung theme (instrumental, On the General’s Orders, linked version w/lyrics, A Man Should Better Himself) the iconic, hella-stirring, sure-fire karaoke crowd pleaser. Found it on the Stirring Music list, and was in no way disappointed.

I like to let songs inspire me to make characters, or find theme songs from my characters. I have Exalted Spotify playlists, but I break them down-I have a Malfeas playlist and a Yu Shan playlist and a Marukan playlist and so on. I am trying to build my Wyld Wyld West playlist now, but it's slow going, so I would appreciate any so recommendations for music that'd fit as a soundtrack for the Back Alive or Maybe Dead quest.
