  • The Unsung Hero Toys Around with Tools

Hello, some of you may remember me from the Exalted tools I like to make in Google Sheets. My sig has my website where I've housed some of them, but here's a few quick links (Note: all require making a copy for yourself to make work):Anyways, I figured I'd make a thread for myself where I can share stuff occasionally as I toy around with it. I know there are more efficient ways to use Google to do what I'm doing right now. This version is ugly. But it's working, so I'm happy.

Anyways, I'm currently making my GM a Random Dragonblooded NPC creator since I know he doesn't have the time to read the DB book. Here's a breakdown of what it's got:
    • Names are generated in the Dynast fashion of V-C-V-C-V alternating. They can be 5 or 6 letters long and start with either a Vowel or a Constanant. I'm not happy with how they all come out, they probably need a few letter clipped from certain spots. Too many Z's and X's for my taste.
    • It randomly assigns a House, Aspect, profession, preferred fighting style, weapon and armor.
    • It mostly followed character creation rules in picking a primary, secondary, and tertiary attribute spread and assigns dots. I think Secondary stats gets 1 more point than it should out of books, but frankly I don't care.
    • Based on the fighting style, it puts a 5 in an associated offensive ability and then randomizes the rest.
    • Column D in pale yellow is the excellency potential. It always assumes you have a specialty in something because it's DBs, so why not?
    • Pools automatically add up the proper amounts and place the excellency amount in ( ). At the moment, I have not corrected for automatic success adders. They all assume dice. I know this isn't universally true, but I'll get to it.
    • It assumes a single attack style (as my DM prefers) so builds Withering and Decisive pools appropriately.
    • I included Elemental Bolt Attack as an attack style. It lists it as Occult. I am aware it's a Lore charm that uses either Archery or Thrown. I haven't decided if it matters enough to change that, since they're only using 1 style of attacking in this setup. Depends on if my DM will care. So many if-statements...
    • My hope is to include some charms based on Essence, Fighting style, and some random elements. That'll take some more doing but it's next on my list.
Anyways, make a copy for yourself and play with it. There's a shit-ton of ugly hidden sheets that do most of the work. I wouldn't normally share work-in-progress stuff like this, but I guess I'm feeling masochistic today. Anyways, enjoy. Feedback welcome, but I make no promises about making suggested changes.

While trying to figure out how to compress charms my mind wandered to a new tool.

Everyone in my group loved the Charm Cards they put out for the Solar book. The only things they were lacking were 1) the ability to expand them (with Martial Arts, Evocations, etc), 2) a condensed and easier to read language (much of it was cut out of the book and would run on too long to read).

So I decided to create my own. Now I can't write up every charm in the book with all the details and share it with everybody. I'm CERTAIN that breaks some rules somewhere. But I've made the tool formatted so that you can do it yourself.

    Charm Cards

Make a copy and try it out. Fill out charm information on the Charms List tab. If you need a new category (beyond Ability list or Evocation) add it to the Model tab. On the Charm Cards tab, pick an ability at the top. This sets the charm options for the entire page. For multiple abilities, you'll have to make Duplicates of that tab or change the ability after printing them off.

Let me know if you notice any bugs. It should account for everything aside from running out of room (shrink font on particularly long charm names is the best I can suggest). Sorry I can't give you guys a completed list, but y'know, laws 'n stuff.

So Google Sheets went through an update lately. One of the cool things it added were checkboxes. So I threw them in to my Combat Tracker to eliminate the whole "type x" thing for people's turns. I think it works.

Make a copy for yourself and try it. (I've also added language to remind people that deleting row 1 with all the instructions is totally fine, won't break anything, and definitely makes the rest of the tool easier to read and use once you know how)

      Combat Tracker (Now with Checkboxes)

If people like this version better, I'll get the original link updated in the Useful Links sticky and elsewhere.

Started playing with Scripts yesterday. Combat Tracker with Checkboxes now has a round reset button. Clicking it will auto-reset everyone's turn completion and start a new round! Try it out!

Cleaned up the code in my Random Stuff generator. Works the same but should load faster. Learning not to make so many Queries, they really bog down the whole setup.
