  • Exalted Episodes on New RPG Podcast (and cool character art!)

    Hello,

I recently launched an RPG Podcast called The Story Told. Our first 3 episodes are focused on Exalted, and we intend to return to Exalted in the future. You can find the first two episodes on our Libsyn page or through many of the major podcast apps: http://thestorytold.libsyn.com/

Our first episode is an overview of Exalted. Our third episode will be a review of Arms of the Chosen.

For our second episode, we went through an example of Exalted character creation. We hired an artist to do character art for the episode:
Our artist is Noah Hirka. You can find more of his work at the following links:
We'd love any feedback you have for us.

We've posted our 3rd episode about Exalted, which is a review of Arms of the Chosen: http://thestorytold.libsyn.com/episo...-chosen-review

This is our final Exalted episode for now, so I won't be posting future episodes here until we return to Creation.

If we were to do another Exalted episode, what topic would you like us to cover?

Seconding WFHW, if you all have access.

Also just want to compliment your art. That was one piece in the book that I wish had received an official art piece, and your might as well be it. Very evocative, and I am actually using it for referenc in a game of mine where Sozen has come up.

I'll pass that along to our artist! Thank you!

We're definitely planning to cover WFHW. We do both have access but I was planning to wait until at least the final PDF version was available so we could talk about the art as part of our episode review. That'll also give us time to play with the book some. I have a monthly Exalted game (see the link in my signature if you want the narrative write ups) and we're coming to the end of a season in the game. We're going to play DBs after that for a bit, so we'll have a chance to get some experience and provide a more complete episode.

Based on our current recording schedule, that probably lines up with an early October episode. We have 4-5 episodes about C20 coming up next, then an episode on Scion Origin. That might line up nicely with the backer PDF release of WFHW. We'll be sure to post here when it airs.

Are there any particular topics related to WFHW that you'd like to hear about?

Might be a bit of a long shot, but how about some comparison between Exalted and other popular fantasy settings? In terms of game mechanics, yes, but also themes, characters and their relationship to the story, and some ideas on relating story and crunch?

I like the idea, what other settings would you recommend we compare it to?

I suspect that comparisons to Good-ol'-D-n-D have been done to death.

So, what about comparing to L5R (for the Asian influence) , or Chronicles of Darkness (because of who writes it) , or some anime games (because Exalted is anime, right?)

It seems that some games like creating a class/level framework for you. I was reading up on some of the story paths that Pathfinder was doing - in fact, mined a few for ideas. Exalted is pretty different in how it approaches story construction and character progression.

Noted and filed away for a future episode idea. Thank you!

Waiting for the final PDF actually sounds like a good idea now that you mention it.

Also now that you mention it I am very interested in what you all make of Scion Origin.

I'll think about other topics and get back to you.
