  • First Age and Primordial War characters?

Out of named Exalted characters, which ones fought in the Primordial War? I only know of Brigid, Queen Merela, Aofe Golden Blade, Bright Shattered Ice, Ogri Sky-Traveller, and Rakan Thulio.

She/Her. I am literal-minded and write literally. If I don't say something explicitly, please never assume I implied it. The only exception is if I try to make a joke.
My point of view may be different from yours but is equally valid.

The first incarnation of Contentious Sword did, though there were other Contentious Swords after her (the one in dreams of the First Age bears her name but is not the original).
Edit: Though she died before the war ended so I don't know if that counts as making it to the First Age

Right, I think that was Aofe though I can't be sure.

I guess anyone who died before the War ended counts, too.

I have this head canon that Primordial War Veterans aren't all there. The polite way to refer to them is...odd. They lived in the time period before She Who Lives in Her Name detonated her orbs, so there are things and concepts that were important in their lives that simply don't exist anymore.

        I write things.

My headcanon is that a lot of them had major PTSD from the nightmarish horrors of that war. Human wars are horrific enough without sanity-blasting mental attacks, Primordials, temporal weapons, and reality distortions. So multiply the trauma by 10.

Which, I think, led to Thrice-Damned Gorol's decisions. Gorol is another of the characters from the Primordial War.

              Definitely lots of PTSD.

In my "Our world was before Exalted World" head canon, I had a Primordial War veteran who is obsessed with the Light on Ball experiment. She knows that it had something to do with the changing of the seasons and couldn't remember what the connection between the two was.

Second Edition elaboration of Desus took part.

Unless he didn't, and just convinced everyone he did.

The things (thing? Did he do more than blind that one behemoth (might not have been a behemoth but something different?)?) he did make him look like a dick, so I guess they were legit.

Also, the thing whose eye he poked out still remembers him and still hates him.

Hah, I was mostly being facetious. Jumping on the "choo-choo, Desus was such a dick" train.

Saibok Gauto fought in the Primordial War as a low ranking officer.

There's a whole mess of things behind the transition of Desus from "Oddyssesus reference occupying the role of vengeful Solar who tragically blinded a Polyphemus reference" to "abusive husband and all around cruel jerk with a tendency to convince himself and everyone else that any action he takes is righteous and justified", even before considering the exaggerations that came out of forum echo-chambering (although I'd say those weren't exactly helped by some poor word choices, like a Charm saying that Desus could get away with beating an orphan to death in front of people). I have to imagine that at some point the whole "Desus is a dick" thing retained momentum because of posters who saw a kind of perverse game in coming up with the worst thing he could do, and eventually forgot that it wasn't really in the books so much.

I get that, but given that he was a highly powerful Solar specialising in social manipulation, it really was something that would make sense...

...if his most glorious action in the war hadn't been "Breaking Parley and poking some being's sole eye out in a surprise attack, then running away." Sure, said eye was a crystal lens probably about as tall as he was, but he was still being a dick.

Said behemoth was helping the Primordials; Desus was there in the first place to get him to not help the Primordials, and negotiation wasn't getting him anywhere.

Was it a jerk move? Yeah, maybe. But were I in his position, I might make the same choice myself.
