Consider me a tester. I'll get it set up on my PC at home to run my live game and also adjudicate my for funzies tournament so there will be a lot of testing done over the next few weeks.

I'll let you know in here if I run into any issues.

Wasn't Anathema an official stretch goal? Or was it just one of those things that they couldn't find anyone who wanted to program it?

The whole of the official support seems to be to get the Anathema developers the rules a bit before official release so they can have a headstart.

Thats what I understand from the subject.

Well, we last heard from Urskr on the present state of Anathema only about 2 months ago, and the code is actually public on github for anyone who wants to take the pre-existing codebase and work on it

So, I'm not convinced that Anathema is quite dead yet...but it would be nice to see more options pop up.

This is true. The money from KS was to hire a "go-between" for passing along rules while it was in development. Now that the game is "out" I don't know what official support is needed. All the rules are there for the extracting.

I post Artifacts in this thread. How I make them is in this thread.
I have made many tools and other things for 3rd Edition. I now host all of my creations on my Google site: The Vault of the Unsung Hero

I mean, if Anathema had been released soon after the official release (actually it is still "soon after", so hope springs eternal), there would be a great deal more rejoicing. But Urskr seems to be quite busy at the moment, and if some talented fans want to get Anathema into my hands quicker with the official rules, I say all the blessings of the Unconquered Sun to them.

Hey, if you need a java dev to help, I'm available to help. Unit testing, you say?

Did you include this pull request in the code you built from? https://github.com/anathema/anathema_3e/pull/1

I'll talk to Kenai and see if we can do anything. No promises though, neither of us are very familiar with Mac.

I suppose the cat's out of the bag, actually...

To be entirely honest, we didn't actually use any of Urskr's code. This version of Anathema is actually entirely coded by Kenai using his stuff, or google library code.

Basically, Urs' code uses a very different paradigm than what Kenai uses, which is also why Kenai is of the opinion that it's what slowed down development of the original Anathema. We began coding this version of Anathema less than 3 months ago. He's been working on it in earnest for slightly more than 5 weeks.

I don't have a Mac for testing, but as far as I know you should just be able to run it (assuming that you have Java 8 or newer installed).

That basically sums up why I'm doing this. We need Anathema for our Friday game, and I have some massive issues with the GNU GPL... so I'm making a new version. If anything, I'm hoping that this takes some of the pressure off of Urskr. He's an incredibly important figure in the Exalted community, and I find the thought of his burnout disturbing (from a human interest point of view).

If at first you don't succeed, refactor!

If you still can't get it working, pm me. Once we get a fix going I'll make it an official part of the project.

Oh yes I am familiar with Urs' codebase, and if you are writing a new system I don't think there is any problem with starting over.

(This isn't intended as snark, Anathema is just like any other long-running software project.)
