  • Lunars Kickstarter Interview with Eric Minton

I had the pleasure of interviewing Eric Minton a couple weeks ago in preparation for the Lunar KS. We published the interview today and you can find it here: http://thestorytold.libsyn.com/bonus...th-eric-minton

Ah man... Americans pronounce Lunars very different to Brits. And Chimera. Which is unsurprising, but weird to hear.

      But it's a good interview.

It was interesting to hear a little bit about the dominions. Looking forward to those!
(That's the part of the fluff I'm most interested in. NPCs I wasn't that bothered by, but the locations in the Core I really like, so I'm excited about the Dominions.)

To be fair, not all Americans pronounce it as the interviewer did. I say it more like Luners, with less of an A emphasis. But I've met others who emphasize the A. Those people tend to do the same with Solars as well.

I'm glad you guys liked it! We might be able to get Eric back on for another interview when we finally get around to our Dragon-Blooded book review. If the timing works out, I'll elicit questions from the forum here (thought the devs to a great job answering question here already!)

Nah, it's the "r"s. English and Welsh people lost the rhotic r a long time ago, most (but not all) Americans kept it (which... actually means it's more realistic to have American actors play medieval English people than English people. Which is weird), as did the Scots and Irish.
We say /səʊlə/ and /lu:nə/, that interviewer pronounced it /lu:nɑ:r/.

You and your fancy edumacated words are too much for this Yank. (I'm afraid I'm not much of a linguist so I'm struggling to parse your descriptions of the difference. Definitely my failing though)

It's fine, this is literally my job, I probably wouldn't understand the jargon of your job.

We pronounce the suffixes -er, -ar, and -or as /ə/, which is the sound you make when you say a (as in the word a, like a man, a bee, a horse, etc, but not a like man or pan or band).
                  Teach-a
                  Doct-a
                  Lawy-a
                  Sol-a
                  Lun-a

Which means we pronounce Lunar almost identically to Luna.

This is probably quite a tangent...

So, the dominions. I caught that there's one called the Empire of the Bear, which is quite imperialistic. Hmmm... sounds Northern to me, or maybe North-Eastern.

Did anyone catch the others? I didn't quite catch them, as it was right near the end (don't have time to go back and listen again, I'm about to head off, I'll do it later if I have time).

You and your Home Counties cultural imperalism again. In the West Country, we still use rhotic r. It's just northerners who don't speak proper.

The easiest way i’ve found to show the difference between Southern English and Urban Midwest (ie Hollywood generic) American accents is with “water”.

                        Southern English: Wata

“Generic” American: Wadder. (Americans don’t think about it, but to other people’s ears we really don’t differentiate “t” and “d” sounds well at all)

                          Wata?
What kind of posh toff pronounces the t?
                          It's wa'a. As in "Gimme a bo'ul of wa'a".

I'm so happy with the direction this thread has gone, even if it's off-topic.

But seriously, good Interview. Please interview these guys again in the future!

Eric says "It's a massive Charms chapter; we're still trying to figure out what to cut." (emphasis mine)

So, I'm guessing the extra Charms we paid for in Strangers are already written, and otherwise we might not have gotten them.
