  • Which Ability to put these Sidereal Charms?

    Yes, yes. I know Sidereals have a closed charm set, but since the Ex3 Sidereal book is a long time coming, I'm going to brainstorm some charms. I got a few charms in mind, but having trouble figuring out which ability to put them. With the Sidereal Charm set, the first ability that comes to mind isn't really the right answer.

    Atmospheric Analysis Deliberation

    This feels like a Secrets Charm, but the Serenity abilities seem to fit best. Linguistics? Socialize? Lore? Survival due to the "talking about the weather" aspect?

    Sometimes a Sidereal need to relay information to an individual without the rest of listeners knowing. The Sidereal must initiate physical contact, like a hug or a handshake, to activate the charm on an individual. Then the Sidereal can start discussion about an innocuous topic, like the weather or gardening. The target of the charm will understand the Sidereal’s words as a metaphor for a topic of the Sidereal’s choice.


    Alternate Destiny Accommodation

    Should probably be a Journey’s ability, but this charm fits none of their Ex2 abilities. Occult? Bureaucracy?

    It is not easy for even a Sidereal to be in two places at once. This charm allows a Sidereal to loan one of her inactive Resplendent Destinies to another Sidereal. The Sidereal with the loaned destiny can don the destiny as usual, but is unable to use any of its resplendency powers. (may add something about increase paradox, but who knows what is going to happen with paradox in Ex3?)

      This Charm creates a bond between two people which facilitates their capacity to communicate with each other, which fits both the themes of the Linguistics Ability and its corresponding Scripture. Easy call. You can set its minimums below whatever the required Linguistics for all Sidereals is, so that Chosen of Secrets can get easy access to it.

      Alternate Destiny Accommodation
      Ride, although it would probably need to impose some sort of control or restraint on the recipient to make thematic sense

        Hmmm... Maybe add something to the charm limiting the destiny's use to a interacting with a single individual or group of individuals.

          I agree, AAD is a perfect fit for Linguistics. ADA feels like it could slot in with Gift of a Broken Mask, maybe?

            I've been reading though the Maiden Scriptures and now I am reconsidering what ability this charm matches. The Scripture of the Savory Maiden (Larceny) seems to fit better since it talks about serving the world. I also doubt the Sidereal acquired the location, supplies, and resources to start the business via legal means.

            Pho Cart Methodology
            Cost: 5 Motes, 1 WP; Mins: Bureaucracy 3, Essence 2; Type: Simple
            Keywords: None
            Duration: Seven Days
            Prerequisite Charms: None
            The Sidereal can set up a small established business in a town. This Business will neither make or lose money. Residents will patron the business as if it was always there. At the end of the charm's duration, the business will vanish and the town's inhabitants will not remember its existence.

            Essence 4+: The duration of the business is extended to the end of the current story line.

              What is it for? Does the Sidereal get Resources out of it if it doesn't make any money? Or is it just to serve as a handy listening post? Either way, I think Bureaucracy is an okay fit, but Stealth could work too, as an extension off Gift of a Broken Mask. Do the noodles really exist if they shop you bought them from was never actually there? If so, why am I still full?

                It's a way for Sidereal to create a popup version of a "convenient" teahouse for the party to meet up in. Or be that wise noodle seller who happened to hear some information to pass along. A Sidereal might not have the time to put the effort into maintaining the business, so they fudge things with fate to create a temporary one. Basically this charm is a way to flesh out a short term Resplendent Destiny a bit more.

                I made it profit loss even out to minimize the impact on Fate. It doesn't have to be a Pho Cart, it can be any business.

                  The first charm listed sounds like lingusitics. It's making a bond and deals with communication. The second feels like larceny to me, as it mostly deals with shuffling of abstract things. The third is weird, since it does very little. Generalize it a bit to people forgetting something you've set up (or said or done even) and it'd start to fit into Dodge or maybe Stealth.

                    The Pho Cart Methodology is less the forgetting the business afterwards and more the quick set up of an established business. Through use of this charm, Fate will arrange for the Business to have patrons and maybe? employees. If someone asks about the business, a local will be able to tell that person about it. No need to advertise or fiddle around with paperwork or hire vendors for supplies. It's basically the Respledent Destiny version of a business. Yes, a Sidereal can spend some time actually doing the footwork to create a business, but that takes time to setup and build a reputation. Sidereals don't have Speed the Wheels or anything. So this charm allows them spend some motes and willpower and bam! - they have a business.

                    Probably should edit the charm to make that clear or add "develop a business plan on a prayer scroll" to the charm.

                      In hindsight, I am wondering if Pho Cart Methodology is like Clear Water Prana. It saves the character time, but from the player perspective, there is no time difference between the charm and a Bureaucracy roll.

                        Well it really depends the intent of what you want pho cart to do. How much supernatural stuff comes into play more specifically, if someone investigates your faux business is it obvious or does a roll-off need to occur? Do you want a legitimate paper trail through a resplendent destiny reinforcing both authenticities or is this more of a paper tiger thing but dirt cheap and more importantly spammable?

                          My idea situation is this:

                          Solar: I look around. Does this business look legit? *rolls dice*
                          ST: This business is totally legit.
                          Solar: What about that wet paint?
                          ST: *shrugs* They remodeled recently.

                          The business probably should be connected to a RD, so it can take advantage of the -3 dice modifier. Either way, I need to do a lot more thinking about that charm.

                              Hmm, if it's more about the business, then you can easily just drop it in Bureaucracy. Every sideral ability supports having "generic" fate-meddling charms that otherwise don't fit that ability's specific theme. You can find examples of that all over the place in their charmset.
