[2E] New Gods ( like from 'American Gods' of Gaiman )

So in 'American Gods' universe there are Old Gods - i.e. Scion classical Pantheons - and New Gods - personifications of modern concepts like Mass Media, Globalization and Technology. Here is list based on characters from Gaiman novel.

I'd like to use Pantheon based on those concepts in Scion games, to put more emphasis in setting that belief is making Myths, and those Reality. Goal is simple - to make 2E Scion Pantheon of New Gods. Those listed in novel are only reference points - if you have good concepts for New Gods, we can reflect anything that is 'not canon'. Idea is much more wider than characters from Gaiman books.

EDIT: To sum up concept and answers - Yes, I know there is difference in cosmologies between Scion and 'American Gods'. No, I do not want New Gods Pantheon to be related to any previous Pantheon - they should be creation of humanity from times of Age of Enlightment and next rolling on. Yes, maybe making it Pantheons of only wholly new Titans only is a way to go with it in Scion terms.

Now in New Gods / Modern Titans Pantheon are those beings:

• Conspiracy – Incarnations: Tin Foil Man ( see Alex Jones and put a Tin Foil on him )
• Equality
• Globalization – Incarnations: Mr. World?
• Liberty
• Media – Incarnations: Talking Heads ( shows in pair or triple characters in suits at once ), Icons ( Marilyn Monroe, Ziggy Stardust, Lucy Ricardo, etc.), New Media ( kawaii Insta/FB/Google conglomerate )
• Money – Incarnations: All Mighty Dolar?
• Nationalism
• Privilege
• Technology – Incarnations: Necessity (‘The Mother of Invention’), Lady Science ( from 18^th & 19^th century ), Factory Worker, TechnoBoy

These sound more like new titans. Maybe you should decide where the grandparents of your gods come from. Media could have been a Scion of Hermes, Ganesh, or Elegba. Maybe Money is just a new name for Plutus the Roman god of Wealth. Conspiracy could be a titanspawn that has decided the Gods are a better bet.

Anyway, sort that out.

By the way, Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam should be in the mix too. There are still Americans that believe that America and democracy are worthwhile. Gaiman certainly never figured that out.

Further thought suggests that some Native American deities might join up either for survival or to get their people a better deal.

The way the Gods shows up in existence in American Gods is quite different from the way Scion set as the true.
The gods in American Gods just came to be with memories and all when the people believe in them... the more people believe they are important, more worshipping, more power they have.

I would make the process of recovering Legend related to sacrifice and worshipping ONLY... worshipping means people giving value to what they represent.
While an old god would gain legend by being worshiped, having people dedicating things to them, things like that... Easter (godess) gets some legend because Easter (holiday) is celebrated and they have a far connection (so some legend drops to her once in a while).
A new god gets legend from the people giving value to what they are, so Media gains Legend because people spend much time watching TV, and Techboy gains from the people needing Internet for everything...

I’ve got an ongoing project to make an American Gods homage Shard. As Mateus notes it requires substantial cosmological differences from the World.

It’s a homage Shard though, not a direct emulation, so Novus Ordo Seclorum’s lineup is a bit different from Gaiman’s.

Somehow I suspect that Liberty would be such a pantheon's version of Set or Loki: Seen as useful once upon a time, but now despised and vilified at every turn.

Cannot New Gods simply be... new? Like in previous Pantheons everyone is related, but those Gods ( or rather Titans ) are explicit not related to rest of Gods. They 'alien' to normal Scion Pantheons. They simply were created by humanity now, as philosophical constructs, based on science ( or rather population idea of 'science' - 'How my computer works? It's SCIENCE!' ).

Figuring out how to do a general representation of Nationalism for my own modernity deities was definitely a headscratcher! Eventually I leaned heavily on Nietzsche and his concept of the New Idol.

I am not one of those expert guys, I didn’t watched the TV show, but read the book a few years back. But I don’t think texknology is a proper god. There are several gods related to technology, I can remember references to a God of Traijs and Rail Roads, somekind of god for airplanes and other for cars. Techno boy is basically computers, Media is mostly TV, there are the Mr Wood that is a god of the woods that turn into god of woodcraft (prety old tech).

I would say many old gods absorbed new functions too, like Loki and Mr World (if it fallows the original script), and some old goddess of love and fertility must have got the mantle of Goddess of Porn... it would be fun...

Well, until at least the 1830s every time Ben Franklin's name was mentioned in the US Senate, it was hissed. Jefferson Davis hared both the Liberty Cap ( the symbol of a manumitted slave) and Lady Liberty ( also associated with freeing slaves and the rights of the poor in Roman society). Tom Paine, who Washington praised by calling the US revolution "Painite," was seen as an obcenity for decades. So, yes, Liberty might be loathed by the gods and elites and loved by the people.

I maybe old-fashion, but I think that Goddess of Porn would be Aphrodite-Venus. It's popular concept in now popculture - and even in original myths she embodies whole 'sex is really divine and fantastical' on what porn industry is build. Scion Aphrodite-Venus as Super Porn Star sounds dope! ❤️

Necessity, The Mother of Invention (which may be too positive for this group, as it's the name of one of my M&M superhero characters).

As for Venus as the new god of Free Love/Sexual Revolution/Pornographity/Lewdness/Raunch Culture (some of whom may be her modern attendants), there is apparently evidence that she is the Mesopotamic Ishtar/Astarte imported into Greece, so she has a history of being a survivor and adapter.

Power/Privilege might also be part of the pantheon.

And Media's name/incarnation might be Talking Head. (Max Headroom was sort of inspired by the term, and Don Henley's song "Dirty Laundry" was probably one of the best descriptions of tv anchors ever.)

One of the pretexts though of a Pantheon of modernity is that the “Old Gods” have NOT kept up and adapted their worship and domains into the modern world. Hence why I think the Pantheon best lives in a Shard distinct from the setting of the World where prayers for better WiFi signals get made to Hermes and Escuela Elegba on a daily basis.

Like Mateus Luz pointed - even in Gaiman's novel, Loki and Mr. World had been modernized, cause they really wanted. In TV series, Bilquis is using dating app to gather worshipers and sacrifices. Also, Mr. Wood is example of Old God forsaking his posts to join New Gods Pantheon.

Main idea for Modern Titans Panteon is NOT that Old Gods could not modernized - rather that in Age of Enlightment, humans IMAGINED New Gods as more important to their lives. ( And, connected to it, in last 2-3 thousand years troed to 'reform' Old Gods by worshiping One God - but it's not excplicit.)
