  • Scion Dragon & Masks of Mythos Kickstarter

2021 we'll start with a double Kickstarter for Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos!
I just can’t wait for it! ( From Monday Meeting Notes: )
‘We’re starting 2021 with a bit of a different kind of KS in that it’s a double-feature of Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos! We haven’t really done a double KS like this as both books are expansions on the Scion concept but they take it in different directions, rather than a book and then another book that builds on the first. Expect that as early in January 2021 as we can after the holiday season!‘

I am wondering about how much is it going to be the price of the PDFs. I mean, each of them is a full book that is probably cost 15-20ish dollars just the PDFs when released, so my guess is for 30-40 bucks, what is more than I put on the other Scion KSs and may leave my wallet short for the Adventure KS.

Anyway, I am in for it and really enjoying the idea of getting multiple books from the same KS again (just to notice that I am not counting on the Stretch goals books, they are awesome but I think them as gifts from OPP, like Santa, but dressing in black and carrying books instead of toys)

Look, this is an important thing to also remember. It occurred to me that this could be their test bed on how well Kickstarters go when ran concurrently, especially with their new production methods (Having the final draft ready to go...getting weekly feedback...commissioning the art prior to the KS). If we back it well enough, then it may get OPP to start doing multiple concurrent KS so that we, the loyal fanbase, can get their awesome products in our grubby little hungry-for-more mitts on it.

With that being said I, for one, cannot wait to pump all I can afford into the Kickstarters so that we can show OPP they can do more of them.

From what Rich's said, it sounds more like a dual-book Kickstarter, like with the Trinity Continuum core and Aeon - or at least, he's not been talking about this as dual Kickstarters.

That’s the impression I got too.

Dev team corrected that you could support two books - or just one in it. 'Next, we’ll be running a dual Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos KS as early in January as we can make happen! The KS will indeed be set up so that you can pledge for both at once or either separately, as some folks have already asked.' Source at MMM

Kickstarter for isn't starting this week - but we've got this great art for a taste from Masks of the Mythos.

Today's Pathcast is about the Scion: Dragon book. From around 20:00 of podcast, developers start talking about this in Scion. What we know about Scion Dragon:

Scion: Dragon is a spy game where the Heirs of dragons act for their rulers hiding from the Pantheons. However, the Heirs can also easily join the normal group of Scions. And Hiers especially MUST create their own Fate.

                        • Dragons represent the forgotten truths of The World, pushed out by the Gods of the setting. They are hiding from the Pantheons - and at the same time they are trying to regain power over the world, because the Gods took their followers from them centuries ago.

                        • Dragons are divided into Flights which are divided into HOW the lizards want to regain control of the world. Flights are very politically divided. Sometimes they support the Gods, sometimes the Titans - and often they just play for themselves. They can be both allies and antagonists of ordinary Scions. Some Dragons can be both the secret lizards in their community - and Gods in the normal Pantheons! 😮 Hiers may not even know who their ancestors are for most of the game! 😮

                        • There are 5-6 Dragons for each Flight - Sample Dragons from the expansion (but there are many more): Tiamat, Fafnir, Leviathan, Apep, Amut, Jormangander, Níðhöggr, Ryūjin, Suki (from Naga) and others ...

                        • You will be able to turn into your dragon! It will be based on the Inheritance statistics. It is assumed to be HUGE dragons then. (But you can take Knack specially to be small.)

                        • There is a specific Feats of Scale mechanic for Heirs. 😉

                        • Memory – Dragons remember everything, every World timeline, every change, and all dragons are connected to their species memories, like shared lower mind. Heirs explore draconic memories from time to time. Instead of Fate Binding, Heirs have new memories related to other things and people. Heirs can even have ‘secret commands’ from their dragons, this way.

Scion: Dragon needs only Scion: Origin, do not need Scion: Hero book for this. 😉

Well, this is unexpected. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but this wasn't it.

I dig it. It's like the WoD game that never was (Snakemen: the Reclamation?), combined with a different take than modern myth. Dragons are both the scheming, prehuman tyrants of the world before the Gods, the victims of divine colonialism trying to get their lives back, and everything in between - and their Heirs are even more varied.

If there is an option to get Dragon but not Masks, I'm for sure going for that one. I feel like the mythos are a thematic mismatch for what Scion is going for.
"Oh no, my gods are either indifferent towards me or actively want to eat me!"
"Sounds rough, buddy. Anyway, check out how well my crops are growing! Thor must me fucking stoked woth me, you have NO idea."
