I don't particularly like Shadowrun either but the way they fit dragons into the world is one of the few things they do that are actually kind of neat. I would almost consider doing something similar to that for Scion myself.

Edit: Also, Shadowrun has a dragon mafia, doesn’t it? Totally fits in the idea of Dragon as a bunch of big bullies, some with magical powers, some with brute force.

I'm sure I can find a happy place somewhere between D&D and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. Just rewatched Miss Kobayashi and was surprised how well it works.

You just found out my idea on the games Antagonists of chronicle. 😎

Yeah, most of the restrictions seem to be there so, as promised, Scion: Dragon doesn't totally upend everything as presented in the main Scion book. (The Mythos book seems to have a similar restriction.)

But even then, there's also absolutely nothing stopping you from disregarding this and rapidly investing your XP into Draconic transformation knacks to just Literally Be A Dragon. A small two-person game I'm participating in to test the manuscript has my Heir as a gang boss who has been accumulating followers thanks to Brutal Might + Massive Beast Shape and using Pack Alpha after utterly laying waste to whatever leaders the rival gang used to have. She is not very subtle, although so far I've had her still tend to act from the shadows and only hulk out against either unreliable witnesses or people she intends to sway in any case, so the rumors spread and the idea that "the leader of this bunch is, like, ten meters tall and crushed an SUV like a soda can!" can be safely dismissed by the public as exaggeration and hearsay.

Dragon have this two aspects, one is the setting description, where you can’t relieve your power to avoid became the target of the fatebenders, in the other side you have, well, dragons, and they are quite powerful. If you kick the setting part out, the Heirs are pretty much Heroic, in the traditional sense of the word.

You could play Concil Of Wyrms (check link below) style of game easily. Yes you start at human form, what would be limiting, but once you become a lesser Wyrm you are good to go. Even more if you put the gods a bit more distant, and have only to deal with demigods and heroes.

Council Of Wyrms (2e) - Feel mighty muscles ripple beneath your armored flesh. Hear the wind rush by with each powerful flap of your scaled wing

Contrast with a Scion where it was fairly trivial to make the monkey-girl Scion of Sun Wukong who grew up on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit learning the three M's, Mischief, Magic, and Martial arts. Then was sent to a human high school because the Monkey King watched one to many animes and thought that human high schools would be and exciting place for his daughter.

I, uh, I really want to watch that anime...

The first concept I came up with before really reading the manuscript was to play one of the daughters of Ao Guang, Azure Dragon King of the Eastern Sea. She ran off with some charming Scion to go clubbing in Hong Kong and is now out exploring a world far more exciting that a boring undersea palace.

That concept is damn near explicitly explicitly not allowed. Right off in paths, Terra Incognitae is called out as an origin that can't be used. All of them assume you're playing a human with almost no connection to dragons. Then the deeds come up and the only reasonable mission an overly protective daddy dragon could have for his runaway daughter is "come home and be a good girl." That of course blocks advancement.

Maybe I just haven't read Dragons closely enough.

Yeah the rules are kinda restrictiv which is why its always good to keep in mind that rules in PNP are more like guidelines. If you and your table think its more fun to play Scion: Dragon as a spin off of American Dragon go for it,

But to be honest it fits the setting. The Dragons are not the Big Players in the world of scion at the moment. As such keeping to the sidelines is their best option. Also it reminds me of those Higher Dragons from some old D&D games who were more like Giant Lizard wizards then mere beasts.

Also: The thought of the Monkey King sending a daughter of his to Highschool because he saw a dozen animes and now thinks High school is a fighting arena/dating simulator really made my day a bit better^^

Partially its because Dragon is the more traditional "urban fantasy" option of play (hence playing much more loosely with actual myth), and thus has a pseudo-Masquerade. From a mechanics standpoint, its somewhat necessary as written because "this would reveal you if you're reckless with it" is a balancing factor on some of their powers. If that isn't a problem they become notably more powerful.

I'm with you on the Terra Incognitae issue. I should be able to play a daughter of Ryujin who grew up in his palace.
