Scion Dragon & Masks of Mythos Kickstarter

So. I don't want this thread to be mired in debate about Dragon forever, so what ideas do you have from the book previews you see?

There's something I stole from RPGnet's version of this thread, a campaign world where the only Gods are the Mythos, but Dragons are still there. I had an idea that this would result in a world like the SCP Foundation, since human religions end up tapping into Fate so that the normal, wild power of the Mythos becomes things that are more distinctly akin to what you'd find in myth. And really, if a human becomes a God - does it really matter if they are Thor Odinson or Thor Dagonchild if it's still a friendly, boisterous Warrior of Thunder who fights Jormungandr?

I also had a lovely idea for a writeup for Atlach-Nacha, though it's a bit late for that right now; I'm leaning really hard into the idea that the Spinner in Darkness' ultimate goal is to weave a permanent passage between the Dreamlands and physical world, and make her the Goddess of Imagination and Architecture; her instinctive desire to build a passage to the Dreamlands is simply the ultimate expression of her real impulse to make all that is imagined real. She doesn't care how nice those imagined things are, but her cult tends to be composed of idealists and big dreamers - along with schemers, because she is still a spider.

It seems to me that there is no "right way" to play Scion, and if you dislike a supplement, don't support it. Myself, I'm open to all of the new ideas presented. I might not use them all, but they make for interesting reading.

Demigod still takes a theistic approach to the changing of the past, because in mythology what the past was really like wasn’t important, what mattered was what the meaning of the past events is, how they relate to modern circumstances and problems that modern worshipers go through. Also it should be noted that Demigod says they outright retroactively change history, like evidence changes so that Athena was indeed always a god, and Gods being entities unbound by time and space are still capable of retroactively acting their creation myths so it isn’t really disrespectful, at least not as much as “actually those gods that real life people worship and are oppressed at places for worshipping them? They’re actually oppressors of the real marginalized people”. Also why is Dragon being a supplement an excuse for it to not be as respectful or to have the same qualities that make Scion 2e unique as the rest of the line?

Scion Dragon is pointed as supplement book, not the mainline product. Also, points of this logics were found in Demigod that is main product - which should worry you more.

I think it should be pointed in Feedback form that first name of Heracles in Lindwurms description to be 'Heracles, known as Vahagn in Armenia...'

But the gods are connected to the universe itself and not just humanity. The Trimurti are the universe. Odin carved the world from the body of Ymir before humanity existed. Zeus IS all weather. Etc etc. Unless those religions are wrong - which was not the pitch of Scion.

The point is, the gods changed the past with their legends, that’s stated in the book, mainly in demigod, where one of the Heroes notice that when her friend becomes a goddess, people already knew her as a goddess and worshiped her before her apotheosis.

The fact the gods change the past with their legends open a gap in the explaining: Was there a universe before the first god legend? And if yes, how was the past before the gods changed it? That’s where the dragons are, their myth is that the gods are liked to humanity and not the universe.

I agree almost with everything by Mateus. Both Dragon and Mask of Mythos are expending Scion gameline about elements I really like. And 'dragons as repressed minority, taken by Fate-bending Gods propaganda' is appealing to me as 'alien threat' to Scion gameline at large - but still in frames of mythical RPG. Where Masks are totally different take on the line and 'outside of box' problem.

To each their own. Dragons are supposed to come off as alien to the pantheons, something that is partly their own mythology, partly not. So, urban fantasy it is, and it was always going to be a minigame within Scion. As an alternate setting focused on secrets and self-identity, one that points out how weird the World of Scion is and embraces the weirdness as signs of something deeper? Fine by me.

Mostly, I'm amazed at how I've been wowed by both books; both have bunches of character ideas that are unique to each gameline opened up.
