  • C20 Problems with Inanimae

Ok, so for the most part I'm very very happy with the C20 document. Outside lack of Merfolk houses, the only real beef I have is with the Inanimae part. Half the phyla are severely dumbed down from their original form, gaining just free merits instead of the interesting powers. Ondines, in particular, miff me. I know, they had the same ability pretty much as Morganed, but......... Just giving them a free merit? It feels a little rushed. Also, having all their slivers be Unleashed-only when originally they had cantrips is really harsh. It means Inanimae magic is incredibly unreliable and dangerous. Also it contradicts itself in saying all Sliver abilities are chimerical unless taking on the wyrd, but doesn't Unleashing immediately force you to take on their weird? I can understand needing page space, but hsien got, what, 8 pages for their wu tan, and inanimae barely get tw page for their slivers? in fact, their section is TINY compared to hsien and nunnehi.

Don't take this wrong, I do love the book and the updates, but man.... the inanimae section looks like it just got severely rushed.

I'm also not quite understanding the Frailty of Manikins. They are more at home in the Autumn world so.. they take more banality than their fellows?

That Frailty does seem the OPPOSITE of what makes sense, yes. They're all around feeling kind of rough. I am still weighing my feelings on this. I also sort of wonder how House Varich's versions of the Inanimae tie in.

Mention it in the errata thread. It could just be an error.

But of course they do! They turn back into normal mannequins the second that anyone besides their chosen Dreamer looks at them.

(Sorry, I had to. That was one of my favorite movies as a child.)
